XCOM2 - General Advice & Tips

- Note: Video's old! I've added some annotations with new(ish) information about ways in which the game has been changed or bugs have been fixed. For example, weapon upgrades should now transfer to new weapons as you research them, mimic beacons have been nerfed, Killzone doesn't work through concealment anymore, etc.
The feeling you get when everything goes right in this game is amazing.
I had an hour long attrition match with quite a few enemies, I lost nobody and I never felt prouder of my squad. Then the next mission one of them died in one shot lmao
I know, right? It makes you feel like you can walk on water!
When it all goes wrong though and your favorite soldier dies, it's devastating lol
OpTiOn SeVeN I had a 98.3% accuracy mission last night with zero deaths (all critically wounded).
I do play on lowest difficulty, but man was that a long mission!
I can't say that I've ever known that feeling in XCOM.
If you grenade the floor from under an enemy they will take 3 damage, but a turret will automatically be destroyed.
THANK YOU
Thanks
Good thing, because you can only grenade the floor.
Great tip, just discovered this does NOT work on train cars
Damn this is some old school r6 frag cooking I love it
This has to be the best tip video I have seen for XCOM2. Smartly done and well narrated.
Excellent Job!!!
Yup! Lots of detail and information went into making the video.
The best tips for XCOM2: use MIMIC beacons, and manipulate the AVATAR countdown timer. Do not attack any alien "factories" until only 3 or 4 days before you lose the game. Use that extra 17 days to continue upgrading equipment/soldiers. MIMIC beacons should be researched and created as soon as possible, they can save your entire team.
I loaded up X Com 2 and played for about 2 hours... honestly I was a little over-whelmed. This video made it clear that I just need to try a little harder and not be intimidated by all the options. Great content - even 6 years later! thanks. I think if I get "in the groove" with the game I'll love it, but I am finding it hard. I'll get there, its just going to be a little harder than my usual Skyrim run....
Hey. I’m a bit late, so hopefully you didn’t uninstall 😂 keep in mind that the beginning of the game is when your squad is weakest. Really focus on cover and when you’re pushing up, never go straight to the dash area (yellow movement squares) go to the blue area first to see if there’s any patrols then move up. This will help you avoid accidentally activating pods and it’s something that was really brutal for me when I started.
A quick tip about Psi Operatives: Remember that these guys don't level up like normal soldiers, meaning that when they kill an alien instead of a soldier, they are starving the rest of your squad of that experience. This means that you do not need to rush getting your Psi Operative, as having them on the battlefield early not only starves your soldiers of much-needed exp, but you have also spent considerable resources into researching and building Psi Facilities when you could have spent them in more efficient ways. They're definitely cool, and a great endgame squadmate that opens up your tactical options in literally dozens of ways. But they are also incredibly expensive, and as mentioned, should only be seen as a luxury.
Overwatch traps become less useful later in-game, as enemies are often tougher to kill. An overwatch trap generally is good for wiping out entire pods--at least most enemies in a pod. If you are trying to do an ambush on enemies with a total group health that can feasibly survive your group damage output (with at least 1 miss taken into account), then you are better off not doing it and instead spending your soldiers' turns defeating them with strategy rather than tactics (and there is a difference).
Like many turn-based RPG's, there is something known as an "Action Economy". This is essentially the number of actions a group can take versus the number of actions the opposing group can take. In XCOM, your soldiers are far weaker than characters in other RPG's, meaning that while you'll usually have nearly twice the number of actions as a single pod, you still have to be careful when playing against them, as a singly lucky shot can kill your best soldiers. This is also very important to note that if you encounter more than 1 pod at once, you are immediately outnumbered (even though their Action Economy is going to be roughly the same at this point), especially when the question of Sectopods is involved. This is because the game is actively trying to kill you with deadly attacks that can easily match (and even exceed) yours. So when making calculations, make sure to lower their Action Economy at all costs. This means enemies such as the Sectopod and the Codex can become serious threats, as they potentially can add a serious amount of Actions against you if not handled correctly (and the Codex also limits your actions with their vortex of doom).
