To clarify, I do not think that people who disagree with me or like the DLC are in a "cult." I just think the way that some Fromsoft fans argue is "cult-like."
If I dislike the action combat of SotE bosses and the fanbase tells me it's my fault for disliking something because I didn't use summons, I find that to be cult-like. It's an argument made under the assumption that the game is inherently enjoyable and that all negatives someone might have is their own fault, and that if I had used summons or a meta build I would enjoy the game. It's almost like I have to beat a game I don't enjoy with 5 different builds just to prove I dislike it.
Either way it doesn't matter too much. I'm just leaving this comment because I think people have misunderstood me to a certain extent. I don't believe in objective criticism about art, and if you want Shadow of the Erdtree's design to be the future of Fromsoftware it's fine to disagree and dislike the video. I will sit on the sidelines and be sad as a series I used to love turns into something I no longer enjoy, and more games like this will be in From's future.

People don't say "just use summons" because it's the fun way but because it's one of the many ways to elevate the difficulty of which you complain about so much so you can have a better time. You think the only way to play is either with an underpowered build or completely cheesing every boss but the difficulty is a massive spectrum that you can find a middle ground in like using a better weapon, or an ash of war, or shields, or magic, or runes or buffs etc... but nope it's either 2 options for you and one's not engaging with it at all whilst the examples above you still are but making it easier for yourself. It's not the fault of the game if you ignore half of the mechanics and find it too hard and refuse to elevate difficulty or overcome it with your super restrictive challenge runner style

    • @TheFuzzician
      @TheFuzzician 18 дней назад +6

The way I have learned to reconcile my issues with Elden Ring (DLC and base game) is to accept that this game is....not Dark Souls. What I mean is this game is now more like an action adventure RPG, that shares many mechanics with the previous games, as opposed to something like a sequel. To players who were never that interested in learning the bosses "properly", this will be a breath of fresh air, because they will be able to overcome the challenges on their own terms (summons, magic, strong weapons, etc...).
This means more people (who otherwise would have completely bricked against something like Sekiro) are able to play and enjoy it. Because they didn't come here for a Dark Souls-like challenge. They came for an adventure. And they got exactly that. Not everyone wants a tough but fair challenge - some just want a pleasant journey, with an occasional bump in the road.
We, the souls vets, have been annoyed that From essentially made a game that is.....not what we came here for. But because it looked SO much like the previous games (let's be honest, it is literally Dark Souls 3 with jumping and a horse), we assumed this would be more of the same. And it was...not quite that.
At the end of the day, it is a good thing that Elden Ring exists, because it offers something worthwhile to many people. And those of us who are not on board with this new direction, we will always have Sekiro, Bloodborne, and even Dark Souls 3 (and DS 1).

@feebleking21 careful, you might offend the "Alpha Gamers" who desperately need to swing their "Alpha Gamer" cocks around at any conceivable opportunity. To them Elden Ring is the only real challenging game. All previous games are easy "press A to win" baby games, and they'll make sure to remind you how "Easy" it is and how much more "superior" they are too you at every opportunity in a sad desperate attempt to feel better about themselves

@AndrewAung1992 this coming from the fanbase who went on a whiny rampage over "review bombing" on Steam when it wasn't even Review bombing to begin with. If every attack does like 60-70% then the game becomes a snooze fest of just waiting to for an opening to heal just get hit again after healing and waiting for another opening while your still trying to figure out the moveset of the boss. If Bloodborne is Dark Souls on crack this game is like playing Souls on Fentanyl while the the bosses are on crack assuming your not using summons or a cheese build were you just stack out the boss.

Problem is that you guys (including Feeble King, as he both says himself and shows in his gameplay footage) keep using the "dodge back and heal after the enemy is done with his combo" routine, which the boss punishes. Because you're trying to heal while the boss is in neutral.
Of course it'll attack if you try to heal from neutral. If you get hit, you stay cool, you finish dodging the combo, and as soon as it's over, you have to use your punish window to heal instead. It's the trade-off for being hit.

