The one thing I love. About this movie is that we finally get to figure out why the grinch hated Christmas in the first place thanks to the mayor being a bully in the end grinch said sorry and Martha may date the grinch ❤️ my favorite quotes is “cheer up dude it’s Christmas “ Jim Carry
When you mentioned about who the target audience was my first though was “yea... I might be wrong but the cover I had I could have sworn he was sticking his middle finger up”
The artwork for this game is pretty bad! The cover is terrible- no offence to whoever drew that Grinch. I couldn't find any decent high res images of the game artwork that wasn't littered with logos. That's why the thumbnail is a bit... mnehhhh. 😂
I’m sure people who have played the game can agree why but doesn’t the ending of the game look like he was hypnotised into loving Christmas due to the music that plays at the end seeming very evil chanting.
*Merry Christmas!*🎄 You know the channel's going places when you get a Christmas variant of the logo. 😄 Nice one, man. Short long story- Long ago, there was once a magical shop where I live that sold all sorts of obscure PS1/2 games. Within its hallowed halls, I beheld this game one day and thought to my young self "Huh. This is a thing?" And lo, a purchase was made! Honestly, I've played this game for hours, but never even finished it. I like it a lot, but, like you say, it doesn't explain things. I mean, a game that gives you visual cues is great and gets you thinking, but... Okay, literally the ski-sliming puzzle with the dog took me *years* to figure out. Also, I've read the manual (very colourful, nice art) and the bubble health meter thing is called the "Exhaust-o-Meter". I think a more accurate name is "Nonsense Tolerance Gauge", but it goes unexplained along with the Hearts of Stone.
See, I usually read through the manuals, but I bought this game from someone online and they didn't include the manual. Exhaust-o-meter?! Haha! I actually see the metre as fairly pointless. The challenge lies in the puzzles after all. I tell you what also stumped me - this fat guy in the dump. I couldn't figure out how to get rid of him and all you had to do was fire a rotten egg at some construction equipment, but it wasn't clear. I initially mentioned that but it wound up getting cut because this review was waaaaay too long. Ooh, also... That Christmas logo was made for a Christmas special I did two years ago. I rarely use it, and this might be the last time I ever use it as I'm intending to change to opening soonish. Merry Christmas!!! :D
@@idonthaveanose Yeah, it's pointless and sends you back to the level start. Lives up to its name in that regard. 😁 Dump Guy I figured out pretty quick, but I never knew about the chap with the hook! So much I've never seen. Like the ending. Which is really eerie and creepy, as you illustrated perfectly. 😂 I think this would have worked better if it wasn't a Grinch game. Since that aspect feels so slapped on at the end. I'd like a game with a gadgety goblin thing making mischief. Similar aesthetic and keep the music. Boom. Perfect. Ah, well first time I've seen it. Can't wait for the new look. 👍 Also, I meant to thank you for listing me under "Reccomended by" in the Taz Wanted vid! Fun surprise there. 😁
Oh yeah, no problem! 😃 See, the dump guy- this is the thing with me and puzzle games. As I said in the review, I can often handle really tough puzzles, but the easy ones throw me completely. I overthink them all the time. I agree with you there! I had the same thought, that this game may have benefited more from NOT being a Grinch game. I've been so many harsh criticisms of the game and really, I don't think it's all that bad, but if you're expecting The Grinch, I can understand why someone would be underwhelmed. The atmosphere of the game itself is kind of eerie. I'm not sure if it's intentional, but as a kid this would have creeped me out! 😂 Some of the dump music reminds me of Oddworld.
@@idonthaveanose Old school adventure games are *riddled* with that stuff. Mostly to tease the player. LucasArts has some good examples. A property hampered by *being attached* to Dr Seuss. Huh. That's not something one says every day. 😄 That reminds me, I need to hunt down *Cat in the Hat for PS2.* Played a demo on PC years ago. It's actually fun, if simple. Most likely unintentional, but I cannot disagree - the whole thing feels unsetling. Much like the film. 😂 I like the film for the most part, but there's that inherent creep vibe when trying to make humans look like cartoons. Which is what the devs are trying to do in the game, but that raises another question: why didn't they just make it the characters look like Seuss's cartoon style? Not like it's too far off from Looney Tunes. Yeah, there's a strong OddWorld vibe. Heavy, industrial sounds always please me. I quite like the soundtrack in general, actually. "Under Water" is probably my favourite.