Flashbangs work on Codexes (Codexi?) very efficiently. Pretty much all of their powers are immediately shut down (I have also seen them consistently travel in pods with Sectoids, so the benefit of shutting these guys down while in concealment right off the bat is almost always my strategy when in formations like this). They can't teleport, use their vortex of doom, or duplicate themselves, making them simply fat Advent soldiers for 2 turns.
Bladestorm pretty much makes you a Chryssalid-and-Faceless Hunter. When you know they're on the field, stack overwatch and Threat-Assessment onto them, and they become a walking juggernaut during Chryssalid and Faceless raids. Paired with Implacable, they are unstoppable against those things.
Psionic Phazon you got alot of points. in short: never give advent a chance to shoot back, and never try to pull 2 pods
黃宇豪 Yes! Exactly, Lelouch! Haha
Psionic Phazon I ensured my strategic victory over the advent coalition. They may have superior weaponry, but that's no match of my masterful awesomeness
黃宇豪 Then the task at hand has been cleared.
Psionic Phazon w
Waw, for a 40 minutes long video, I was expecting a 40 minutes long disappointment. But oh boy oh boy how wrong I was. In these 40 minutes you covered more than everyone could think of, want from and would hope to get in an entire series. Good job, you won yourself a subscriber and you convinced me to see at least 1 more of your videos, just out of curiosity in matters of quality.
+Mini Meepo Agreed - I was totally surprised at the usefulness of this video. +AbeClancy should do more of these.
Now, THIS is Advice and Tips. In about 40 minutes you explained more than people that have 1 and half hour long videos on XCOM 2.
Well done and Thanks!
although this video may be old it is extremely helpful for somebody whose going to buy the collection edition of the game big thanks
Seeing the face that you are going to buy the game let's me know I'm not the only one looking at this stuff xD
I agree. This will be a big help when my game finally finishes downloading
I've played through xcom2 twice now but still learned a few things from this video. Thank you for taking the time to post this. It will be great for a beginning player
The last 20 seconds of the vid was the most enlightening part for me... I had no idea
An excellent video made by a professional gentleman. Thanks to you i was able to quickly turn a devastated campaign to equal footing, then become very strong toward the end. You're awesome!
It’s 8/24/2020 n this is BY FAR one of the best starting tips type videos for xcom 2! Thanks so much man!
Blademaster adds +10 aim and +2 damage to sword attacks, and can be very deadly
fantastic video. i’ve played this game on several platforms and just recently started on the switch. watching these tips is bringing back a lot of strats i had forgotten about and a Bunch i never knew! 🙏 Thank you!
Wow, Abe. That was a really in-depth general guide. You really deserve more views and attention! Especially because your strategical thoughts.
I would advise posting it in reddit to live up some discussions on your thoughts. Also, I do believe that any sort of timestamps (in description, like ranger thoughts/talents at XX:XX time, and so on ) would be greatly received for us, viewers.
I gotta say mate, hats of to you! I've played ALL the x-com games and for some reason X-com is the hardest for me. Had no trouble with the old games, but this one tears me apart. So this video really helped me out a lot :-) Thanks mate :-)
I just started the game Yesterday. That's just amazing!
I also just started and oh man it is
It's awesome can't believe I overlooked it before roll on xcom 3
Great tips + annotations for irrelevant ones = 10/10, well done Commander.
This is the single best video I’ve seen for beginners! Direct, in depth and useful!
This is the best video for tips on XCOM2 that I've watched. Thank you very much!
This is very detailed and informative, thank you! This is packed full of great tips for new players like me!
Great video, very underrated! Found a lot of useful info here many big reviewers missed. Thanks!
One of the best videos on xcom i seen so far..... :D
You said to ask if we want to know about something. ...
how about making a video on the best way to counter an enemy type...like....sectoids with swords... a gatekeeper with acid bombs... codex with flashbangs ....ahmm ....or the best way to take down a sctopod... with shredder rupture shots then EMP bomb and hack...things like that coz i feel you like a bit of strategy :)
Wait. I'm a little mad that people only came to watch this video. Your content is awesome man.