"Outside of Shadow Realm Blessings, a few new talismans, and if you decide to build-switch to a new weapon, all extrinsic rewards in the DLC are worthless."
I'm sorry, but what else is there? What other extrinsic rewards are you expecting? The total list of options are, runes to level up or buy things (you already said you can't level anymore past your softcaps), talismans and other gear, of which I'm including armor pieces, spirit ashes, which you said you refuse to use, and weapons (almost 100 new ones added in the DLC with several occupying brand new categories). What other extrinsic categories are there? I guess there are craftable items and cookbooks, but you admitted you don't craft and you find cookbooks worthless and disappointing.
I agree with your criticism of the emptiness of the southern and North Eastern map regions. I was disappointed with how sparse these regions were too.
Belurat has bad enemy variety but Midras Manse has good variety? Belurat has 5 enemy types (6 if you include the invader). Manse has 4 (5 if you count the fat version of the skinny librarian enemy as a different variant). One of the Manse enemy variants is the dreaded "rat reskin" from the overworld. Both Belurat and Manse have the same vertical scaling design to mark progression through the dungeon with Belurat even adding two optional sewer and poison swamp portions that Manse has no form of.
All this to say its perfectly fine and good to not like the DLC. It has strengths and weaknesses, no question. I just don't know if these opinions are based in anything more than your feeling towards isolated portions of the DLC's identity. To that point, I think your criticisms are perfectly fine to call this, "your least favorite Miyazaki DLC," but not objective enough to be called "The Worst Miyazaki DLC."

Answering the rhetorical question was a little bit of the point. I wanted to emphasize that there really isn't any room for improvement in his eyes. He didn't have much to say that wasn't positive about the base game, but the DLC didn't deviate from that formula really at all. It was more to point out that he wasn't really providing constructive criticism, just unresolvable complaints. Also, I hate to rely on the opinion of the crowd, but Elden Ring's resounding consumer success doesn't line up with "the souls formula doesn't translate well to the open world." Even if you put the success aside though, what else other than the rewards I listed in the og comment would you like to see as "rewards" for interacting with open world elements?

    • @slei4676

@@joeeveryman6960 I don't understand. You were directly replying to him making a criticizm but now you're saying there is no room for improvement in his eyes? The point of criticizm is to point out things that could be improved.
And to answer your question; traditional rpg's with open worlds give you an universal intrinsic reward in a form of story quests. Elden Ring still follows the dark souls storytelling techniques so there's no quests to fill the map and a handfull that we get serve more to establish a tone for the world rather than making you an active participant. The universal intrinsic reward in ER is finding a bossfight at the end of a level, but vast majority of bosses in ER are copy-pasted or reskined so that goes out of the window. Besides that the problem isn't neccesarily with the rewards being specific to every player and their build but rather the fact that the ER's open fields make getting to those rewards a lot more tiresome. Imagine going through a dungeon for 15 minutes just to get to 10th Tree Spirit and get a spell after beating it while you're going strength build. Pure waste of time. Imo open world soulslike will always feel mostly empty and pointless because of the nature of the series itself. So basically I wish they would try to make DS1 map again but even more intricate or a big open world with traditional quest design but with their Fromsoft flare.

@@EmmanuelJIgbokwe To both of you, an issue with this is that you lose the chance to go for a charged heavy attack. This means that the boss's posture bar will reset and you have to start over from scratch to get in a posture-break. I never got any such breaks on Radahn, which is a major issue since I and many others base our entire playstyle around aggressively finding every opportunity to stack that posture-damage as fast as possible and murderize bosses using stancebreaks. The fight turned into a slow endurance-run where I had to take smaller openings here and there and never land a stancebreak, just slowly whittling down on that healthbar. I still think the bosses are sick and this is definitely not From's worst DLC when shit like Bayle, Messmer and Midra exist, but this is a certain flaw with the game.

You’re not growing in skill by fighting those kinds of bosses. If it was about skill they wouldn’t read your animations and go into large run-on combos, use delayed attacks to make reaction a memorization game rather than a reasonable intuition game, stagger you easily, and be so darn resistant to stagger themselves.
Gael was the pinnacle of Dark Souls-style boss design. Readable, easy to respond to, aggressive, and fair. It was a duel, all good boss fights are duals/dances. Elden Ring’s boss fights are long memorization games where you aren’t rewarded for your skill, but rather how well you remember the information fed to you in each boss phase.

This is true but the problem with that is all the DLC bosses are hyper aggressive, rush the door and smack you around and you obviously don't know where the attack windows are because you don't know anything about the boss. So you end up getting into a cycle of trying to heal getting hit again and then trying to heal again. It's rather annoying. I understand why people are irritated by this. Personally I've been just going in with a shield and blocking their combos until I feel like I've learned a bit then losing the shield.
I think another solution I've been saying for a long time is to have a summon who doesn't engage in combat but rather plays support. Just applying heals and buffs to the player. They kind of did this in the DLC but the summon can only heal with a spell so you have to be close to her and she also throws pots which can pull aggro and get her melted real fast.
I think having a support summon would be a great compromise for players who don't like summoning because of the split aggro and would make the learning process much more manageable and less frustrating.

