I read it twice and the second time I noticed that aunts Manddys visions made so much sense. Gwyneth is Lucy's daughter so the Raven comes from a sapphire egg and sitting in the clock tower means that Gwyneth has the time travel gene. Also the lions rips the ruby heart so that means Gideon breaks her heart but it is to protect her.

Yeah. They Ruby heart was kind of obvious actually. Then again, I cross referenced prophecies between three books and memorized the symbolism table, so maybe I'm judging.

Why is her name Gweneth in the English version? In the original version she's called Gwendolyn, which is on my opinion a better name for a girl in the 21th century
Yes, it is Gwenyeth in the English version. I also think Gwendolyn is a better name.

First, I'm from Germany haha and I watched an interview with Kerstin Gier and there she told that the name Gwendolyn was changed in the english version because in England the name Gwendolyn seems to be horrible. But I can't understand why this name should be horrible, I actually like it
i was totally confused when I heared Gweneth. I am German and Ruby Red was my first YA book I think when I was nine xD Gwendolyn is I beautiful name! Why they changed it!
So glad to see I didn't reed her name wrong the entire book XD I read it in Dutch and the entire review I was sooooo confused.
I'm glad I wasn't the only one who was frustrated when Gwen waited so long to tell anybody about the time traveling. She only told her mom around page 100. But then I realize that barely 2 days had past and it wasn't that long. Also if Gideon fell for Gwen, I think they spend way too little time together for it to happen. Maybe Gideon is up to something.
Can we talk about that scene with the dress like "Are you by any chance staring at my breasts?" Says Gweneth "Not directly." says Gideon with a smirk!!!!! Like seriously how did Christine miss that?

I read this book in a day! It was so quick but so good! I like how this book has a female heroine but she is not fighting a war or anything. Like, she is fighting but not leading a revolution. I loved this book and hope to pick up Sapphire Blue soon!

Paulyn Radam When i saw this comment i had finished the book but hadn't read the epilogue yet, then I went back and read the epilogue and realised it wasn't a spoiler, my mistake!
THAT'S HOW I PICTURED TO CONFESSIONAL! I was like...how is this working???
I suspected about the couple of the Prologue the whole time and even before the middle of the book I was like: "No, they're not Gwen and Gideon, they must be Paul and Lucy". Soon after I was like: "Grace attitude towards everything is so suspicious, I bet Gwen is not her daughter. In fact, I bet it's Lucy's daughter! we'll see".
While reading the Epilogue I confirmed that my theory was right and wasn't very surprised about it. I was more excited ^-^
Can't wait for the next book :D

Kyle Brittain i think the movie is shit! i mean in my opinion its so so different from the books !! plus the ending was not even an ending ! but what the hell who cares. the books are still absolutely amazing.

i definetly recommend you watch the movie if you haven't already, there is a english dub available online. about the kiss in the confessional, you can slide the grate to the side so there is an opening. but yes, if they travel through time and the grate is closed that could be a serious problem.

i’ve been reading this book for 6 years, it never disappoints
i just ordered these from your review and finished ruby red in literally 7 hours without putting it down. despite this fact i'm not as impressed with it as i was hoping, it held me in the beginning lost me in the middle and then snatched me up in the end again, but despite the fact that it is YA and parts of it (and most of the descriptions) sound like short stories i wrote for english class in seventh grade, i did enjoy it and will read the next book. i would give this book maybe a 65 to 70%

Twelve hours ago I've seen the start of this video and I had an uncontrollable impulse to go on my ipad and buy the book. Three hours later I finished and as soon as my ipad is charged up again I'm getting Sapphire Blue as well. I just wanted to say thank you, I loved it so much

I loved your review! Working on my own for my blog. Just finished reading the book today. I love what you said about Count Creep-a-lot. He really scared me! And his little sidekick. I couldn't figure out what he was supposed to be but the description when she met his eyes gave me chills! And, of course, I had to read that whole part right before bed so falling asleep was next to impossible for a couple hours. (Thank goodness for Candy Crush ^^) I look forward to watching your Sapphire Blue talk when I'm done reading that one!

I have read all the book (in German) in like a week because they were so good. You guys just have to keep reading the series. It is so awesome and I still thing the whole series is way to short I just can't wait until all the movies are out. I have already seen ruby red and started sapphire blue but I didn't like them as much as the books because they cut so many scenes really short or they just made up new scenes that really didn't fit in with the book. On the other hand I really enjoyed the actors chosen to play Charlotte, Gideon, and Gwendolyn. Also the chronograph wasn't how I imagined it because they took it to the church like no problem and it was supposed to be in a safe behind a curtain and not randomly coming out of a huge box in the middle of a room. Also it was over dramatic with all the wind when they used the chronograph because when they jump in time they just get pulled into red light. No wind involved. All in all I loved the series and I am thinking about reading them again in English.
Wait what if Gwen's "mom" was actually the mother of Lucy and she just had become immortal and took care of her grand daughter as her own
It makes sense because
1. Her mother likes to look young
2. She doesn't look her age
3. She said she loved Lucy like a daughter
4. She would do anything for Lucy
5. Gwen's birth details are very vague
6. Lucy left 2 months after she was born
7. Lucy and Paul changed her birth date because they didn't want her to be "brainwashed"
8. Paul felt terrible that she grew up without a father
9. Paul seemed protective of her
10. They wanted to talk to Gwen to tell her about the truth
11. She got Paul's hair not the red hair that her siblings got
12. Lucy and Paul told Margret her name

Don't watch the film until after you read the second book though. It seems like there will be only two films instead of three, so there are lots of spoilers for Sapphire Blue in it.

