I kept looking for a video when I did this, and I couldn't find one on the Genesis, so I decided to record it. I'm glad it's helping, I love the car. I wanna keep it running as long as possible.
@@moneypit1543 Thank you. I am having a little trouble getting those 4 clips off the engine in order to move the coil harness to one side to get more slack. In the video you said to just push on the side tabs, is there any other trick? I just don't want to break them. Thank you.
@David Burns try using a small flat head screw driver to push the tab and carefully pull the plug at the same time. If you can't get them out, try to wiggle the valve cover out without disconnecting the plugs.
I've never done this before either but now im gonna have to for my 2014 2.0t rspec. My question is, we don't have to drain the oil before opening it up? and the sparkplugs don't get in the way? Finishing up the video, I wasn't expecting the widebody.
Lol, I've had the widebody for a while, no need to do anything with the oil, doesn't have to be drained, and no need to touch the spark plugs, only the coil packs need to be removed, which are the 4 pieces I labeled with the yellow tape, you take them out, and then put them back in after. If you have any other questions hit me up.
@@josepezo7743 all I know is that I had an extra hose going over the block that got in the way. I accidentally tore it, so I ordered a new one. Only the 13-14 2.0t manual cars have it apparently.
Thanks to your video, I'm about to do mine tomorrow for my 2013 R-Spec 2.0. Local shops want to charge $300+ for this. I have a good backyard mechanic mentality and I have the tools to do it as well. Gonna study this video and hopefully it'll go smoothly. Did you take your hood off? I couldn't tell, but it seems like you could access the 10 mm bolts easily in the back. Anyhow, thanks for this video. Wish me luck. First time ever doing something like this on my Genny. I had a 2012 Veloster and I completely tore out my steering column to replace the little steering coupling spider gasket at the base of the steering rod connector. Fun. :)
@teddyhart2079 I recently sold the car, and it never leaked again after I changed the gasket. I don't know if you know this, but the cover is plastic. You can only tighten it so much
I’ve been putting off replacing mine for months and finally replaced mine today on my 2014 2.0T. Your video helped tremendously! 👍🏾
That's why I did this video, brother. I couldn't find one for this car specifically, I'm glad I could help

Great video!! I need to change the same gasket on a 2011 coupe 2.0T this weekend. Your video will help me a lot so thank you very much!!

You should def invest in a GoPro. But I really like the vid. It was really informational. I have a Gen myself
I saw there was some black gasket residue on the block when you took the cover off. Would it be better to scrape that off and have a clean surface?
Yes, I went around the top of the block and removed it all
@@moneypit1543 thank you
@@josepezo7743 anytime brother
How would you know if you have to do it ? Oil in the spark plugs I’m guessing ?
Mine leaked all around the seal
Mine was leaking oil a lot through the seal
yup, doing mine due to oil fouled spark plugs causing rough startup
How did you stretch it? With heat?
The gasket? Just pull on the rubber over the groove until it fits, no heat needed

Did you remove anything prior to the start of the video?
@@slentara1 I did not
What kind of silicone did you use?
Nice video going to be doing mine a 2014 genesis 2.0

I wanna do mine but does this gasket fits a 2013 genesis coup 2.0t ?? And if so can I get a part number please
Do u remember what gasket u ordered?
I bought it from Autozone.
Did you use the bolt tightening sequence and the required torque for each valve cover bolt per the shop manual?
Nah, I'm not a real mechanic
whats the torque of the bolts
Would that be in the Chilton's or Hayne's manual?
@@dylansmith3660 Neither. My torque specs were from the Hyundai Genesis 2.0T service manual
Where did you order your parts??
Advance auto parts or Autozone will have the gasket.
One year ago I bet it’s leaking again with the way you tighten it down lol

I just literally ask today how much they charge me to do it he says $280 🥴 I might have to try it myself
Easy as pie bro
What kind of silicone was the one you use ?