The section on healing is just full of straight up incorrect information. It might be one of the worst critiques I have ever seen actually.
You showed Rellana using her 5 range combo and said it was punishing your heal, but that isn’t even her heal punish. Her heal punish is just one of those attacks, not the combo. Further, you weren’t even trying to do a heal animation at this time. You were just running away, unless you also want to include being attacked while retreating as a heal punish which would be insane I think. You also played footage of Mesmer where you said they close distance to remove the heal but you healed right in the middle of a combo! It didn’t even look like he was finished attacking. It doesn’t matter that you had distance. That wasn’t a heal punish! You then had more footage of Rellana where she closed distance on you quickly but that wasn’t a heal punish that was how she naturally behaves in stage 2!
Please use actual heal windows. Running away to make distance isn’t inherently a heal window and you should know better. In fact, that strat often removes heal windows.
Other than those specific examples in your footage, you have certain ideas that are just bad.
First, you don’t have to heal all the way almost ever. You just don’t. And they don’t do enough damage to necessity you having to use more than one MAYBE two flasks tops, and using the second is faster than the first for anyone who doesn’t know. They really don’t need a speed increase on heals. If you do take that much damage it’s because you got yourself hit then didn’t react appropriately and got combo hit.
Second, you talked about taking damage and wanting to roll out to heal. That is entirely the wrong way to handle damage and heals, and, again, you should know this by now. Everyone in the DLC should understand this. You have no one to blame but yourself if you roll into roll catches because you refuse to heal any other way than trying to make distance whenever you feel like.
Lastly, you can’t always get what you want. Oh you identified a window to heal but you would rather heavy R2 instead? Okay then accept you’re going to be more vulnerable health wise. You just want to have your cake and eat it too. You will be fine losing a bit of posture damage I promise.
    Ridiculous

    • @SilverIV
      @SilverIV 21 день назад +1

I think your critique-critique is mostly correct, however I'd like to point out one thing. The idea of wanting to have your cake and eat it too is kinda true, but the thing is you don't just lose some posture damage. You lose all of it. If you go for long enough without attacking the boss, instead of posture gradually decreasing like in Sekiro, it immediately juts down to 0. I'm not sure if the 6 seconds it takes Malenia to trigger her posture regen is universal or not, but with the longer combos and fewer windows to attack, the larger windows to charge attack turn out to be just barely close enough to each other to land a posturebreak if you dodge everything flawlessly and charge heavy every option. As such, having to heal in one of those windows reduces all your progress on this current posturebreak to 0, which stinks a good bit since the base game has enough openings in every boss that you can sacrifice some of the windows for charged heavies to heal and still have frequent enough openings to reliably land posture-breaks.
On the whole I still only felt that this was a problem with like Radahn, Rellana, Bayle and MAYBE Messmer, and Bayle is still one of my favourite bosses ever cuz the DLC is still fantastic.

    • @BjorkBjork-y4b
      @BjorkBjork-y4b 20 дней назад +1

@@SilverIV For starters, the number of enemies that have attack sequences where you can hit the point where you just lose all of your posture damage is vanishingly small, if they exist at all, and I don't even think they can do, unless you can provide good examples with explicit repetition of the effect from those you mentioned. Like, go watch Loopine's Rellana video. He had no trouble breaking her posture repeatedly. Secondly, if you are worried about that literally all you have to do is throw a dagger at them. And I straight up will not accept any ridiculous self-imposed nonsense about not using consumables/items to refute this, as a preliminary comment. Lastly, the pace of combat is so high that if you do experience this it is not at all difficult to get it back if you know what you're doing

