  • OK: this is my favorite version of this tune ever--"Sell My Monkey"the definitive rendition of basically our theme song.
    Possibly the best configuration of Trouble Monkey doing our crowd-pleasin'est number....and, as I never fail to point out, one of the few tunes B.B. King **wrote**.
    More detail below on why I think this particular cut is so special, for any who are interested.
    ========LONG STORY LONGER========
    This 's my favorite cut of what many called our best tune because this cut features the incredibly musical 2nd guitar of only-short-time-Monkey Michael Bowman. Besides just incredibly cool extemporaneous dance-floor-filling solo riffing, Michael is the G.O.A.T. at something I really, really dig that I think may kind of a rarefied taste, which is, when two soloists sharing/trading move beyond call-&-response & get playful over & around & underneath each other.
    My gut feeling is a lot of people find it mildly annoying, some because they expect or prefer "jeez, wait your turn, dude" 'polite' a-then-b "trading" conversations, & simultaneous interplay takes more active exertion to listen to than I bet some folks enjoy.
    But dammit, I LOVE it when another player feels where you're going, or you him, & twine around & makes a new, layered thing.
    And nobody did that better than Michael.
    I'll add one other tune with Michael pretty soon that's the other pinnacle of interactiion with & just plain cool licks from MIchael Bowman--my favorite guitarist to ever join the Monkey Pack--that cut will be his take on "Down So Long," the Albert King classic...it's a lot more relaxed than "Monkey," which is so aggressively upbeat & fast-paced that if you're not in the mood, it can be almost assaultive--"Down So Long" is a ton more laid-back, for those times when your mood might not be all, "hey, Mark: tell me about that ape on Craigslist again". 😉
    (I also see I have a track of us doing "Framed" when he was with us, might also be worth an upload..;) ...but "Down So Long" is possibly the best of the three....it's neck & neck with "Monkey" )
