  • The news of Haider Ackermann joining Tom Ford is a significant development in the fashion world, one that promises to shift the dynamics of both the brand and the industry at large. Ackermann, known for his poetic and sensual approach to fashion design, has cultivated a reputation as one of the most innovative and avant-garde designers of his generation. His work has always stood out for its masterful use of draping, fluidity, and an effortless balance between strength and fragility. Tom Ford, on the other hand, has been synonymous with sleek, unapologetic glamour and a razor-sharp aesthetic that defined much of modern luxury. The pairing of these two creative forces seems at first unexpected but upon closer reflection, could represent the perfect blend of high-octane glamour and intellectual, artistic craftsmanship. The question now is: how will Ackermann’s vision shape the next chapter of Tom Ford, a brand already so rich in identity?
Haider Ackermann’s appointment signals a bold new direction for Tom Ford. Ackermann is not a designer who simply follows trends or indulges in overt commercialism. Instead, he has always been driven by a deep artistic sensibility, often creating clothes that feel more like wearable art than conventional fashion. His collections have often spoken to an intellectual elite, with garments that emphasize emotional depth and fluid movement. By bringing him into the fold, Tom Ford seems to be making a statement about the future of its brand-one that could be less about overt sex appeal and more about cerebral, sensual elegance. This shift could potentially transform Tom Ford’s reputation from a label that represents polished, red-carpet allure to one that also encompasses a deeper exploration of personal style, identity, and emotion, all things that Ackermann excels at.
Moreover, Ackermann’s background and design ethos bring a fresh perspective to the ultra-glamorous world of Tom Ford. Whereas Ford’s approach has often been about creating bold, dramatic statements, Ackermann’s work is quieter but no less powerful, often favoring subtle details over brashness. His minimalist, yet deeply expressive style could inject a new layer of sophistication into Tom Ford, expanding its appeal to a broader, more nuanced audience. Ackermann’s ability to design for both men and women with equal mastery also opens up new possibilities for the brand’s gender-fluid direction, perhaps leading to more inclusive collections that reflect the evolving definitions of modern luxury. This fusion of Ackermann’s ethereal touch with Ford’s established allure could spark an exciting transformation, positioning the brand to lead in both innovation and luxury.
Ultimately, Haider Ackermann’s move to Tom Ford could be the fashion world’s most exciting development in years. While some may wonder if Ackermann will compromise his unique vision to fit the Tom Ford mold, others see this as an opportunity for the designer to bring a new depth and artistry to the brand. Fashion fans are eager to see how Ackermann will reinterpret the codes of Tom Ford while still staying true to his distinctive style. It’s a union that could create a whole new narrative in luxury fashion-one where boldness and sensuality are met with a quiet elegance, and where commercial success is balanced with artistic integrity. Ackermann’s arrival could very well signal a new chapter, not only for Tom Ford but for the entire fashion landscape, as it eagerly awaits the outcome of this groundbreaking collaboration.

Haider’s works at Berluti is also great! Just because he is good at mixing colors, patterns and textiles with his own label, doesn’t mean he cannot do subtle luxury.

Tom Ford became a name because he re branded Halston’s aesthetic for the 90s and early 2000s without the trashy over commercialization that ended up killing Halston’s own label and even the fragrance lines. Tom Ford understood one thing and it was GLAMOUR, he’s from Texas and here glamour isn’t frowned upon or laughed at (made camp) like in European circles. Glamour is a lifestyle especially for older Texan women (like the ones who raised Tom Ford) they get dolled to the nines to go to the Walmart and church services in Texas will put the Garnier Opera in Paris to shame, the girls are DRESSED. It was in this way that he reshaped Gucci and YSL he took the glamour seriously never as a joke. He brought this Dallas richness to faded European maisons and bathed them in jeweled toned velvets. Ackermann will do well because the brand itself is now a tailoring brand, the Neiman Marcus can’t keep those velvet blazers in stock. The shoes are also huge money maker at least here in the USA, every girl wants one of those pointed black pumps with the gold stiletto heel and don’t get me started on the boots. Ackermann’s hardest hurdle will be to not alienate the men who aren’t fashion who buy the tailoring in droves, he’s going to have to loosen his silhouette and make his garments more flattering for a much wider range of bodies. In other words his love for twinks might be his down fall, because the tailor has kept the lights on at that house since TF left. Much to see but I’m very excited to see his take on the Ford look and his vision.

I prefer Alessandro Sartori’s Berluti but it’s a subjective opinion. Love Haider Ackermann as an overall designer either way - definitely one of my favourites

I heard Peter had a bad temper in the studios. the stuff with the copying designs is neither here or there because you didn't see that on the runway and that's all that matters. Peter's first two shows and his advertisement from Brazil were absolutely stunning I hope he gets another house and I hope he's able to work again.