Exploration is not all about what items you find, lots of the elden ring magic in exploring doesn't come from "oh i got this smithing stone" or "oh a new weapon" , it comes from seeing something in the distance and wondering how to get there to see what is there. Prime example of this was me entering Shadow Lands for the first time and seeing that giant Greek looking temple on the left side, it got my interest, only for me to get to it 35 hours later and to feel happy that i manged to get to it, yeah i got a new fight with dancing lion and a new spell but that feeling in unmatched because there is nothing pointing me there besides my own interest in the world, i don't have to go there, yet i choose to because im curious, its why i think Elden Ring's open world is perfect. It tries to interest you with its freedom and beauty and leads you to interesting places. Just as a fact that they hide abyssal woods and midra's manse and this entire secret remembarance boss behind a random dungeon that is very hidden makes finding that place so much more interesting, more than anything the older games could have done. I never got that feeling in Dark Souls, maybe when i found Ariamis for the first time but Elden Ring is that whole concept turned into a whole game and its why i think open world works so well for Fromsoft. So if you are reading this, you can probably guess that i completly disagree with your point on exploration. I don't think any game comes even close to this game's exploration, not even fromsoft's other work. You talked about Legacy Dungeons and i disagree with this point as well, not a single one is bad. They are all really fun places with their own unique atmospheres and interesting encounters. Finding the old lady in belurat just to realize she was the one that summoned the lion dancer was a very interesting discovery for me and it was something very unique. Castle Ensis is the best "Fort" type level in the whole game, its the longest and has the most interesting encounters and serves as a great early point for players, now i wouldn't say its fromsoft's best or anything but its far from being boring, let alone bad. Enir is quite liniar in its main path but its filled with secrets, finding Euporia on my first playthrough was really cool, it also helped that it suited my build. I will say that the underground area could have been longer but i think it serves its purpose and is quite fun(Maybe im biased since i love Putriescent Knight so much). When it comes to your boss critiques, i feel like im having a deja vu with people like you. Complaining again about not understanding the game at its core, and as much as i hate the "skill issue" buzzword of fromsoft fans, its 100% true here. I am no challenge runner, im a pretty average player and a slow learner but i always try to do something new when fighting bosses, i feel like people like you just keep doing the same thing while expecting different results. Prime example of this was you thinking that Bayle has no openings in the 2nd phase and as soon as you learned that you can dodge to the right and get a free punish every time, your world suddenly changed and your eyes were opened. This is the case with a lot of bosses, you can't just press L1 and let your problems go away, you have to think and get better at each fight and its what we wanted, people cried that elden ring was too easy, people wanted a challenge and they got it. Its how its always been with fromsoft DLCs, they are always the hardest part of each game. Now let me get to some of your more specific boss complaints, lets start radahn, i agree that there is too much visual clutter when fighting him and i agree that his "scissor" attack is too fast, esp in 2nd phase it can be too punishing but besides those 2 things i don't really have an issue with him(i only fought him twice on 2 different characters so my opinions may change), but i like his gimmick of having to fight him in his face so the light doesn't clip you, i think its a good gimmick that rewards you for playing agressive, its something that ER wants from you, posture mechanic is in the game for a reason. You also mentioned Rellana and how she never stops attacking but this is the thing, just because the boss is swinging doesn't mean you can never hit them, elden ring is designed around you attacking bosses during their attacks(Jumping, straffing, hitting before the delayed attack comes out), this all makes the combat feel more alive and fact paced, you don't need deflect or rally to make this work, you just have to play the game and realize that you shouldn't be waiting for the boss to stop, they will never stop and neither should you. You should always look for an opening(depening on your weapon, but this doesn't matter because you can get heavy R2s on every single boss in the game with the slowest weapon in the game). Also you talked about healing and this is a frankly quite stupid complaint, healing speed is completly fine. You just have to learn when to heal and stop chugging in front of the boss, people think this is DS3 where the bosses will just stand there and watch you heal, nope. There is a reason why there are so many delayed and slow attacks in between all those quick attacks and combos, its your room for healing/punishing a boss with a heavy attack and this is great, because unlike DS3 bosses ER bosses actually feel like they are fighting you, instead of letting you hit them after each dodge, its why people invest so much more time into mastering ER bosses, they are just a lot more satisfying and better designed. Also your difficulty complaint you breifly touched on, these games were never hard, neither is Elden Ring, they are all about knowledge and using that knowledge to get through a challenge(whether that is a gimmick or learning patterns), they have always been about patience and Elden Ring is no different. Fromsoft wants to challenge you and make you go through those challenges, because once you learn the boss and beat it, that feeling will be gone forever because now you've "gotten gud". Last thing i would want for fromsoft is to make another uninspired game like DS3 and just become stale, thankfully Elden Ring isn't that and it actually tries a lot of new stuff(for better or worse) and im glad it does because its going to be a remembered game for all the stuff it did good and all the stuff it failed at. I think that is what a masterpiece of game design is, something that stays with people and they keep talking about it. Dark Souls 3 and Sekiro for that matter are nothing like that, they are just good games and that is about it, they were forgotten faster than any other fromsoft game. I can get to other boss points you made but this comment is already too long, my browser is bugging out. Anyways that is pretty much it, you didn't really go into lore much(btw its amazing, esp all the NPCs and all the frenzied lore), but i doubt you did much research or put much effort.

