  • Seems a bit surreal this! The bizarre is only getting to get even more bizarre here as more locos are to be moved yet!
    See the latest shots of the Land Recovery Class 60's lined up next to each other near Alsager!
    Hope you enjoy the video! Thanks for watching.

    The ground level carefully prepared and all standing on track panels, so defiantly not for scrap, more like temporary storage facility..

    With EMD just down the road at Longport. I have a feeling these are going to be rebuilt by EMD/Progress Rail as they are nearby or if not. Wabtec is likely as they have done wonders with the C44-9W/AC4400CW's into the AC44C6M's that are Tier 4. Maybe something can become of these Class 60's like that. Great video and thanks for sharing.

      You may instead buy a useful loco ....there are some class66 to come from the continent..

      @HJDore Месяц назад

      @@class77sncbmost, if not all, class 66’s left on the continent are owned by leasing companies which is not what land recovery wanted. They instead planned to expand their currant rail holding’s operations to owning and operating their own traction which could be used to run aggregate trains for their aggregate and recycling holdings.
      Unfortunately the deal with DB was done before their announcement to withdrawn the super 60’s else land recovery may have spent a bit more and got running locos until PRL have a working demonstrator for their re engined 60.

      @@class77sncb Class 66's would likely be out of land recovery's budget as no chance they'd be able to compete with the money any of the leasing companies would front to add more 66's to there stocks.

      Definitely not a scrapyard, these are in temporary storage. It’s probable they will go through a rebuild program somewhat like the class 69, though would require a different engine block

    • @andrewreynolds4949
      @andrewreynolds4949 Месяц назад

      @@class77sncb The idea is to strip out the old internal equipment and fit new systems, while still using most of the old bodyshell (usually the roof would go), bogies etc. It's not really considered a new locomotive. What else they can reuse depends on the condition and compatibility of the components; I know some people were arguing elsewhere over whether they could reuse the generator/alternator assembly with such a rebuild

    • @andrewreynolds4949
      @andrewreynolds4949 Месяц назад

      @@class77sncb The alternators on the class 60 are extremely reliable from what I've heard, unlike the engines, so they would probably like to keep them if they can. There may be issues with drive shaft alignment or similar problems that could prevent that though.
      The traction motors on the class 56/69 were kept, and I don't know of any particular reason not to keep them. The class 69 kept theirs specifically because it allowed them to get out of a number of safety tests and regulations related to ride quality; it might be the same case here.
      The big prizes to replace would be the engine block itself and the control systems; the engine block to solve reliability issues, and the control systems would go in favor of the considerably more advanced kind seen in the class 69 (which is an updated version of that on the class 66). That could make a real winner of a locomotive if they can get it all working well.
