INteresting enough, Judith Hoag (April) also did a cameo in another Ninja Turtles film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016).

The reason the Foot Soldiers are robots are in the 1987 cartoon were to avoid having the TMNT -- the "heroes on the half-shell" -- beating up on delinquent children, since the cartoon's aimed at a younger audience than the 1984 comic book & this 1990 movie (which is basically a combination of the source comic book & the kiddie cartoon adaptation). The reason Shredder/Oroko Saki seemingly dies in the first issue comic book (and this movie) was due to the fact that creators Laird & Eastman didn't expect the windfall success this rather silly idea generated, which in turn, spawned the various cartoons, the Playmates toys, spin-off comics or story books based on the cartoons, the other movies, and all of the other kinds of merchandise based out of a simple napkin drawing of a turtle with a headband wielding an ancient ninja weapon.
Of course, by the time the sequel film came out a year later in 1991, The Shredder had certainly been the Turtles' arch nemesis for quite some time, since Eastman & Laird recognized the popularity of not just the four giant turtles, their rat sensei/surrogate father, and their human friends April O'Neil & Casey Jones, but also their growing gallery of villains including The Shredder/Oroko Saki, the inter-dimensional warlord Kraang who resembles a disembodied human brain with a face seeking to regain a physical body even if it's artificially made, brick-dumb mutant henchmen Bebop & Rocksteady/infantile mutant minions Tokka & Rahzar, the evil Ninja Turtle Slash, rat-catching scientist-turned-human-fly Baxter Stockman, the alien despot Lord Dregg from the later "Red Sky" seasons of the 1987 cartoon, etc.

This is a classic movie. I don’t know why it got so much hate. The fight scenes were great, the storyline had depth, and the turtle costumes were Jim Henson greatest work. It was treated like a serious martial arts movie, which I think was the key to it’s success, and the downfall of every other reincarnation since. The only thing that sucked about it was they didn’t continue on with this feel for the second & third movies.

So true it’s like they were just trying to live off of the first film. I feel they should’ve gone with other villains like the rat king or bee bop and rock steady. However I think they had licensing issues I’m not sure .

@@TheReelPrescription I heard somewhere they were suppose to introduce Krang in the second movie. But obviously for whatever reason it didn’t happen.

Really unfortunate . I would’ve love to have seen how they would make him look

@@TheReelPrescription Laird & Eastman didn't like Bebop & Rocksteady, so the comedy relief warthog & rhino were replaced by snapping turtle Tokka & red wolf Rahzar.

@@TherealRNOwwfpooh that’s unfortunate . Those replacement characters were so mid . Bebop and rocksteady were great .