Going from your amazing critiques of DS3 in your SL1 video to this was a real rollercoaster. I hope this video is bait so you can get your bread in a couple months by having "changed your mind" like others mention in the comments.
The heal critique, the Death Knight reskin, the "useless collectables" that YOU are CHOOSING not to use, the "difficult for the sake of being difficult" argument are all so disingenuous. You show in the video poorly timed heals done mid combos, the Death Knights are not reskinned as they have different weapons, attacks, AoW, etc. The useless rewards are tools you're refusing to use on your own volition which in turn makes the game harder making the "difficult for the sake of being difficult" fall flat.
The casual player will collect the items the game intends and use the spirit summons they are rewarded at the end of levels. YOU have a self imposed way of playing that isn't being rewarded as much as YOU want. You not enjoying this type of gameplay is fine but these is an intrinsic hypocrisy in your points that just make this "critique" feel very vapid.
I'm only writing this comment because of how GOOD your DS3 video was, it left me shocked that video and this one were made by the same person.

You run to the side, and jump at the right time over the third hit. If you do it correctly, the fourth hit will track you, while you're in the air, and not hit you, since you will already be on the ground before it can. The fifth hit then is super well telegraphed, and if you run towards her during the wind up animation, and dodge-roll towards her, you can even get a hit in.

Idk to me the game was screaming at me to use certain mechanics and yeah sometimes I don't but I'm not going to blame the game for that.
The DLC is screaming at you to try build switches by showering you in smithing stones and larval tears (it has more than the base game) and having bosses designed to counter OP base game builds and you admit you refuse to do it on principle saying that you gave in on the last boss and it forced you to build switch and you beat it within an hour.
The whole healing rant, the game wants you to use punish windows to heal and actively deters using distance to heal. You don't need a charged heavy window to heal, light attack windows in my dex build were plenty to heal. You admit you know this but say you refuse to do it and instead use 5 heals while taking damage on principle.
Thats on top of the not using summons, not getting all the shadow realm upgrades (a lot of the attacks you say 1 hit dont if you have the scadutree fragments) not using op builds, not crafting, not changing build to match the boss.
You dont want any new tools and then complain its the games fault you don't care about the new tools it throws at you and there is only 1 piece of loot you care about. You insist on playing under git gud restraints and a git gud build but then don't enjoy dying to the boss for 2 hours to learn the fight and actually git gud.
There is some valid criticism like the camera lock sucks and the visual spam is bad and the horse sucks. But a lot of this is just you self inflicting suffering, intentionally ignoring what the game is trying to communicate then blaming the game.

This guy just doesn't actually know when to heal. I love how as he says "you'll want to back out and heal", he shows a clip of Midra in phase 2 doing his signature combo which shoots a wave of fire outwards. But rather than rolling towards Midra's safe zone, he decides to roll out towards the direction of fire. I don't understand, even the most "casual" players could understand that rolling backwards in that situation is a bad idea. In the literal next clip with Messmer, why doesn't he just heal after dodging the spear? That's a huge window for you to heal but instead of taking the opportunity to heal he just runs away and lets Messmer do an attack? Why? The best part about that clip is that he can't use the argument of "I'd rather just attack rather than heal" because Messmer threw his spear from a distance so the only thing to do in that situation was to heal and yet my guy decides not to.
We got hard evidence that just because you're a challenge runner doesn't mean your points mean anything. How a "challenge runner" like someclaim him to be make such basic mistakes that the most casual players know on how to avoid. Also I want to mention why I love this dlc so you might understand the high praise its getting. The bosses are hard and you can't reasonably dodge every move because then it would become unfun. But the game gives you tools like summons, consumables, spells, incantations, etc to ease that difficulty and make the game fun (This is also where the importance of exploration comes in). People forget that elden ring is an rpg and more than any of their previous games.
An argument against this might be just make things simpler like in the older games. Make every attack reasonably to dodge. But that takes away from the fun of using the right gear to defeat the boss which other souls game can't replicate.
Elden ring is different from from's previous titles requiring the player to explore and use the tools they find to defeat bosses unlike in the previous titles where you could only use skill and be fine.
EDIT: I want to add, all from's games require trail and error. Elden ring actually could be the souls game with the least trail and error if you take advantage of all of the mechanics the game gives you. This is true in dark souls 1-3 (and maybe bloodborne) but those games didn't have as many mechanics as elden ring does because the bosses in those games were crafted in a way that they can be beaten with only dodging in mind. Elden ring wants you to do more than dodging because there are attacks that are almost impossible to dodge in the dlc and you did say trying to learn to ONLY dodge all the bosses wasn't fun. The reason why they want you to also use mechanics outside of the basic moveset ever player has (dodging, running, jumping, etc) is to incentivize exploration. It gives meaning to all those "useless" items you were talking about that filled the map. This new philosophy might not be your cup of tea but it is definitely mine and a lot of other people's.
Now SOTE isn't perfect and a I agree with a few of your criticisms. Enemies are reused a bit too much but from does put them in different situation to make stuff less repetitive (ex: ghostflame dragon near the enemy camp was a clever way to reuse that boss). The community is a mess too with the blind haters and fans (don't categorize me as an elden ring fanboy please I'm not a blind fan I'm just explaining why I love the game and trying to explain why some didn't). But I disagree with majority of you points.

