  • This is part three of the build. I did film quite a lot of the painting, but when it came to putting in the coachlines/pinstripes I found it hard enough without a camera looking over my shoulder too.
So here it is, ready to go. We hope you don't need our services too soon, but if you're in our County Cork, and you're interested then do get in touch. We didn't make it just to leave it under a dust cover in the barn.
Here's our online store where you can see some of the craft things we make and sell..

That, sir, is an elegant bit of craftsmanship. Quite nice really.

Another fine example of your never ending talents, well done! It must give you both a great sense of achievement seeing the fruits of your labour bring solace and comfort to members of your locality in their lowest moments. My grandfather was the last person around here to be taken up to the grave yard on a horse drawn hearse. Traditionally the family and friends take it in turns to shoulder the coffin out to the road, about 1/2 a mile. Then the hearse takes over with everyone following on foot. It's a far more dignified last journey than been hauled in the back of a glorified van!
Thanks again for all these excellent films.

64dexta Thank you. That's more or less exactly what we thought too - that walking slowly along with a horse is much more in keeping with the occasion than using a car. We've had only two funerals though - so not everyone feels the same way obviously..

Bear in mind though some cemeteries are miles away, (ours is about 10) so it's not that cut and dry. Horses, as some people don't realise and I only found out through wedding carriages, can't pull that far and then return in one journey. On weddings for example, the carriage is taken on a trailer and the bride can only have the service if the church and reception from the church, is not too far for the horse. So for some, no car hearse no funeral! It's well and good for the small country village but not so for the large town/city. The downside of the small village is a lack of customers compared to the more populated towns.

Your videos are great & so inspiring. Youre a true artist & craftsman. Any family would be proud to have their loved ones carried to their final resting place by such a beautiful horse drawn hearse. Thank you for sharing. Youre amazing.

londonparkponies4 Thank you - but in a strange way the privilege is ours. To be allowed to be present and help at a funeral is a great honour.

Thank you - we knew it would be a way to connect better with the local community, and it's already happening: today is our first booking. A little nervous - it could be disastrous if something goes wrong - but we're looking forward to it too.

Yes, they made a new channel called Work Horse Trainer with a couple of videos about how to hitch up the horses in a couple of different ways - Here is the channel ruclips.net/channel/UCZ_3gfpgmJhuwQqxr6Zqg9A
