  • In Episode two, Part one of Beneath the Surface, we walk the streets of Toronto with Karan Johar before his speech at the Toronto International Film Festival. Fans stop to take selfies with the popular director, but Johar believes that despite all the adulation, very few take him seriously as a filmmaker. He also discusses his unique writing process- "I talk to myself when I’m walking streets. I could come across as a lunatic. I record it on a voice note and have someone transcribe it for me."

    Even after being so trolled or also being so successful , he always remains calm with a sense of humbleness and smartness. He's a man with profound knowledge but he land up in tough places because of the circumstances he tend to carry with him

      That's not true..there are movies like rang de basanti, piku and many more that make money in the box office as well. And I don't watch movies such as soty anyway.

      suvarna swain haha, well every filmmaker is intelligent in a way or the other, some are talented to make great content and package it in a great manner, some don't go for real great content and yet present it well, whereas some lack in either. He is someone who finds balance over last two kinds,tending more towards the last category more often.

    Somebody needs to make a movie about a writer who doesn't write. Who wanders through the streets of India saying random things to a recorder while taking in the scenery around. He falls in love, feels heartbreak, is neglected and ridiculed by the world, and captures a lifetime on sound waves! His ornate recorder: a soul, a muse and a companion throughout, personified into a beautiful being! There could be a backstory; a reason why he doesn't/cannot write and how he gets around having this specific recorder. Ah! would love to watch that!

    Truly an exceptional director who enhances his films through larger than life storytelling, enthralling narratives centered around mature concepts, and the ability to extract spellbinding performances from his cast. Films such as Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil serve as a bold testament to that fact! I hope Karan never stops making movies! It's sad that people don't appreciate his genuine talent. Love you Kjo and Anupama :)

    Karan Johar is suffering from the depression caused for nothing. He's a film maker. He's lonely. He's gay, but can't say it openly because of conservativeness in the society.
    Karan, here is my advice--- if you think your society, friends, siblings, and actors will ever understand you, it's not gonna happen in your life. Stop humiliating yourself and live as you want to live.

    • @sybaritesphynx8057
      @sybaritesphynx8057 7 лет назад +8

      I absolutely agree! He got depressed after his father's demise and he kept being in the closet because of his own decision to stay inside. He comes from an affluent part of Indian society where he had the means to own his homosexuality and be a role model to every gay kid in India and the world.
      But he chose to not come out or be proud of it, even though it was no secret. And that caused his depression to intensify.
      Hope one day, he finally comes to terms with himself and finds the peace and happiness and the respect of the LGBT community of India which desperately needs a mainstream role model.

  • @anon-kl8tm
    @anon-kl8tm 6 лет назад +1

    Karan knows that the audiences have come off their mold of naivete,have evolved way beyond buying his content and making it the "biggest hit of the year",which he has come to terms with. Also that his films aren't really relevant to the once loyal fan-bases that have grown up watching his films,either Indeed no wonder that not making the biggest hit of the year would not bother him anymore, for firstly he wouldn't probably expect anything to be of the films that he makes!
    Having said so, respect for this man for being wonderful on relations and people skills, holds people together and is perhaps the only one that isn't "camp"-bound. A smart man with a tremendous knack for business of films and production.

    I started hating this indifferent attitude of the western world, how busy are they. No laughs, smiles, weird gazes what the heck.

    I really loved the trailer.
    But i don't think this movie should be released right now.
    Being an Indian, I cant stand with Karan Johar when a Jawan on the Hiranagar border got injured while he was saving our lives.
    So this movie has no value when it come to my country, and no amount of money or profit or loss can change that.

      He is no saint either. But i love him and i am sure i will love the movie too if i will see it. Don't wanna go too deep but at time of Peshawar attacks, the same guy had to say alot, but at the time of Uri, No one associated with the film opened their big ass mouths of course, Millions are at stake. We are making efforts to isolate Pakistan here. Yaha peace talk nahi chal rahi hai. At least respect those JAWANS who lost their lives and these lives which were way expensive than Karan Johar's Carrier. So Pitaji "CHUTIYAPA" kise kehte samaj lo, fir kisi ko bolo.... (Also don't expect me to reply to any of the bullshit you are going to write after this )