      @falcoon_f_zero9450 21 день назад

The main problem with bosses having these basically impossible to avoid attacks and having stuff like summons to get around that is that you just don't reach a sweet spot with the bosses. They're either incredibly oppressive to fight 1 on 1 and being clipped by a single wrong attack could end a long fight instantly. Just ends up being tedious. But then if you summon for the boss the opposite happens where the boss just has trouble dealing with multiple enemies and gets bullied to death really fast, so the fight ends on a really lame tone. There's not many satisfying balanced fights that are intense but not too mean spirited towards the player so the DLC bosses just fall way short of the quality bosses older souls games had.

    • @SuleX00-ov5ip
      @SuleX00-ov5ip 21 день назад

@@falcoon_f_zero9450 can't relate with the summon point atleast with the dlc bosses. With every dlc remembrance I found summons to work perfectly with them. Bosses are more agro towards the player then summons so it never feels like the summon is only fighting the boss unless its sone purposely. Summons also feel pretty useless by themselves in the dlc so theres no point in doing that. You forget to mention how builds and ashes of wars can help counter certain attacks making bosses in elden ring more than a dodge and attack simulator. These bosses make you think how to approach them and explore the world for items that can help you counter them. This is why certain builds, ashes and items can make bosses significantly easier. When I get stumped by a boss in Elden ring I have a choice to come back later with better gear and items to beat the boss. This kind of design make bosses more interesting because it makes me think outside the box and gives me a more satisfying victory then bosses in previous entries. This also fits well with the open world design of the game because it incentivizes exploration.
It's the reason why I don't love gale as much as other people. Gale is an amazing fight and conclusion to ds3 but most of the fight is dodge-hit-repeat and the attacks are fairly easy to dodge. The fight looks cool but the gameplay is kind of boring if it's looked at individually. Third phase does introduce a few complex attacks but phase 3 is short.
Then there's consort rahdahn. While I was fighting him I absolutely hated the fight because I tried only dodging his attacks and not building any strategy to beat him. After awhile I took a more tactical approach to the fight. I found a lot of his attacks difficult to dodge especially is phase two attacks so I made a build that staggers him easily and also put bleed on my weapon to deal more damage. I used the ash of war lions claw which dealt a lot of poise and because its attack took awhile to perform I used malenias great rune (elden rings version of bloodbornes rally mechanic) to make tanking through his attacks easier. I also used mimic tear so they can deal some poise damage while rahdahn is aggroed towards me. This was my plan which sounds like it should make the boss a joke but the fight was still really hard. Around 20 attempts after I made this build I beat him and it was one of the more satisfying challenges I have overcame in a fromsoft game. In the beginning I absolutely hated this fight but at the end I absolutely love it. This fight is one of my favourite fights made by fromsoft because of the special design philosophy elden ring has.
Elden ring bosses designed around making the player explore the world to find items to create a strategy to beat a foe they thought was impossible is what makes them so much fun and other titles don't really have. This is what ds3 and bloodborne lack, most bosses are simply dodge and attacks without any thoughtful strategy required to beat making these fights less satisfying to beat then elden rings's. They are not bad fights, far from it but I do like elden ring bosses more.

@@SuleX00-ov5ip And I said several bosses feel incredibly overtuned without summons cause they seem to expect you to summon for them. There's even NPC summons put in front of most main bosses in the DLC. Problem is, the bosses are not balanced well in either direction. And there tends to be only very little choice with viable ashes of war or different spells for these boss fights as 90% of them are too slow to be used on them without trading damage yourself. And if you expect that the whole build should be respecced to something fitting for the boss then that's just stupid for an RPG like Elden Ring. I don't do that, I don't google cheese builds for bosses but a lot others have had to respecc to be effective on them. I talked about it being stupid to have attacks you basically have to google how to avoid since it's so impossible to tell how you're supposed to do it. It was first an issue with Malenia's waterfowl and now it's an issue in the DLC.
I can understand if you enjoy the bosses more like a puzzle where you have to figure out which tools and summons you should bring to capitalize on the bosses' weaknesses and bring them down. But for someone who just wants a straight on fight these bosses end up pretty disappointing.

