    How historically accurate is this movie? My understanding is that the Emperor never spoke at cabinet meetings and had even less of a role to play in guiding policy than the King of England.

      IIRC and could be wrong. He did speak when it was extremely important such as situations like this

      @evancrum6811 yea, but this scene was in June. And from my understanding, hirohito only demanded they surrender after the bombs and the Soviet invasion of manchukuo and that happened in August. From my understanding he didn't really have any influence on the war, or atleast didn't exercised any, until August.

    I think in reality, it would have been figures in Shōwa’s court who would have pushed him to urge peace
    Smart thinking too, the army was operating on the idea that they must fight to the end for the emperor, so just get the emperor to tell them to stop fighting

      Hirohito was a fool, and made no effort to prevent his army from committing some of the most heinous war crimes in history, even though he could. He should have been taken too court, but macarthur would rather use him as a puppet

    • @Saffi____

      @@BoltonForTheNorth So he is guilty by association? Do you know for certain that he was even aware of said crimes knowing the fact that he preferred to stay out of areas like that. Heck apparently it was rare for the public to even see him. Don't put him to the guillotine simply because he is the head of state, your target should be Togo since he was the one who knew and didn't care as long as they won.

    • @BoltonForTheNorth
      @BoltonForTheNorth 2 месяца назад +10

      @Saffi____ we know for a fact that hirohito was complacent and knew about many of the Japanese war crimes. That is a fact. A fact that was deliberately covered over by America after the war. We know that hirohito knew about the three alls policy, (kill all, burn all, loot all), because we have a document about this policy with his royal zeal on it. I'm not gonna write down all the evidence we have because we would be here for 24h, and I'm far to bad at writing in English to make an essay. Please just Google it, or watch Mark Feltons video on the matter. Tojo was not the only one to blame

    This is a very inaccurate portrayal of the emperor Showa; my guess is this is an effort at rewriting history by the Japanese establishment. He was nothing like this. In reality he was weak, submissive, indecisive, and controlled by advisors. He had a mouse-like voice. To the extent he expressed his own views, he was simplistically hawkish
