www.FTV.com/videos MILAN - When not making a dramatic impact with colorful and out-of-the-box clothing, Vivienne Westwood loves to infuse her runway with messages from nature that educate the general public about what is happening to our environment. She does this in particular with issues of climate control and global warming. In this particular men's show for Milan Men's Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2012 - 2013, Westwood chose to hone in on the idea that ice caps and icebergs are disappearing in the North Pole and Antarctica. She was particularly inspired by Sir David Attenbourough's Frozen Planet on BBC. This gave her the idea to base this season's fall/winter collection on the North Pole/South Pole explorers of the twentieth century. However, she noted that they wore the wrong clothes, and she brought their more stylish attire (think tweed, knits, even nylon) to the runway. Though there were notable Westwood touches in makeup (lips were blue, hair was coated with ice, and models had icicles hanging from their ears and beards) but the collection itself was fairly demure in comparison to the crazier VW shows of the past with lots of leather, a few bomber jackets, and yes, the occasional big fur. No matter, we're sure the people will love it, anyway.