Honestly I think part of the problem is that Miyazaki is trapped in the Dark Souls player character mind set.
One of the things I enjoy about Bloodborne is that your character feels like he belongs in that world but it still retains its difficulty because it doesn’t matter how fast your character is if you can’t figure out their pattern and react in time.
In Elden Ring, it feels like your playing a character that was designed for a slower game because they were.
As time went on, it feels like Miyazaki had less and less faith in the bosses’ attack patterns and just made them faster to compensate which I feel is the wrong approach because It ends up taking the fair out of “difficult but fair”.
Elden Ring has enemies that can cancel recovery frame to attack you if you heal, gives you one hit after every attack chain where before it was 2-3 even though they now have way more health, and since they refuse to update their code, you still have to deal with that input read delay when everything is fast enough to make this a problem.
Of course, this isn’t as much of a problem if you use Spirit Ashes but this is essentially the Life Gem solution of Dark Souls 2. They make the game mostly too easy and I end up thinking about how much better summoning in Dark Souls was since the summons were more of a help at best and were not worth the buff it gave bosses at worst.
I still enjoyed Dark Souls and Elden Ring but it feels like the games have remained stagnant when Bloodborne proves that they can make changes and succeed but seem to have lost that courage since then.

Well made video! But your arguments need some work:
    1. Your first argument is just one-sided. You constantly rant about how exploration gives you nothing yet there are a bunch of new weapons and spells that you can find, and if they dont fit your build just respec or accept that you werent lucky this time and keep exploring. Your stone-coffin fissure example proves my point more, since the dungeon itself gives rewards like the rings of light incant you get from the misbegotten or the amount of ghost glovewarts you get to try out new summons. And the reward at the end of the boss is the remembrance and the lore significance and the ability to progress thioliers quest that saint trina brings.
    2. Your dramatic oversimplification of belurat hurts me. It has the 2 ghost enemies the birds, the 2sworded horned warriors the greatsword horned warrior, the scorpions, the twinblade dancers, the tiny warriors and an invasion to the right. You also are rewarded for exploring here by being able to find a secret miquella cross and also a secret npc that can give you buffing consumables. The legacy dungeons arent as tiny as you say, yes they are smaller than the base game but i would gladly sacrifise the size so we dont have to go through something like raya lucaria.
    3. Your first argument is just a skill issue you can litterally heal right next to some bosses without being hit. 2nd.
Dying 100 times through trial and error to learn a boss is just what this game is about and if you dont like that this game isnt for you. Not showing the posture bar and not letting you revive makes thia game fun. We play games for those fun moments like getting that clutch poise break when you kind of made a mistake but it pays off or surviving that one hard to dodge attacks and getting that final hit. Having the certainty of "oh ill just res if i die here so ill just be dumb" or "let me just completely ignore the attacks so i can poise break him."
    4. Bro, this isnt an argument this is just "i dont like this game" this is an opinion. Play something else.
    5. Your dancing lion criticism is valid.
    (Midra is a dude)
Metyr's spells arent as bad as elden stars they are easy to dodge.
Gaius really isnt made for horeback riding but his hitboxes are a bit dumb
Rellana may be a bit too hard but she is made as a check to see if you are able to face the rest of the dlc. She is hard to make an impression and for immersion. The moon atk is easy to dodge if your experimental when learning the atk wich is something you should be doing
I cant say much about bayle since i did him on my 2nd try, but i know that you should basically only be hitting his head and i havent heard anyone else complain about the camera.
WHEN YOU NEED TO HATE, HATE RADAHN IS A DUMB*SS BOSS HIS FIRST PHASE IS FINE (the atk you complained about is actually pretty dodgeable if you dodge backwards) BUT THE 2ND PHASE MADE MY PC EXPLODE AND IS DUMB AS HELL @#! #@! #! @

This massively reduces frustration over not knowing whether you'll be safe to attack here. you need to keep fucking mental notes and start counting to 6 to know if you still hit for posture. That said, I can kinda see the argument. Not showing healthbars can sometimes be really nice since you don't know when that moment hits. However, I enjoy Sekiro much more than the already awesome Elden ring because it tells you if the poise damage you did is gone and the revive also means you dont have to sit through a bunch of waiting to get to try the boss again, you can just revive at the spot and keep practicing. If reviving would be a bit OP, you could always cut down on the amount of healing you have available. Sekrio only has 10 healing gourds after all, compared to ER's 14. The revive definitely doesn't let you be stupid, since there are so many points where trading and using the revive would be something someone does and you only get one revive per boss healthbar. As such, you still need to execute. The revive just makes it so that one big fuckup isn't going to iummediately send you back to the grace, and instead lets you try again. It lets you learn more easily what the boss can do, making learning the boss a much less frustrating couple hours.

