The Baldur's Gate IP was sold to another studio but after a lawsuit shortly after the first game was made the Dark Alliance IP was given to the company that made the first game (the lawsuit was over them using the Dark Alliance engine they created for the sequel and a few other games without permission). Kinda complicated but the point is the currently holders of the Baldur's Gate IP wasn't able to get the Dark Alliance IP, even though it was a spin off series.
It’s the Berserk of games. An old generation game with a unique story arc and well written and designed. It’s a game I’d always go back to playing just because of how good the story is. Just like I’d watch the 97 version of Berserk just for the story arc and only imagine how amazing it would be to get an amazing quality story again remastered and remade. There’s so many story arcs out there that can be brought back and excel today. One day you’re out killing rats looking for the people who robbed you, the next day you’re in a giant pitch black magical tower that houses probably tens of thousands of undead souls and a angry woman that is only alive because of her thirst for revenge with the ability to move thousands of lizard men, goblins, thieves, Dandogers and raise an raise an army of undead if your character doesn’t destroy the orb. It doesn’t get anymore plot twist escalation than that.
“Eldrith was one of the greatest swordsman ever known and hers is a murderous will, be careful should you choose to lock steel with her, or the battle shall be over for you.” And that she was. On extreme mode you simply couldn’t do hand to hand combat, you had to bow and arrow her to death and block with shield all the way till she died. Even with the best weapons in game you would still take about a half hour sweating to try to not get 1 shot. The closer you were to killing her the more demonic her appearance. She gets larger all around physically, growing to about 20 feet in size, the design on her helmet turns into antlers and her skin becomes dark in appearance, instead of sword throwing she just summons them to rain from the sky. Not only does she get more intimidating, her attacks ignore your shield blocks and she’ll once again be more than likely able to kill you in a swing or two.
Yeah. I still remember my dad standing behind me with my shield, and just shooting arrows at her for most of the fight. Took us hours of attempts, but it was weirdly fun.
Honestly as a child I found a way to cheese the entire game. Even on extreme I could go through the game without getting hit once. The only boss I struggled with was the ice dragon at the end of chapter two, cause of the raining ice balls. But the actual cheese strategy was to strafe around her, you could force her ai to just constantly turn to face you and when she did you could get her to attack with something you could punish, and then rinse and repeat. Any enemy with melee attacks would do this. It's considerably difficult to do flawlessly but you had to do it that way on extreme lol
On highest difficulty, i always found that she one-shots you if you come in sword range. In the end, the fight took me and my dad ages while i was guarding and he was shooting arrows from behind me. It was still fun, and idk why...
There's always bound to be weapons that you find that can be better than the onyx sword, but it's rare and I have yet to find a halberd that did more damage than the sword.
@@JechtTheLegend what they mean here is the eldrith fight, and for that fight there is no better weapon than the onix sword. I did try that, but even though the damage values of the onix sword were shown lower, it did (on eldrith's health bar) about 2.5 times more damage. That's the main use for the sword and also what it is described as in the story, as the only weapon that can truly damage her.
The back story behind Eldrith is probably the most compelling of most games if you really think about it, especially as an antagonist. She lead campaigns against beasts that threatened Baulders Gate with the westering sun. Even to this day I’m unsure if she was even morally wrong for electing to pursue the goblins to put them to death to ensure the safety of the city. The dukes refused to support her and more soldiers died. However turning to destroy your own city from rage after your men were slaughtered and you were pretty much beaten to near death and to the point where your face is even unrecognized by your own captains is still pretty horrific on both ends. It’s reason to be angry with the dukes but the citizens still shouldn’t pay for the choices the dukes made, which makes it morally wrong at the same time. So I’m completely 50/50 on this. Your greatest warrior wants to rid of all threats for good, would you not raise your banner to support her? Especially if she’s feared by the realm and has a cause to be willing to protect your way of life at the cost of her and the bond she’s made with the westering sun company? Why abandon the cause, if she’s a proven general on the field? Take a big name like Napoleon Bonaparte, lead campaigns against Great Britain and won them all. He was loved by his people. Maybe there’s a reason behind the Dukes leaving her and her men to die the way they did but I doubt it because their cause was reasonable for them to be welcomed back. She just needed help that time, and they refused to assist. So in hindsight, I can see why she was as pissed as she was. It’s complicated which makes it compelling. If the plot twist was to turn on Baulders Gate and assist in Eldriths rebellion with the army she created out of the onyx tower, I’m sure a lot of people would choose that option just as much as the default ending, because both have their reasons. Eldrith did lose many men and tried to keep the fight away from the city only when she wasn’t heard by the dukes is when she rebelled. To be such a strong warrior that was chased for probably hundreds of miles on foot to MAKE SURE SHE DIES, goes to show how gifted she was. No one wanted to lock swords with her, so she was arrowed to death. Crazy story guys. This is my definition of a compelling story, which is why this game would excel with a remake or remaster and an actual story arc to Baulders Gate. The hack and slash adds charm and can definitely be groomed. The characters like Yisuran the Necromancer also has a charming back story in DA2. Between killing a mad scientist that conducts crazy undead looking monsters, crossing elemental plains, rescuing civilians from wolf gang marauders, another few good stories to go with each chapter, and can easily make a book of its own worth of content and enjoyable to both story and lore driven players and those that want to have a fun time with a hack and slash game memorable to our childhood. Good luck in co op on extreme difficulty.
