    The instrument panel looks even better if you paint Gloss Varnish on the dial faces to represent glass.

    Late marks are the most graceful ones, you delivered a beautiful build of it.

    Always so nice to enjoy my last coffee ☕ of the day while learning something from the bonus historical content (also rumored to make coffee taste 20% better)👍

    Just purchased a DVD about the R.A.F. in the ‘50s, one of the clips shows Spitfire Mk.XVIII’s of 60 Squadron carrying out what may have been some of the last operational combat flights of the Spitfire’s career with the R.A.F., ground attack missions against insurgents during the Malayan Emergency.

      Slightly after the last missions by the FAA with the Seafire FR.47, so definitely the last offensive use of the entire Spitfire/Seafire range.

    There is or was another 1/48 Spifire XVIII kit, the NZ company, Falcon Models released a vac-form kit with (AFAIR) white metal parts and decals by Ventura. Sadly it is no longer produced, but it was generally counted as a very good kit for it's time. 1980s thru about 1992.

    I’ve learnt alot Gary this week I always thought all later Mks of spitfire had the clipped wings ,great result too mate ,all the best ,Mark

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  2 года назад +1

      Cheers Mark! Many later Spitfires did have the LF clipped wing - on some it was to avoid control reversal in a fast dive, but that was cured with the stiffer wing on the Mk.21.

    The way drybrushing pops out the detail is almost magic. The parts fit is really impressive and the detail is begging for attention.
    You're right -- it's very sleek. I suspect that is enhanced by the longer Griffin engine. I have the contra-rotating propeller version in my stash. Maybe it's time to blow off the dust and enjoy the straightforward build.
    Cheers!

      Is that the FR.47 kit? If so, it's not based on the same tooling, it harks back to 1996 so the build will be different... I have done one but about three years ago - maybe four - so pre-RUclips!

    Gary your cockpit instruments always look great :) Googling images of Spitfire cockpits it seems they changed between marks, which is a pain in the proverbial, and there was no consistency in colours (throttle handle was red or white apparently :)). I did notice one or two were yellow though as well as red, which you may find helpful :)

    yes, i did enjoy this build. It is very interesting kit and i was really interested how you built this Spitfire.

    Hi Gary, hope you are well.
    How about the following models that is loooong overdue and hasn't been produced by Airfix that I know of. 1. Avro Manchester Mk1 and Mk2 in 1/72 scale.
    2. Avro Lincoln in 1/72 scale.
    3. Bristol Brigant in 1/72 and 1/48 scale.
    4. EE Lightning two seater T6 I think in 1/48 scale.
    5. De Haviland Vampire T11 in 1/48 scale.
    I thank you.

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  2 года назад

      Some excellent suggestions there. I think the Vampire T.11 is the most achievable as the way the F.3 kit has been designed it could be easily adapted with new tooling. The Lincoln and Manchester are eternal wishes, fairly easy to achieve and they have 3D scanned the Lincoln at Cosford - although they swear it isn't because they are doing a kit of it. Or is that a double bluff???

    Re the nose colour. Did you consider painting it all one colour and then masking of the yellow or black?

    • @garys_stuff
      @garys_stuff  Год назад +1

      I did consider it. Then thought better of it. It's why the good lord saw fit to give us MicroSol.

    Great video, Gary, and subbed! BTW, the cover just in front of the cockpit (for glycol?) is indeed clever engineering by Airfix. Harry Houdini (a fellow Australian) details a fix for this 'loose' fit (as well as the wing root gaps) in his review of the Mk XIV.

    On the finished model: I love the way you DIDN'T weather it (save for propellor blades). Too many models I've seen have had overdone weathering. Why not something fresh from the factory! Well done!