2021 Your video is the only good video I found on vanilla Xcom 2. Great guide thanks mate
It's also old as hell! I'm sure they've fixed the whole corrupted campaign save file bugs that made ironman a cointoss as to whether you could continue your game, for instance!
There is one thing I wanted to say (it's an old-ass video, I already know)
But going Blademaster early on helps immensely because Sectoids very easily tank two-shots but can easily be taken out with just a frag and a sword attack (at least on normal difficulty, haven't tried out higher difficulties yet).
Keep in mind that Blademaster is giving you the equivalent of jumping you (in terms of sheer damage output) all the way to the very end of the Research that benefits swords, in other words, you get to swing around a Fusion Blade before you even know it exists yet. Not to mention, you encounter Advent Stun Lancers very early on, so you can have your squad get carried in terms of damage output by a Ranger swinging around an Arc Blade that deals 6-8 damage while you're still waiting for the Magnetic Weapons research to get finished, AND THEN wait for the Gauss weapons research.
Not to mention, Slash is actually really good for cracking down on beefier enemies that are hiding behind high cover that your Sniper can't get a decent shot at.
Because the Advent MEC, most Turrets, and unarmored enemies cannot stand up to that near guaranteed hit high damage output early on, making it great for cleaning up an enemy that may have been stressing your front line out because they can't get a good angle on that enemy that would have required them to expose themselves, or they'd have to burn both movements to keep themselves safe from the rest of the enemy team but still end up exposed to the enemy they were going after in the first place.
If you can take over some good cover with the movement you get from Slash, it is excellent for advancing on the enemy, so long as he has other people backing him up and helping him remain safe like an Overwatching Heavy or a Sniper in Kill-Zone, and because the enemy AI will probably want to reposition to take advantage of the slightly "overextended" ranger, Kill-Zone snipers will be able to take heavy advantage of the AI trying to punish them.
Awesome video. I have been looking for something like this for weeks. Very well done.
Dr. Jeffrey L. Jackson woah, a teacher that plays video games? Nicee
Amazing video even in 2022.
The overwatch/ambush now doesnt work anymore (the 3rd type, arround 22:30 into the video), but all the other tips help a lot.
Thank you!
I would like to thank you for this very useful information. You may have just saved countless players from losing sanity.
I like that u mention granadiers take longer time to level up. So how it works basickly granadier is initiator either trow granade or fires first on enemy to shred armor so he doesnt get exp from kills. Good advice is to watch for low hp enemies and try to finish them with granadier if u can.
Great video man! I'm about 30 hours into Xcom 2 & this taught me SO much I still didn't know.
Thanks for the video. I didn't know you could free respec. I did a boss fight that was Very Difficult with half my team wounded and only starter weapons and no clear understanding but save scumming eventually after 3 hours I got it done. But a few missions later some more dead team members and really struggling I put the game down for a week.
I then changed the difficulty to Rookie and started thinking about my approach a bit more not that I wasn't before but the game doesn't explain what you are doing wrong.
Now I built the Command Relay 💪 and attacked successfully 2 black sites, have magnetic weapons and the better armor so rocking along quite nicely. 😊
But I think I will spend a little time respeccing especially my Rangers and Specialists. I use Spark as my main tank I just hold him back until the shit hits the fan often parking my Grenadier or Ranger behind it because he gives full cover bonus.
Thanks for the video.
Best XCOM 2 video I have seen. You are very articulate. Subbed.
This should be added as an in game tutorial, well ******* done!
being rather new to XCOM, but loving it all the same, this vid hecka helped :D
I was devastated by the difficulty level of this game. After this video i feel so much more confident. Ty very much.