I loved this book so much! It's 1 am and i had to stay up to finish it!
Along the lines of Gideon not aging there was a part when Gwen asked him how old he was and he said "19, or as good as 19 anyway" so there's definetly some sort of staying young somehow
I got it early on that the two people who were on the run were Lucy and Paul. I also got from the beginning that they left behind their baby so when Gwendolyn says says that she is the only black sheep with dark hair I made the connection that she might have been that baby(Lucy's and Paul's baby) . What made me kinda confirm it was how the temple people asks Gwyneth's mom why she didn't want to get checked out after the birth /:|( suspicious...). I however didn't see what's how Gideon was a mind reader:0

I love how enthusiastic you are! I finished the novel two days ago and just finished the movie (with English subtitles). I have to say that I enjoyed Ruby Red, and agree that it ended way tooo quickly. I died at "Count fucking creep-a-lot"! XD I was afraid of him too. And was I the only one who adored Robert? He was adorable, and I was hoping that Gwyneth would tell Dr. White that Robert is there (or have Dr. White find out somehow!). Despite how cold Dr. White appeared to be, he must have loved Robert so much -especially when Dr. White said that kids get angry and say things they don't mean when they for instance, leave their bike out during the rain. Lesley and Gwyneth had the greatest friendship! It also reminded me of my best friend and me, because I would never hide something like this from her. I also softened when Gideon slowly became nicer and nicer to her. I loved the kiss! And I don't think I visualized the ending too much -as long as they kissed, I'm happy. LOL! Let's assume that at some point, the windows slid and nothing was in the way (well, at least in the film, it was like this). I'm also feeling scared for Gwyneth because her mother, Grace, told her to trust no one...and I'm not sure who to trust either (aside from Lesley)! If Gideon ends up being the antagonist, I will CRRY. I hope that when I read the next two novels, Charlotte and Gwyneth's relationship would have improved. I don't quite understand Gideon and Charlotte's relationship either! The synopsis of the movie says that Gideon's Charlotte's boyfriend...but that's not how I interpreted it. LOL. I think Charlotte and Gideon were good companions? I mean, if Gideon and Charlotte were in a relationship, why would he kiss Gwyneth? -Oh no, he can't be a player. NO. + there's always James.
She's also called Gwendolyn in the norwegian version of the books :D Btw: awesome books! ^^
I think her raven power is she can travel into the future, because remember she time travels the 3 time and she sees herself in a yellow dress, and the dress designer talked about a yellow dress when she first met her.

This book was amazing! I LOVED IT! I can't wait to hear more about Lucy and Paul! They are so interesting! Oh and I want more time instances where she sees her younger/older selves! Should be a lot of fun! Overall, a very good book that I flew through! OH and I agree with you about the part where you said she should I told someone about her time traveler earlier!! That whole time when she was going back in time suddenly I was like ... AHHHHHH! Tell someone! Quick, you and I have no idea what is happening that this is super scary! Hehe It was great!

The minute I finished Ruby Red I drove to Barnes and Nobles to get the second book. Then to find out their sold out and now I have to wait 3-5 business days for my order to arrive.
I LOVED ruby red and sapphire and now im just waiting for emerald.the movie came out in march but the bad thing is that i dont think its been translated to english i had to see it in german with spanish subtitles. i love how you express about a book and i like how you ramble on because that is how we all preety much feel about books (at least the ones that like them)

I'm glad you're finally reading these! I personally prefer the original covers (my Dutch translations kept the cover, and Gwen's original name (Gwendolyn)) but I'm glad you like your cover so much! Gwen did really annoy me though, because I read the books when I was 16, just like her, but she acted as if she was only 13 or something like that. I knew Lucy and Paul were he parents from the start, I thought that was really obvious.
There's a movie in German based on this book, but you can also get it in English.
So happy I already read Ruby Red before your book discussion came out cause then I could watch the whole thing. I have the second one but haven't read it yet. Now I want to reread the first one and read the second before the third comes out

Because sometimes he seems to not trust her, and maybe he was being so protective of her in that one scene because he thought they might keep her there and raise her as their daughter...Idk that's what I think! can't wait to get my hands on Sapphire Blue!!!!

I hated the random Gideon kissing her part. i was like what the fuck?! that came out of no where. He was all dramatic and poetic and stuff like "oh i dont think you're ordinary any more, i think you're amazing. even though a day ago i hated you"....it was so weird. But other than that i loved everything else, about to start the next book :D
