You should listen to Paul singing Monkberry Moon Delight from his Ram album. Also Back Seat of my car from same LP. He’s the man of a thousand voices. Thanks for the video.
McCartney has the greatest vocal range of any singer! It's crazy to think he recorded Yesterday and I'm Down in the same recording session is just ridiculous!
He can change his colour so well as heard in Lady Madonna. He has unbelievable range in songs like Maybe i'm amazed, Oh! Darling and I've got a feeling. On top of that as a songwriter him and John are still among the greatest ever. I think as a singer Paul is really underrated. He has a couple of song like those I mentioned and many more that almost impossible to cover, similar to Bon Jovi in his prime.
One Hand Clapping is a Wings rehearsal video. So I think it's safe to presume that these are different live takes spliced together. While it could be lip-synched in places, I doubt it. The beginning is clearly him playing and singing. When the organ kicks in, that I believe is superimposed audio to help the transition to the next live section over the track with the band.
I'm not sure it's just a rehearsal video. Bits of this look very staged. I think it was meant to be a rehearsal/TV special that never came. Looking forward to the re-release so we can hear it all!
Honestly though. I wasn't expecting to enjoy this video so much, I was like, what can he say about Paul McCartney that I haven't heard. And you did it. I learned a lot and you had great commentary. Love love love.
The One Hand Clapping is live and then when the organ comes in he is singing live over a prerecorded track. I know this song well and he is singing differently than the track on the Band On the Run album.
Paul is right up there vocally, with the greats he can sing in so many styles his phrasing is great & he an original plus he a writer of songs how many can say that ? He’s a teacher & he’s not trying to be ! He’s so freakin talented if you can’t see it your deaf , dumb , & blind!
I just heard this version of 1985 a couple days ago and was amazed at his vocal on this song not to mention he is playing piano while singing. He makes it look so easy.
First and last parts where he's singing in the famous Abbey Road Studio 2 where the Beatles did 99% of their magic are absolutely LIVE! Anyone who has listened to this song off of Band on the Run Album can tell that the final part is quite different than the album track .In the album track there are no ad libs or scatting or "screams' a la Hey Jude which I love. The only part that's pre-recorded are the ooohs and aahhs for the transition with hammond and orchestra. If you listen real careful to the album track you can tell that those parts where edited on the 1/4 inch master.
It'd be so interesting if you'll listen and analyze the songs of the whole album Band On The Run!! Songs like Bluebird or Mamunia or Let me Roll It and Mrs Vanderbilt are so interesting to analyze! I hope you'll do it, cheers!!
Anecdotally, I did an unofficial duet with Lewis Capaldi... obviously not with him like that, but I took one of his songs and removed some of his lines so I could sing them instead. I found that listening to him that closely over the course of a day his vocals seemed unachievable and a bit too perfect. So I did what that guy did at 6:59, I isolated the Lewis Capaldi vocal and put it through Melodyne and discovered the same... every note was absolutely perfectly centred so he was pitch corrected as well. Nothing wrong with that, I pitch correct my vocals too, but I just found that interesting. It was the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge performance of the Britney Spears song "Everytime". Absolutely beautiful track, Lewis did an amazing arrangement of it and it was very enjoyable filling in parts of that.
So yes, we can adore (or not ...) the: Beatles, Stones, Queen, Led Zep, Police, the Who, Deep Purple, Lennon, Prince, Stevie Wonder and other huge talents, but in the end the one who dominates all this world is and remains Paul Mc Cartney!
There's no pitch correction on this take. The audio was never officially released until 2010, and between that and the raw bootleg from way before the digital era, there are no differences whatsoever. None needed either, he was on the top of his vocal game at the time. You can hear it's a raw live vocal take on the slightly flat first "five", for example.
Paul is head and shoulders above the other two Beatles ( sorry Ringo) when using his voice as an instrument, he could sing dirty, scream and shout or smooth as velvet with a touch of rough arse whiskey. Look at the change in voice in Hey Jude alone. He took hours of recording hours just to get the right voice for Oh Darling complaining that only four years previous he could have got it right in one go. I could imagine much of Paul's work being on a Beatles album after the break up, but as George and John went down their much more personal song routes less so their music. I know I've just upset lots of people by saying that, but Paul knew what was commercial and what was just for his own pleasure. I've always loved this song since it came out. 1985 seemed so far away back then. It's seems even further away now, though🤣

Please, please react to the LIVE version of "call me back again" on the Wings over America tour. I've always wondered what a voice coach would make of the wide range on just one song.
Your detailed analysis is great and educational. You describe in minute detail, things that are probably overlooked and/or not known by a lot of singers. I would love to hear your analysis of Paul McCartney singing "Long Tall Sally" in concert with the Beatles. Also,bI know Paul is 80, but I think his voice is nowhere what it used to be after watching several recent live clips. this was a fun watch!! I would absolutely love it if you reacted to Noah Kahan live performances- he has such an amazing voice and can be really gentle and has a beautiful falsetto and can also sing in a really powerful and gritty way, sometimes even in the same song.
Paul was recording the vocal for Long tall Sally and John asked him how he could hit those notes. Paul said that just comes out of the top of his head. Paul was having trouble getting the right sound and John said to Paul... Just remember it comes out of the top of your head
It's hard to tell, because McCartney is the kind of singer to look exactly the same when lip syncing as when doing it for real. He doesn't feel the need to mug or gurn or exaggerate for the camera. He knows that what he does normally is enough. Why wouldn't it be? Doing what he does makes hits, and witnessing it is a privilege.