Wow, this video is a WEALTH of great XCOM tips - Nice work fella! :D
Best guide of Xcom2 on the internet! very detailed and complete
If you care you may want to add the blademaster now gives 10% aim on sword attacks. Mostly making them guaranteed as well as the increased damage. Whenever they made that change is when i actually tried a blade ranger :P
Kind of makes all the reservations about swords go away :P
We need a fantasy rpg in the xcom style.
Closest we have has been the Fire Emblem series, imo.
I've got news for my dude. If you haven't already heard Divinty original sin 2 is getting a XCOM facelift. Divinity 2 Fallen Heroes
@@liquidchameleon5993 O: Seriously? I had not heard. Time to go RUclips it
@@SessmaruKusanagiGaming Have you looked up? What do you think?
I'm throwing money at my phone and nothing's happening!!
This was very helpful! Now i know why my run went off in a wrong direction
I love this game but it's kinda hard
yup its a big boy game
Had to restart the game after 20-30+ hours three times already. There was a LOT I didn't know. Love the game as well, but I haven't raged this bad at losing since Darkest Dungeon.
@@rodneyabrett I feel you and your comment do hard right now.. AUGH. WHY.
@@rodneyabrett im now starting my 4th campaign on rookie, W T F they get too strong and i just miss some of the things here explained
yeah its stupid fucking hard.
Still awsome 8 years later
great vid to help me get back into this gem. thanks for the share
Incredible tips for beginners at xcom2, thanks
Oh my God. Mimic beacons have saved my ass so many times. It’s a godsend. Always have a mimic beacon on you.
playalots 75 supply is a pretty high price to pay
Just build one and keep it on you just on case. Gods know when you'll get overwhelmed by enemy forces and need a turn not getting damaged.
Thank you for this video! Most just tell me that it's only one way , you give the players tools to use while letting them learn trial by fire. The best way to make good players😉
Jezuz, so much info, had to watch this 5 times. Fuckin fantastic job sir.
Thanks man I appreciate it I been looking for tips and information of how the game work.. thanks again.
Hey, maybe i misunterstood some stuff you said, but i'm pretty sure you don't need to save good weapon mods like superior extended mag for plasma weapons. I did just to be safe since i was still at ballistic sniper rifles while other classes had magnetic, so i didn't put extended mags on it or scopes or anything, but i had already put a hair trigger on it accidentally, so i then upgraded to magnetic sniper rifle and the hair trigger was still there. I don't know if the ballistic to magnetic switch is different to the magnetic to plasma switch, but in theory you don't need to save mods up, just slap everything you have on every gun (well, with some conditions, of course, for instance free reloads are better than extended mags for specialists, they're roughly just as powerful for rangers and are worse for snipers and grenadiers (i can see the point of free reloads for snipers because you can't reload and shoot, but kill zone and series, the two most powerful long range sniper skills, are dependant on the number of rounds in the mag).
Amazing video, I learnt heaps!
Also you sound Australian when you say "part" @38.15 haha
Great guide, clear voice and direct info w/ no rumble :P
Can't t believe the advice I got the most out of was the waypooints one xD
OMG, the waypoint thing is awesome!
Thx for for this thorough video. Much appreciated :)
Turns out ammo works on pistols from sharpshooters, helped me out so much
Hello, brand newish to Xcom2. Have it on GoG, looking for modding tips and general strategies. You said you made mods? Which ones You recommend?
XCOM 2 = One HELL of a fine sequel!
Sad that it didn't perform as Firaxis had hoped, it's a beautifully designed tactical action game.
....Hope we see more of this type of title on console, but with different game-world contexts, maybe (WWII for instance)
@AbeClancy will you do one of these for WOTC?
This is a great guide and info drop pool and has helped me astronomically!
Also will you cover Xcom 3 which similar content to Xcom 2 when it inevitably comes out in 2020/2021?
Still super disappointed it's 2024 and no news on XCOM 3.
Probably won't happen until 2026/2027 now.
Whoa...thanks for that bud. Can't say that I've seen anyone else cover soldier abilities in such depth.
PS4 free game of the month!
Amazing video man! Thank you for your help! 💯🤘🏻
Do weapon upgrades stay if you update weapons.
