I started embroidery few days ago.self taught .I want to try pet portrait embroidery.I want to buy and try your book,as a beginner like me,do you think I can try it?
Hi there! Yes! The great thing about these patterns is that they use fundamental beginning stitches like back stitch, split back stitch, outline stitch and couching - and Michelle gives great instructions for these stitches. Depending on how much of a beginner you are - you might consider starting with her first project - the Outlined Portraits. She also has exercise's on thread-painting to practice creating the fur before committing to a full project. Also, the most important part about choosing a pattern as a beginner - is that you're motivated to do it! If it's something you think you'll be excited to work on - the more likely you are to do it. For embroidery - the more you do it, the more consistent your stitches will become.
Hi. I love your work. I am a quilter. I'm wondering if I can translate this into free motion machine quilting embroidery. I could still use a hoop but I would turn it the opposite way on the sewing machine bed so it would lay flat and free motion embroidery the colors. Do you think your information could translate into this for me?
Ooo I like the way you're thinking! Agreed, you would need turn the work face down to do bobbin work to get the same effect because this uses multiple strands of embroidery floss to achieve the stitch definition that comes with embroidery. The book is essentially thread painting by hand. Michelle does go into detail on how to layer the colors to get a realistic look fur and so in that regard, the book would be helpful.