Beatles remain the gold standard of the rock era, based on their songwriting skills, and their vocal blend. No doubt about it. Don't slight George and Ringo though. They also added to the magic of that group. No band has matched them since. Kurt Cobain said that every band after them was working in the shadow of those Liverpool lads. That says it all...
@samjohnson This song is off the ‘Band on the Run’ album, recorded in Lagos, Nigeria. Apparently Paul was a very heavy smoker for many years, & during the time there recording he had some kind of respiratory emergency, which was brought under control. Dr’s attributed it to excessive smoking, the heat, & dehydration. He was advised to smoke less among other things. At this time in his career he had a very smooth voice (not a gravly one like we hear in this)….so I think what you’re hearing is not intentional, just a product of the circumstances I described.

My gift to you is please checkout my favourite singer by a country mile being Gerry Rafferty. His best work is on 2 Albums City to City and Nighowl. The beauty of his vocals makes you cry and for teaching purposes he’s the best example of making every word sound precious.
I agree, he never ever has lip synced in his life, don't need to! Even in his eighties he don't! His voice is not what it was but that still doesn't tempt him to lip sync! REAL artists don't!
this isn't a live performance. its a lip-synched music video. i didn't even know this video existed. its a great song from a really good album called "band on the run." in the u. s. the single "helen wheels" was included on the album. (but not in the u. k.) you should hear that song and watch that video. ITS ROCKS OUT! the beatles were the ONLY band who's ballads i consistantly liked. not a big ballad fan. but after the break up mccartney seemed to be the only beatle who remembered how to write GREAT rock songs. most of his ballads sucked. i still don't know why people like "maybe i'm amazed" so much. i think it sux too. but i can name MANY mccartney solo rock songs that are just excellent! "ram" is probably his best overall solo album. thanks for the video.
@@ewest14... you think so? i doubt it. movies rarely, if ever, contain live musical performances. even when they do the audio is tweeked to add elements missing from the original or to remove undesired elements. that's called filmmaking. they create illusions of reality but rarely actually record reality.
@@cjmacq-vg8umPlenty of films from bands have 100% live recordings, especially concert films. There are plenty you can do comparisons from audience "bootleg" recordings to the film version and they are exactly the same. (Other than sound quality). Is this 100% live? No. The vocals are, but the music is not.
Listen to "She's A Woman" LIVE from the Hollywood Bowl in 1965. Better than the studio version if you can believe it. Tremendous top range in full voice.
Hi Sam, please consider reacting to either Diana Ankudinova’s performance of “I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You” or Lianne La Havas’ performance of “Say a Little Prayer.” Or maybe both, if you have the time? 😅🙏🏻🤞🏻

Yeah, the two best songs on the album!!

It predates a Tom Waits style of singing. Very creative and free Paul.
Love back seat of my car. I HATE that Monkberry song 🤮🤮
No... don't tell a voice teacher to listen to MMB!
Sir George Martin loved Paul singing the song Wanderlust. And he was right.
Love that song!
Oh where did I go wrong, my love?
Wanderlust is an incredible song.

The first part was indeed Paul live. When the background vocals came in it was the actual record with his live vocal.

James Paul McCartney died in car crash on September 11 1966 and was replaced by William (Billy). This is the truth no matter what!
🤓
Cut the crap, fool.
Crackpot!
this isn't a live performance. its a lip-synched music video. i didn't even know this video existed. its a great song from a really good album called "band on the run." in the u. s. the single "helen wheels" was included on the album.
This was a live vocal take. When the organ comes in, he is singing over a prerecorded track
@@ewest14... you think so? i doubt it. movies rarely, if ever, contain live musical performances. even when they do the audio is tweeked to add elements missing from the original or to remove undesired elements.
that's called filmmaking. they create illusions of reality but rarely actually record reality.
@@cjmacq-vg8um It for sure is. It’s not a movie but a television special and there are other obvious live performances in it
@@cjmacq-vg8umPlenty of films from bands have 100% live recordings, especially concert films. There are plenty you can do comparisons from audience "bootleg" recordings to the film version and they are exactly the same. (Other than sound quality).
Is this 100% live? No. The vocals are, but the music is not.
@@cjmacq-vg8umyou can listen to this compared to the studio master take side by side, and tell it’s a live recording, the outro is totally different
OMGGG 5 seconds of music and 2 minutes of talking ??? shut up!!!!!
Listen to "She's A Woman" LIVE from the Hollywood Bowl in 1965. Better than the studio version if you can believe it. Tremendous top range in full voice.
McCartney is way ahead of Mozart the best ever.
Hi Sam, please consider reacting to either Diana Ankudinova’s performance of “I Can’t Help Falling in Love with You” or Lianne La Havas’ performance of “Say a Little Prayer.” Or maybe both, if you have the time? 😅🙏🏻🤞🏻