As in..i put clip on badic sniper rifle and stay on if i upgrade to mag rifle ?
Just lost my first game. I do hope this video which is great will help me this time up.
Really helpful but I did a lot of stuff early on where I should have waited like a lot to f weapon researching instead of armor first and the psi operative without having even having the facility to build them first 😷😷 and managing the engineering stuff too like stacking to make excavations faster and stuff ... Overall great stuff will keep on mind for next play through , game is awesome 🤓🤓
I'm late to the game being a console user. Even later since I'll be getting the game this weekend. That being stated, I've been looking forward to Xcom 2 the moment I heard it was coming to console. I've been looking for a good strategy game to play and I believe this will be to my liking. Thank you for all the info. I'm sure it will make the campaign a little less difficult for someone picking it up for the first time. Thanks a lot.
I've come from Enemy Unknown/Within. If you've played that game at all, be prepared to have your ass kicked the first time you play it, because the entire strategy both on and off the battlefield has changed dramatically, despite having roughly the same rules (move, shoot, build, save the planet, be happy). Bear that in mind as you go through the game on your first playthrough. I got wrecked playing on Normal my first time (I had a particularly hard time figuring out the strategy layer of the game, not understanding quite how the World Map worked).
I wish there was a similar guide for WotC. Perfect guide all around
God I love this game so fun and challenging.
I also got kill zone on my specialist. What abilities work best with him to make him your mvp?
Lightning reflexes is a perk for snipers its a free pistol shot
David Irizarry Wrong lighting reflexes if you are spotted on an overwatch shot it will miss
Lightning Hands is the name, I believe.
Absolutely brilliant video. Well done and thank you. So packed with deep level info. Do you fancy doing a video on strengths and weaknesses of the enemy. This is really hard info to come by?
very good man keep up the work! Maybe an playthrough next ?would be cool.
Great tips..had no idea about flashbangs
This game is beautiful, pls help me, any mods you recommend to a novice? I´m using long war smg and alien pack which seems so fun and op, international voices, full char customization and capnbubs accesory pack. Should I remove some of these and add different mods?
Actually quite helpful, and now I am forced to choose between Heavy Ordnance or Holo-Targeting in WotC. Between the Chosen, the alien kings and the regular bosses I really want gunner grenadiers. Shredder, Holo-Targeting, Chain Shot and tracer rounds make for an excellent opening salvo against a hard target.
And yet I love the manifold grenades, and want extra uses for them. Flashbangs, EMPs and the Acid/Incendiary/Toxic grenades offer such wondrous AoE utility I really could use.
I guess 1-2 gunners for Chosen hunting, and the rest will bring the artilly to the street firefight. It is impressive how they turned my least favourite class into my favourite core class. I shall contrast it with the psi operative for utility.
Looks like I'm 5 years late to the party. I'm on console too, which has a lot of drawbacks. I'm excited to play. Thinking about making Task Force 141 😂
Hold control for waypoints!?!?!?
That's game changing....
Are all of these tips applicable to war of the chosen, or are there additional tips for that expansion?
People are so opinionated about this game, especially classes. I learned new stuff in this video.
thanls for the advices I died 5 time in the tutorial
I used to play on Commander a lot simply because I wanted a challenge. I decided to play on Veteran for a change and I was so surprised to find out that the soldiers received significantly fewer secret skills compared to Commander difficulty. I have several fully ranked soldiers without any secret skills at all.
Another weird thing that happened is that a disoriented soldier took a shot, then my specialist proceeded to remove disorientation using the revival protocol and the soldier received 2 action points and was able to move and take another shot. I tested this once more just to confirm. Not sure if a bug or a feature.
did he have 2 actiion points before the disorientation?
Thanks for the video. Is there any place in-game that denotes how many actions points etc. that all these options take? It's freaking hard to keep track of all this stuff!