You hit a good argument with the healing. This is a four-way problem:
    1. Bosses do a ton of damage.
    2. Bosses really don't want you to heal.
    3. Bosses have very large, complex movesets.
    4. Bosses have very unintuitive patterns sometimes obscured with too much flair
The problem with this is that you get killed early and learn very little with each battle. You can't fuck up a move, make distance, heal, process and then dodge it again, you don't get enough reps in on each try. This makes the experience boring for me because due to playing in the PS4 with less than stellar load times I spend most of my session looking at a bar getting filled. It would be very different if I got several chances at learning on each battle, then I was able to dive in right away.
By the way, increased load times came with the DLC. Before this I could die to Malenia and run back again instantly. Now I don't want to just sit staring at the screen to then scramble for openings to heal. I go Great Mace, Lion Claw, Spiky Tear, Blackflame Protection and just outtrade and break the anime twink flashing lights in my face.

And I was just gritting my teeth, grinding it out, wondering why I was forcing myself to do something so frustrating. I beat Radahn and I just didn’t even feel excited. I mostly agree with this video.
However i do disagree about the Putrescent Knight encounter. A good boss encounter’s reward should be the boss encounter itself. Regardless, you get a good side quest that gives a lot of context to the main story. That’s fine.
Another point i’d like to add is that there are so many new weapons and mist importantly, ones with unique movesets. This is something I’ve been missing in the base game and they definitely delivered here. This was probably my most favorite part of the DLC.
Rellana is a good boss. Her AOE is telegraphed and predictable, and (to me) it’s abundantly clear you can jump over the shockwaves. However I agree about the roll catch magic projectiles. That kinda blows but i still had fun nonetheless.
Actually, while we’re on that topic, why does ever single boss need to have a massive AOE explosion that covers the arena??? It’s so overused and some are incredibly annoying to predict as they “charge” up like I’m supposed to count with them. Either that or you flat out have to run away.. so boring.
I agree about the scadutree fragment system. I think it may have sounded good in concept but in execution finding them is a pain. Not only that, they’re not in excess and there’s no real way to tell where they are unlike the upgrade materials in the base game. I feel like the memory system like in sekiro is way better and is better applied here considering that bosses are usually at the end of these massive areas anyway. It would make subsequent playthroughs much MUCH better and just leave the exploration stuff for cool and interesting weapons/spells should people want to go looking for them.
I disagree with your point on Shadow Keep connecting other places being good in the DLC. In fact, I feel that due to the open world nature of the game, bottlenecking entrances to large area through a specific hidden wall behind a waterfall down an obscure ladder in a dungeon is not the way to go. I do agree with your suggestion as well though because you’d basically be describing Ashina Castle and I fw that.
The final boss is stupid. It’s just… not good.
Despite all the snobby reddit video essayist attitude stuff i think I agree with a lot of the points in this video and summed up a lot of my own feelings with the DLC. I disagree with some of the points you make but I share your sentiment.
Overall I still enjoyed the DLC, I’d even call it good - but it’s not the Fromsoftware standard of good I was expecting and for that I am very disappointed.

This is 100% opinionated takes and not facts so im gonna be trying to counter them with a mix.
Calling elden ring or the DLC a wasteland is absolutely laughable, do you enjoy ubisoft padding with "gather 5 herbs for me".
Being hard for the sake of being hard? You mean like every single game in the GENRE which includes sekiro. It was always made to be hard because they wanted it to be a hard game this point is completely missing the idea of souls-like games.
There are only two death knights in the whole game so your entire point on that is factually wrong.
You don't just get a cookbook from it, you can also do st. trinas quest. You can call it boring if you want but what you said there is still wrong.
"The bosses movesets make the game boring because I don't have time to use flasks between each attack" is basically what you are saying. If you learn the attack patterns you can legit heal once every 1-2 moves that the bosses do (there are multiple runs on bosses which proves this)
The only bosses in the DLC that I found harder than other souls games was radahn and messmer. Orphan took me more tries than messmer and Radahn is the LAST boss for a DLC that is meant for endgame builds (since you need to beat mohg for it).
Saying that you don't find it fun when you can't heal and then saying that using summons aren't fun because you skip the bosses moveset which you call "boring" is extremely contridictory.
The DLC added many new OP weapons and builds so that you are able to prepare better for Radahn.
Let me list things that you can use:
    Summons (npc or player)
Tree fragments (it does not take long to find the majority of them)
Talismans that are resistant to specific attacks from specific enemies. They added an even higher level of resistance and stamina talismans.
    Leveling (obvious)
It is just blind hate to call something bad because you aren't happy that a souls-like endgame DLC has hard bosses. It is pretty clear you got mad at fromsoft fans and started to say that the game or DLC is bad because of it.

Did Malenia allow you to use over 10 points in her second phase? No, because that would make you able to facetank a lot of her attacks and still manage to win in certain builds.
