She was a great strategist, as prolly was the only ruler that enjoyed and lived as an independent ruler in Angola. (The western part of it, cuz eastern Angola was never colonized).
As a life-long student at age 78, it is refreshing and rewarding, when I can learn something new. Thank you for your insight into the pulse of history that I never knew about.
Thank you for this accurately presented representation of Queen Nzinga! Many people still think of Africa as a small country existing on primitive means. They do not understand how rich the culture and history is of this great continent.

I remember having to learn about Africa all through school during the 60s and 70s, still I am more guilty of being ignorant then I feel affected by Western propaganda. Not saying you're wrong. We definitely do not have the relationship with African countries that we need.

I just included a profile of her in a book of important women I wrote for a 13 year old girl's birthday. Nzingha certainly wasn't the first royal leader to assassinate a rival who had already proved jealous enough to harm her. Also, while Nzingha, as a woman, was unusual in the area, her particular people had a tradition of female leadership. Truly an inspiring woman.

The past must be spoken about and made relevant, and for someone like yourself, being a white person, and talking about it without cringing and looking embarrassed, means a lot. She didnt protect anyone from slavery. She just sold to the dutch instead of the Portuguese. This is ironically a whitewashed history to build up a minor ruler into an icon by lying about her reasons for fighting
Us in America know all about this Queen usually taught by our parents because in American school they don't cover African history they only cover Rome, England cultures

I just read an excellent book about her. It's entitled Njinga of Angola Africa's Warrior Queen by Linda M. Heywood.