I should have watched this video BEFORE PLAYING, I already LEARNED all these tips VIA EXPERIENCE DANG IT
but also I still didnt know A LOT and this vid has HELPED A LOT
I do not want to spoiler myselve to much so I cannot dig very deep for my answer... the avatar... is it possible to "hold" the avatar project at one spot to play "forever"?
Because I want like in xcom 1 to build up more than one good squad, research everything and so on...
or do I have to stop it at one point and the game is done?!
You got it: Don't do the last research project in the Shadow Chamber and the game will never end.
amazing thx
First try I couldn't get the right dead bodies for the first armor upgrade
Second try I got codexes in the loop too fast too soon and lost someone to them every mission
On this run I've been straight up ignoring the bat phone every time the resistance is attacked unless it's in an alien facility area and I've had to live off the black market for money.
Any advice before I make another run themed around a recurring mistake?
Hey hey Abe, I Luv you. This video helped a lot, thanks.
Just bought this game. Hope it's good.
SurferHawa thoughts on it 11 months after?
"After destroyuing the relays, you can just evac, it may say incomplate but you still get the bonuses, just not the corpse loot"
YOU WHAT????
Another tip: always equip your medic with healing kit (obviously) and skulljack. Make sure you have the +3 movement speed (or better) implant. The specialist will be able to "one-shot" any enemy officer, even the 15 health slot advanced troopers (and sometimes get good INTEL, but that is secondary to killing the enemy soldier).
Specialists with the Skulljack become Wolverine level of deadly in melee all of a sudden.
Ok nice and all but how do I get through the first 5~10 missions when I don't have access to all these fancy things. I loose two soldiers every mission because the alien sprints towards my squad and one-shots or two shots my guys
Oh, I didn't realize the mimic beacon spawns a "soldier" that the enemy will attack. That's going to be super useful for my commander compaign, thanks dude!
is there a reason that your video doesnt provide example vids after half way done?
Intresting. Not sure whats happening in that save file, A Ranger carrying a plasma Assault Rifle in the start meny.
When would it be a good time to build the proving ground ?
I once got a grenadier with ever vigilant... so OP
What’s the best team build? I used all specialists and did well. Except for the last three avatars I can never defeat.
is the assault side on ranger really worth it ? i have the mod accurate swords (makes sword always hit attacks which makes sense) so should i chose that side or scout?
+phantom feenix
You know, I actually don't use Sword Rangers because a) their shotgun usually has a higher chance to hit, and b) some enemies can dodge or counterattack the sword. But in the most recent patch of the game, 100% chances to hit will no longer allow enemies to dodge the attack, which half deals with point (b) above. And, if you are using a mod to improve sword accuracy to 100%, that deals with points (a) and the rest of (b) at the same time.
I think in such situations, a Sword Ranger can help tremendously, but I think they would perform best on Retaliation missions and some of the story missions that tend to feature Chryssalids, Faceless, or Stun Lancers. Since Chryssalids can attack on YOUR turn when you activate them, move a couple soldiers forward in to Overwatch (or just use a LongWatch Sniper), then move the Ranger forward to trigger the Chryssalids and have a pretty good chance of a kill with guaranteed, undodgeable sword hits.
Implacable and Bladestorm are mutually exclusive, which is a shame because they are both good skills on a Sword Ranger.
With Untouchable and Implacable working to your advantage, you can use your Ranger aggressively against the clock to get a 100% kill, then move them to a position to intercept melee units or tank a shot with a guaranteed enemy miss. Or, replace Implacable with Bladestorm to take sword attacks at enemies moving in to melee range of the Ranger. A Bladestorm Ranger can also take care of enemies in two hits guaranteed (with your mod): Sword attack a high-HP enemy that moves away to cover on their turn, (Advent Trooper, Officer, Shieldbearer, Sectoid, Muton) and your Bladestorm will activate, landing another blow before they can get to cover... As long as your Ranger doesn't panic or die from another enemy before they get a chance to land their sword. I'm not sure if Mutons can still counterattack with 100% chance to hit swords, and many enemies are happy to be out of cover, including MECs, Sectopods, Gatekeepers, Stun Lancers. I'm not sure if these enemies attacking a DIFFERENT unit triggers Bladestorm, or if the enemies have to attack the Ranger itself. If Bladestorm triggers on any attack at any target, then you can run them right up to MECs and be nearly assured of the kill. You won't get Untouchable though.
