It's been over a year since the conclusion of the ESOC Winter Championship 2020, representing perhaps the longest span of time that eso-community.net has gone without hosting a major event. Well worth the wait, it is with great pleasure and pride today that I'm able to present the biggest of kahunas, the mother of mammoths, the one for all the chips, the $5000 AoE3 Global Championship 2021. In partnership with elitegamingchannel.com, the Global Championship is set to be an event that will trump even the New World Championship 2019 in terms of scale and be the biggest tournament the AoE3 scene has seen in over a decade.

Those civs, especially Sweden, are very overpowered (or at least were when this game was played). So the 'gentlemanly' thing to do would be to choose more balanced civs, make it a more equal contest

I'm not surpised the only game Haitch lost is with Japan. Unlike popular belief, Japan is objectively the worst civ in the game, by far. For example:
1- The early eco is the worst because Japan can't hunt and the shrines are far from compensating this fatal flaw.
2- Japan shipments are also the worst in the game (2 vills instead of 3, 5 yumis instead of 7-8 etc.).
3- Military units are more expensive but not stronger, they are actually weaker. The only way for them to be as good as opponents units is to fully upgrade them, sacrificing eco shipments that the opponent benefit from.
4- Shrines are necessary to not fall to much behind on the opponents eco, but are expensive and are basically free XP for the opponents as they are extremely easy to destroy due to location and low hp.
5- Late game eco is also one of the worst in the game because Japan doesn't have factories and again, shrines are far from compensating.
6- the unique Japan technologies and benefits are actually not advantages, as they are necessary to keep up with the baseline eco military of the opponent. For example, the military bonus obtain from the Japanese consulate is enough to reach the same baseline level as the opponent military units. So if you pick the Portuguese consulate, Japan's units are actually more expensive but not better than the oponent's units. So the Japan player has to chose where he is gonna be at a disadvantage, and where he is gonna be at an equal level.
7- Flaming arrows are often mistaken for a culv and a falc in one. In reality, flaning arrows are a weak version of both, so that they deal a lot less damage than falcs, have a lot less hp than both falcs and culvs, are only a little bit less expensive, and get wrecked by both culvs and falcs.
8- Japanese military units are produced a lot more slowly than the opponents units, and the batch of 10 which Japan can access to mid to late game is far from being enough to compensate.
