    Great explanation and perfect for beginners. At 6:30 if you're using a Universal LNB the 22 KHz switch is by default ON on High Band (11.75 - 12.75) and OFF on Low Band (10.75 - 11.75) the Universal LNB's have a 22 KHz switch built in. And you can't change it.

    • @NorthcoasterHobby
      @NorthcoasterHobby  2 года назад +3

      Yes. Actually I notice the 22 kHz may be greyed out and say ‘Auto’ on some receivers (such as GTMedia) since it’s used by default with a Universal KU band LNB, or on/off as you said. But in North America the ‘high band’ of KU is pretty much all that is used. I’ll be covering the Universal LNB in a future video. But as you know already it’s a more involved LNB to explain, so much satellite signal traffic to direct with the universal LNB! Thanks again for watching.👍📡

    Thanks Northcoaster, invaluable information! Would the same technique work for internet? You explained it easy enough for me to follow! So was curious on the internet, since there is Satellite internet.

      Satellite internet uses Ka band, a different set of frequencies. It is also a transmit-receive system, whereas a KU band FTA satellite is receive only. The LNB used for internet is totally different as far as I know.
      Thanks for watching my channel!

      Possibly, but that might be a bit of work to get the LNB aimed at the focal point of the dish.

    Does DSS Dual Output Circular Lnb work for FTA?

    • @NorthcoasterHobby

      No, you’ll need a linear KU Band LNB for FTA satellite TV. Either Standard or Universal is fine.

    what does the 9500/10600 or 9500/10750 signify?? on some receivers?

    • @NorthcoasterHobby
      @NorthcoasterHobby  2 года назад

      I would imagine that they are variations on a universal LNB. Receivers have a wide range of frequencies to accommodate a variety of LNB’s. That’s why it’s important to check the label and see what the local oscillating frequency is, so there’s a match between the receiver and LNB.

      No. Bell uses a circular LNB. A standard LNB is for receiving linear polarized signals.

    I have a question about the signals and channels you receive. Are they just local channels or do they have other types of cable channels like USA network, and CNN.

    • @NorthcoasterHobby
      @NorthcoasterHobby  2 года назад +1

      Generally the same type of channels received locally with an antenna. But also news feeds, international channels and interesting stuff not available from an antenna or cable. But no actual pay TV cable channels. Those are encrypted.

    Is there any difference in performance between a standard and a universal LNB, when picking up USA satellites ?

    • @NorthcoasterHobby
      @NorthcoasterHobby  2 года назад +1

      I haven’t noticed any difference; both LNB’s work fine picking up North American satellites. When you are in an area that is within the footprint of satellites 0-61 West or Eastern satellites then a Universal LNB should be used.

    A tech channel called techquickie posted a video called: What Happened To Those Huge Satellite Dishes? you should check it out.
    It's funny when some people consider FTA satellite TV like something of the past, and only DirecTV and Dish network represents satellite television and when they do a research on Google and RUclips they find out that FTA satellite TV is alive, well and digital. On continents like Europe, Asia and Africa satellite in most cases has replaced OTA TV, rooftop antennas being mostly obsolete. I left a comment explaining that FTA satellite is very used and a link to your channel. I don't blame techquickie most of their content are related to PCs, Laptops, Smartphones and tablets.

    • @Nicholas_Chris

      P.S. I posted the link to the video but RUclips deletes it, somehow it considers spam the irony is that the link is a RUclips video.

      I watched it, and left a comment. Yes, funny how people think C-band has gone the way of the dinosaurs. Thanks for letting me know about it. It is indeed ironic that a RUclips link is considered spam on RUclips.📡📡

      @@NorthcoasterHobby Sadly there are people who think that C-Band and OTA TV is still analogue also, some of them think that it is ilegal to use a satellite dish without paying subscription, I keep telling them, you don't get arrested unless you do piracy, channels like HBO, ESPN, Discovery and major pay TV companies are encrypting the signal so you need a descrambling card or another receiver like Direc TV and Dish plus monthly subscription. On FTA receivers You see a message "scramble channel" for Pay TV, and the FTA channels are like OTA channels you can watch them with no problem. Only in North Korea and China is illegal to own satellite dishes for FTA.