It bothered me a lot how she was killed and pursued, her men and her were running for their lives after they sworn to serve her and she sworn to protect the city. Like hey let me in, I demand an audience to hear me out as why I want to take the fight to the black horde, nope. Get lost you’ve already disobeyed us. What? I just risked my life along with my soldiers to protect this city. I know they will come back, so we wanted to fight them back, which we would have won. We had tactical advantages, I just needed more men to help. Go away eldrith, you and your men are no longer welcome here, men seize the city. This is where the dukes were wrong. But however because Eldrith ended up commanding the black horde and probably other civilizations to take other cities, that made her morally wrong to attack the cities. At the same time, she was already dead, and revived once again out of her rage. The same rage that was caused by the dukes. If Baulders Gate aided their champion, I think Eldrith would have yes come home with less men, but everyone would know they wouldn’t have to worry about the city again. After all, she was feared by many, and was a tactical genius (using the sewers for the new thieves guild that was commanded by xantam, using the dark elves to command the ogres and yetis to patrol the signal fire so the dwarven camp cannot get reinforcements. Using the teleportation gate to transport armies of dandogers across the sunset mountains. And finally having the lizard tribe take control of the Kings keep and utilizing their weaponry to take cities around the area) she commanded the whole horde, and no one else new except the actual leaders like xantam, dark elf queen, sess’sth. Reviving her fallen soldiers dead bodies to fight again at the rotting bog, and sunken temple, letting the environment of giant creatures guard the temple containing the water stair. Taking control of the ice dragon to guard the other gate once she saw the opportunity, (I mean what the hell is a ice dragon doing inside a cave?) Her captains were mostly the bosses you’ve faced along the way, she commanded them all. And they had their plans to do what they believed was right. Still all under the same banner, the onyx tower. She was for sure a smart general, and tactician. The dukes made a mistake not at the very least hearing her plea, and the city itself, had the 3 heroes not showed up, would have certainly been fucked from the sewers underneath.

So for example, say Eldrith was resistant to Radiant damage, and a paladin wielded the Onyx Sword. His Divine Smite would be able to work at full power rather than being cut in half.

Adrianna, the Elf, is exceptionally weak in almost every aspect. None of her spells really make up for how fragile she is, save one: Meteor Strike. It ANNIHILATES anything- groups, tough enemies, bosses... You don't even need the Onyx Sword for Eldrith.
Ball Lightning, though. Destroys everything. Probably the most OP of the 4 characters for that alone. Eldrith's immune, but I sat back with my shield and Melf's Acid Arrowed her the whole fight. 3 minutes on Extreme and it was over. No challenge, and I'd be damned if I was going to try and melee with Adrianna.
Why wouldn't you mention mordicans sword spell? It utterly decimates everything and best of all you don't have to aim or time it. Just cast it and let the magic sword do its thing while you do something else
AveryMarx0 then you definitely never played extreme, she’s able to 1 shot you if you fail her mechanics which forces you to bow and arrow her to death, you get hit just once and it being a PS2 game sometimes the button input wouldn’t register the block immediately so you’d probably be fucked in a single hit without perfect armor (full plate+5) and you’d have to restart the save. And co op is actually even worse since it makes the enemies withstand more attacks.
+Noah Sanders 10 seconds? You MUST have been playing on easy or normal. Xanhast was someone you could kite around, especially if you played as the necromancer. There were so many more ridiculously powerful options in BG: DA 2. If you played as the barbarian using 2 greatswords, one with amethyst and coral, the other with emerald and ruby, Xanhast was a push-over. You just regen your hp off of every hit and deal tons of crit damage. If you're playing necromancer and barbarian, it's insultingly easy, even on extreme. You just have to build right using the crafting system. Mordoc, I think, was a bit more challenging than Eldrith overall. But the fact that Eldrith was immune to electricity really messes with you if you're going sorceress, or even arcane archer.
