While most people use their 360 cameras for reframing another popular use is creating interactive VR videos.
The X4 is the first consumer 360 camera to be able to shoot 8K 360 video and RUclips has recently upgraded their VR app to play 8K. This could mean a huge boost in high quality VR footage.
What do you think of the 360 footage in this video? Is it good enough to view on a VR headset and will you be recording parts of your life in VR to watch back later?

I just watched this on my Quest 3 and although it is not perfect of course, it has the feel of "as good as it gets", unless the budget is unlimited. I think this format of video is the strongest selling point of the X4 for those who have a VR headset to go with it. So good for special occasions where it enables time travel back to the day. But I do wish that the Q3 joysticks would support rotation of the image when I am comfy on the sofa!

I have a couple vr 360 videos I did on my motorcycle
It is great. I hope to watch more videos like this one.
My problem is a vision. I cannot think of the immersive ideas you all come up with. Great to watch though. I have the 360x3 but just play around with it.
You don't have to come up with ideas, all the greats copy ideas from others and improve upon them
Did you use the original plastic lens on this video?
This is really nice. Looks great on a large screen setting RUclips quality to 8K. The best my iPhone 14 can do is 1440s, which doesn't do it justice.

saw on quest 3 and really amazing, much better than in 4k, now I know that 16k would be perfect, sad that we would need quest 4 for watch.

Hello. Thanks for the video. Is Insta360 X4 more detailed than ONE RS 1? Does it make sense to replaceInsta360 X4 with X4? Compare them in the photo, please.
This looks A LOT better than the footage from my X3 (also other videos I found online) with a meta quest 3 VR headset. The X3 has a lot of compression artifacts and details are blurry. But this video has a lot of tiny details.
Almost a reason to upgrade from X3 to X4.

What are your settings for export in detail if you dont mind?
I am surprised at this footage. The color science is off, the artifacts and breaking down of image are imminent. This is umm.. wow.
the stitching is perfect! Is that due to the new X4 built-in software?
How did you get this working? I keep trying and the stitching of the 360 format using the GoPro plugin looks fine in the editor, but after exporting it, it’s a total mess….

this video play back on YT is keeps pausing to load in 8k, even with 1gig download.

Every time i upload my8k 360 vids to RUclips. They look horrible in 4K. In premiere bore i upload them they look great. Am i missing something ?
What aspect ratio is this? I must be missing a step. I keep trying to export in 1080 by 1920 but it doesn't come out that way.😢

People saying that the vid is poor or blurry probably don’t know how to change the quality here on youtube. I have a go pro max and the difference is huge. I’m going to order in the next couple of minutes the x4.

When filming in 360 and walking with camera how good is the stabilization.
Pretty good. The horizon will be stable. Best during the day outside though
I saw your video in Apple Vision Pro, the quality is better than my insta360 x4 8k export video(my export has significant pixel blue issue), can you help to share the export setting tips? Like do you use Insta360 studio or Adobe Premeire Pro to export the video? Use H.265 or ProRes format?
Export individual files using the Insta360 Studio in the Prores format. I combine them in premiere pro where I also colour correct and add other elements. Export in hs64 at 8K 100mbps

When shooting 8k, did you use H.264 or 265 in the camera? I assume the desktop software takes either, the camera says 264 is "compatibility mode". Is one better?
i assume it was h265 out of the camera
H265 is the better option
how much space does the 8K footage take/hour, what kind of memory card do you recommend?
I do use Samsung 512gb a2 card. Very fast and affordable.

The highlights are blown out. I was going to get the X4, but the Insta360 app on the iPad keeps complaining about “insufficient storage” to export X2 videos on an iPad with way more than enough space. I can’t imagine what troubles would occur with attempts to export even higher resolution videos.
Everyone will be running to Qoocam 3 with 10bit , or perhaps GoPro Max 2 in the fall 2024.. we will see. Your virdeo is look great in 4k and even 8k on my 38" monitor, but of course you are static and not moving. I would use Davinci and Optical Flow to 60fps this at 8k.

How long did it take to process your video for 8k? Mine only shows as 4K after 24 hours. Many thanks. This looks great.
It was after a few hours. Sometimes RUclips doesn't do it at all and you have to re-upload. It only worked wheh i exported at h264
@@The360Guy Cheers. I tried different variations - prores, 264, 265 etc and was very hit and miss.
The image is quite grainy and visibly less sharp than Action 4.
I really want to like Insta360 cameras. I have the x2. However, I still think the video quality of Sony Action Cam is better than the x4, albeit it is not 360. Thanks for the vid.

Stitching doesnt look good. Lines of the buildings aint straight. They are wonky. The video bar is a good tool if its straight in the video and not placed in an angle.
I have an x3 and this doesnt look much better at all. Especially if I run my video thru topaz ai
puh.... not shure what to say.... this is the all new x4? Sorry, but the image is blurry, no details... i'm shocked! (i've seen some other 8k 360° uploads that look the same - watching on a 4k monitor )
how is this even possible? the footage looks like 20 y/o DIVX highly upscaled... i'm a professional cutter/colorgrader - if my camera-operator would bring me footage like this i'd ask him to bring his camera in for service... :(
I'm glad i didn't buy an x4 and stick to my old x2 (that also sucks, but not that hard!)
Watching vr videos will affect the eye sight?
That is sad that you need to use Adobe for 360... Hope Davinci gets into the 360 world more.

Says 8k so many times. To be honest , in places it's worse than 4k would be. Kinda cloudy and fuzzy
It's a 360 video so it's not going to look the same as 8k normal video

yeah when watching youtube you have to check the quality setting everytime with these sort of videos to make sure you got the best viewing experience

Go to settings, choose quality, advanced, choose 2160s. You'll get 4k quality.😊
Why are my images not being saved as 360 images to my iPhone album when I export as 360?… they are just flat extended stretched images, and does Facebook no longer support? 😢