Oh yeah, Monkey Island actually springs to mind. The Cat in the Hat is one bad movie, I never played the game. The creepy CG fish used to terrify me. I completely agree about making cartoons look realistic being creepy. Some things were just meant to stay hand-drawn. The Grinch himself is like some creature from a horror movie and the other Whos aren't much better. Weirdly, I had a similar conversation about this type of thing earlier. The Oddworld soundtracks are weirdly relaxing to me. They're creepy and atmospheric but also weirdly calming. 😂
I know this might seem like the most random comparison, but I couldn't help but think about it, the sound effect during the blueprint puzzle game reminded me a lot of the sound effects from the Teletubbies PS1 game Just FYI, never play that game, it's easily one of the worst I have ever played
I vaguely remember having this either on the pc or dreamcast 🤔 either way i never completed it which is becoming a theme with me now 😅 but hey games used to have one difficulty and that was, "Hard" and still to this day i can't figure out why
I think this is so far the only game I've recorded that I've had to look up a walkthrough to complete. I got stuck for ages at Who Dump - how the hell they expected kids to figure it out is beyond me.
@@idonthaveanose well this is the thing and the point i made with wonka, that kids games where hard because they wasn't always blatantly obvious what to do next, it was like they where designed for adults first and if kids wanted to play them they could but, "fuck em" if they struggle 😅 it's childrens game design but done backwards 😅
I actually like this! I found a lot of PS1 kids' games to be quite challenging. Eventually I think they got too patronising and over-explained everything. Saying that, I think this game could have done with a little more explanation.
@@idonthaveanose i love a bit of challenge now as an adult, but to make a game hard and frustrating for a child so they could pan out the 4 hour story so it lasts longer, seems unfair and lazy for developers, now that being said if they had crunch to get the game done before or the day of the movie release then i get that, but if it's a stand alone game then it becomes lazy, but that's just my game design mind coming into play as i still enjoy these games and have recently found myself going back and playing bolt on the xbox 360
You could say that, but I don't always see it that way. In this case I think the game's biggest issue was the lack of direction, which I see as a mere oversight. I just think you sometimes needed a nudge in the right direction. But given too much help, it can easily make it boring. That, and there's always the problem knowing exactly what the age range of a game's target audience is intended to be. I know they're kids' games, but are we talking 3 or 10 years old? I was under the impression this was aimed at older kids (at least 8 and up) but there's nothing on the case to indicate that. Also, I have Bolt but on PS2. 😂
@@idonthaveanose You doing anything exciting for Christmas? I'm gonna be going to my grandparents on Christmas Day, assuming I get better as I've been sick for a little over a week now.
@@supermariof0521 Oh no, get well soon! I usually have a relatively quiet Christmas with the parents but I'm going to a party over New Year's! I'm seeing a few friends too, but Christmas itself will likely be low-key for me. 😂

I love these old school game reviews so much!
I love making them, haha!
Do you know seeing old-school games and how much they’ve changed to the recent games we have now it would be really cool if they make a come back
They should have called this game The Grinch's wild adventures. He sure goes on one.
When you mentioned about who the target audience was my first though was “yea... I might be wrong but the cover I had I could have sworn he was sticking his middle finger up”
I think that's meant to be his index finger. But hey, it would make sense - he is the Grinch! Bit inappropriate though, haha!
Ahh right I knew he had a finger up! 😂 guess that’s just a child taking whatever he could and making it inappropriate 😂
The artwork for this game is pretty bad! The cover is terrible- no offence to whoever drew that Grinch. I couldn't find any decent high res images of the game artwork that wasn't littered with logos. That's why the thumbnail is a bit... mnehhhh. 😂

For some reason my nan had a copy of this but we lost it, at least we have the memory card
Seriously loved the GBC version of this game which..is vastly different. It's basically sneaky Pac-Man. Good vid as always!
Never played the GBC game! Thank you! :D
I once play pacman before
No freaking way there’s a game boy version for this oh man and there was a Santa Claus three game boy advance game Man I got a find these
Let's be stealthy here ok? "Owch"!!
Ho-ho-ho!
What a interesting way to finish 2019 c:
I’m sure excited for this!
Yaaaay! Hope you like it! 😁