I'd wager Bladestorm would be more effective than Implacable on a Sword Ranger. One additional movement doesn't mean all that much since you can control the square your Rangers runs to to use their sword attack. You can just place them behind cover in most situations.
I'd still recommend taking Conceal over Run and Gun so that you can continue to use your Sword Ranger as a scout, using them as a ninja to take out an enemy and take a guaranteed enemy miss when you need it. Run and Gun doesn't do anything after you use the initial sword attack, so you can't chain it to do two attacks in one turn. So I would take Conceal for the tactical advantage, in allowing you to push forward.
Overall, the only things you lose out on with a Sword Ranger is some shotgun accuracy when Concealed (but 100% sword hits), some "charges" of Concealment, and Rapid Fire. But you have a sword that you will actually use instead of only use when you are desperate or out of ammo. And Reaper with guaranteed 100% hits means you can kill multiple low health enemies with your Ranger's turns. Great for taking care of split Codexes, or any non-Gatekeeper/Sectopod pod that survives a plasma grenade to the face.
I'm still undecided about the 100% chance to hit swords. But maybe it is the balance they need, because as-is I don't use the swords basically at all. All this is just my 2-cents and untested, so take it with a grain of salt, I might be horrendously wrong here, I never use the sword so I don't know!
irou95 well i think that mod makes sense because how would you miss a sword attack.
phantom feenix it's a game about fighting aliens that sit and accept their fate when you walk next to them to shoot with a shotgun.
and yeah it's supposed to simulate like it's happening real time just with turn based formula. and yeah you can miss a sword attack if the enemy just moves quickly (they just don't do that because it's turn based game)
i hope your mod makes stun lancers and other melee enemies also hit 100% ???
In Enemy Unknown, melee attacks never miss, and they shouldn't, why would you take the risk of running right next to an enemy if you're just going to miss, when you could just flank them and fuck them up with a shotgun? Melee that misses doesn't make sense game design wise. It'd be different if he had a mod that made ALL weapons hit, THAT'S cheating. But making melee attacks always hit makes sense, IRL, and in a game like this.
However I will agree it's unfair if the mod only makes YOUR attacks be 100%, and not the enemy melee weapons.
Samuel Lacey 100% in xcom doesn't support the right style of play. if enemy has like 2 health across the map and you are getting flanked from 2 directions. then you can just run to that 2 health guy with a sword and 100% kill him (otherwise you would stay in a flank for him and take a risky 40% shot if he's in full cover)
and saying in xcom: ew they were always hits.
Well the arc thrower was almost like a melee weapon and you didn't have 100% that made it interesting and had to have a plan b or otherwise risking a catastrophe.
And the most important difference between ew and 2 is that in ew you had to be in the are of the first action point to use melee 100% so the best solution for the same logic would be that if the enemy is in your first actionpoints area then it's 100% and if it's further ahead than that it would have a hit change. (that would make bladestorm and reaper op anyway)
Great video man. Especially as I picked this up for 12 pounds over the weekend 😀
Not sure how this ended up uncorrected but you can puts mods on any tier of weapon and it will carry over to (become) the next one.
Also exposed power coil can be anywhere in the bottom 2 or maybe 3 levels.
Back when XCOM 2 first came out, there was a bug where mods wouldn't always carry over on future weapons. In my first campaign, I didn't get a single mod to carry over, so I just assumed that it was normal behavior!
How awesome would it have been if they had a mini game to where the Avenger has been infiltrated by a singular high level alien and you have to search the ship with a squad and whip it out before it starts killing personnel or sabotaging the ships systems.
That would be pretty cool, having one of your soldiers being infected or replaced. Creating a scare factor, it would be pretty cool XD
it would also give players another perspective on the avenger and XCOM's operations.
