  • This video is about the NEJE Max 4 diode laser engraver. I think it could be one of the most excited diode lasers now.
    In this video, I explain why?
    If you are interested in this laser, I would appreciate it if you could use the following link to enter their site.
    shareasale.com/r.cfm?b=163232...
    My main channel is "Hooked On Wood," with over 150K subscribers. / @hookedonwood
    But I wanted to make a new channel that is more related to Laser engravers.
    So, this is my first video on this "Hooked On Lasers" channel, and I hope you will subscribe. You can expect more content about Lasers, tips, and tricks, and you can follow me on the journey with my new CO2 laser I will get in a few weeks.
    For reviewing this laser, I do have experience with Atomstack, Enjoywood, Neje, and Gweike Cloud laser engravers. This Neje Max 4 Diode laser is sent to me by Neje for this review.
    As with all my reviews, this does not influence my experience or how I shared it in this review.

    Many thanks for the video Dennis. After watching it I ordered the Max 4, I live in the UK and it was delivered within a week. You mentioned that you would be doing a follow up video on this laser, which I would be very interested in watching. Do you know when you will be releasing the video? Many thanks and good luck with the new channel

      Got my max 4 yesterday, took me 3 hours to get it fired up. Very frustrating to build with no written instructions and no prior experience/knowledge of lasers. Now I’m trying to figure out how to adjust the head for focus. Is it done on the machine or the software or a combination of the two? Haven’t found a video explaining that.

    Still no 3D printers... :poke: :^). Good luck with the new channel. I suspect at some point I may get one - it just needs a home and I'm too tight. I'm working (it seems to be on the long range time line) on a RC balsawood airplane and the short kit was laser cut, but some bits don't fit all that well (I think they used the original die cut bits to program it, frankly the whole kit could stand to be redrawn in CAD so the lines are better) so this would be a real boon for redoing some parts.

    Hi Dennis, I am new to laser engraving and am looking at getting the Neje MAX 4 with the E80 module. Do I need to buy a separate air assist module? Thanks!

    • @HookedOnLasers
      @HookedOnLasers  8 месяцев назад +2

      with the base offer on their site, you need air assist. So, when interested, I think the option with honeycomb panel and air assist is the best to make. These are two essential accessories you need. I found the price difference for these two accessories very affordable. Especially considering its large honeycomb panel. Best regards. Dennis

    I think something is not correct. The diameter of the laser dot does not become bigger if you use the right lens. The lens makes the focal point. Please elaborate.

    So if you only wanted to buy one laser, and the cost wasn’t a factor, I assume the Gwieke Cloud is the better purchase due to greater usability?

    • @HookedonWood
      @HookedonWood 7 месяцев назад +1

      I like the fact you can cut acrylic with the Gweike Cloud. But when woodworking is your main thing, and you will use it to create templates, this is the one. The size is so much bigger, especially with the extension kit. You can make relatively large templates. I like the Gweike Cloud for its build quality and how they ship it. The new versions do have a good automatic focus, and it has more power. For a Diode laser, this Neje would be my choice. The 20 watt is powerful enough and there is a good change that when the laser units itself would be even more powerful in a way it will make a difference, you can change it in the future for that one.

    Would you recommend this over an xtool? I’m a true beginner and have never used a laser.

    • @deano572
      @deano572 5 месяцев назад

      If you got the extra money get the X tool if you’re ok with its size I would pick X-Tool. The Neje really has no instructions, also had to build the relay for the air assist. Neje works well but I had to invest a dozen hours into RUclips videos to figure it out. In my case I need the larger work area.

    Can this laser engrave correctly for example if you are engraving across a picture frame that has different heights? Or would that only be the case if you design the picture frame in Fusion, cut it on a cnc and then engrave with this laser. Which of course would be a lot of work.

    • @AlAmantea
      @AlAmantea 7 месяцев назад

      If the Z axis has even travel distance to handle the frame, then yes. this could be done.

    • @thingswelike
      @thingswelike 6 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, you would need a cad model of the frame to be able to generate the 3D toolpath.

    Hoi Dennis,
    What happened when the workpiece moved?

    • @HookedonWood
      @HookedonWood 8 месяцев назад

      I lowered 6mm total. Bit that leaves not that much space left. And because the honeycomb panel was not completely flat, this was the result. Did not have the time to do it over and it would not change the outcome by much.

      I got this answer from Neje.
      Because after Brexit, goods from our European warehouses cannot be sent to the UK. Many logistics do not support sending to the UK and can only be shipped from China. However, shipping from China requires high freight and tariffs.
      We have currently transported a batch of goods to the UK and they are still on the way. They will arrive at the warehouse around November. We suggest that he wait for a while before ordering products shipped from the UK.

    what do you think about it, does the laser also work with other full-color, non-transparent Akrylic? In the near future, I would have a lot of work with non-transparent acrylics, white, red, yellow, etc.

    • @HookedonWood
      @HookedonWood Месяц назад +1

      For cutting Acrylic I would invest in a Co2 laser. You can laser black Acrylic, but it is not as nice as with a Co2 laser. Especially when you want to sell something like that, I do not think it has the quality you want to offer.

    Is there a need to consider some kind of air filtration?

    • @HookedOnLasers
      @HookedOnLasers  8 месяцев назад

      Absolutely. You need good suction. Best is to make a enclosure box with some holes to let it breath and a good exhaust fan outside.

    One thing i havnt got an answer to watching some videos. Do i need some kind of exhaust for the fumes/smoke from lasers? How do i solve that? I guess my smoke alarm will go crazy, and what about my lungs?

    • @HookedonWood
      @HookedonWood 6 месяцев назад

      Yes, you need some kind of box to place the laser in with an exhaust fan. Depending on what you want to do, this fan should be stronger. These lasers have become more and more powerful. And when you cut thicker wood, you burn more, and this smoke has to leave. Too much smoke can set on the lens, which can burn. The second reason is your health. The third reason is that when you have a good solution for this, you will use it much more. Such a box does not have to be complex. Keep some holes in it, so it can extract some air when the fan is running.

    • @rnenjoyrightnow
      @rnenjoyrightnow 6 месяцев назад

      @@HookedonWood Thank you so much for answering! Ok i see. Should it go to some kind of filter, or should it go outside? Outside is harder to solve.
