  • On Tuesday, May 21, 2024, MPT members and viewers joined us for a virtual screening and presentation of Woodpecker Wars. Meg Smolinski, Outreach Coordinator for the University of Maryland Arboretum and Botanical Gardens, educated attendees about how the UMD Arboretum and Botanical Gardens work to promote the University’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable practices and connect this to the global impact each of us can have.
    About the Episode
One of the most inspiring conservation stories in American history is playing out on, of all places, a live-fire training ground at an Army base in North Carolina. There, an improbable alliance gives a special bird-the endangered red-cockaded woodpecker (RCW)-a new lease on life.
