You guys are an inspiration for our family .What a great video.Just on question when u travel from ny to florida how long does it take and how much fuel do u guys use on that trip.We have a searay 320 but i would rather have a boat like oloh.I think its time to trade up

But to answer your questions, we use about 27 travel days between Key West and upstate New York mostly traveling at our preferred cruise speed of ten knots. That covers close to 1,900 miles and we burn roughly 2,000 of diesel. The 32 Dancer is a nice boat. Our first two boats were a 21' Sea Ray Sundeck and 26' Sundancer. They somehow just kept getting bigger! Cheers 😎
As you may know, there is great debate out there about what defines a cruising boat as a trawler, but OLOH is technically and by its manufacturer's designation considered a motor yacht (Jefferson Marquessa Motor Yacht). We mostly choose to travel at closer to typical trawler speeds but we enjoy being able to get up and go at faster speeds when necessary.
Jasper says he's flattered 😊 He is a rescue whose Mom was a pitbull (she was rescued when pregnant with him) and Dad, according to the DNA test, was a German Wire Haired Pointer mix - which makes sense to us.
Not weird at all! While Jasper and Ringo are not trained to go on board, many cruising boat dogs are and go in a designated spot. Sometimes right on the deck, sometimes on an astroturf-like surface. For us, we always anchor near a spot where we can land the tender and take Jasper ashore several times a day. When we are underway it is occasionally for up to twelve hours which, while not done regularly, is OK for Jasper. We’re typically underway for six hours or less which is fine. And when we’re about to leave for a day on the water he seems to know it and is sure to take care of business before we take off. Thanks for watching!
Can someone explain in SIMPLE WORDS why they needed about 10X the released anchor line than the depth? Is that so the boat can drag...but only to a point because the weight of the anchor + that much line will hold the boat fast within a certain range?
This may or may not answer your question but more scope means less vertical strain on the anchor thereby decreasing the chances of unsetting the anchor. It is generally accepted that a scope of 7:1 will do a good job of holding in average conditions. We’ll have to leave it to someone else to explain in simple words the laws of physics that apply to the “why” of that ratio but we trust in what has been proven. Note that the ratio is not chain:depth, rather chain:depth+distance from the waterline to the place from where the anchor is deployed - in our case the bow pulpit. It is also accepted that, in many cases, more scope is better. So in places such as where we were in this video where the current is strong, the wind is blowing and we have ample room to swing, we are more generous with our rode payout. Hope that helps at least a little.
What brand of anchor do you have. Looks like a Rocna Vulcan. I’ve just bought one and am looking forward to trying it out over the Christmas holidays here in NZ
