You were talking through the scene when they were all whistling the same song, which happens to be the Colonel Bogey March, which was featured in the classic 1957 film, The Bridge on the River Kwai. The one basic similarity between the two films makes placing the song in this movie a very good choice, that I just figured out the umpteenth time I watched this. The actors in this film, probably do not know the history of that song.
Budget for making this film when you think about it, was very inexpensive whereas the classic at 66 years ago adjusted for inflation would cost a fortune to make today.

"Don't You Forget About Me!" is an iconic song I've been listening to for the better part of the last 30+ years. I highly recommend watching WS and Sixteen Candles (1984). Can't believe these films are almost 40 years old! They all have Anthony Michael Hall in them. He chose to do TBC and WS instead of European Vacation (1985) So he's the main reason the Griswold kids are played by different actors in each film. Jen knows. 😎👍 Perhaps it's because I'm old (around the same age as Judd Nelson), but what strikes me about this movie now is the fact that if you check over at the IMDB, you'll find that these actors have remained extremely active over the 38 year period since it was made, and yet, I still associate all five of them with the 1980s. I don't think I'm familiar with a single thing any of them have been in in the current century. I still associate Molly Ringwald with movies like "16 Candles" and "Space Hunter, Adventures In The Forbidden Zone." I still associate Ally Sheedy with "War Games" and "Short Circuit." Suddenly, I'm curious to check out what kind of actors they've all become in their late 50s and early 60s. 😄

The fist in the air freeze... maybe the most epic movie end shot, ever! The 2010 Oscars, the entire cast gets onstage to do a memorial for him, plus Ferris Bueller and home alone kid! All John Hughes movies must be watched! He did teen angst better than anyone! He was also involved in movies that he's not credited for such as animal House, Caddyshack, stripes, Vacation movies, blues brothers. He was a fast and prolific script writer. Other must watch are, pretty in pink, 16candles, home alone 1-2, uncle Buck, Plains trains and automobiles! Judd Nelson is in my opinion in this movie, the all time best protagonist/ antagonist character, ever written!
Just watch all John Hughes movies, and u will get the entire 80s, whether kid movies, coming of age, or even adult with Uncle Buck and Planes trains and Automobiles! Pro tip, when they are smoking pot, Bender doesn't smoke. He gets them all high, on purpose! The goth girl....she doesn't smoke for personal reasons she told the director. She doesn't think her character would need to smoke pot. Also, there's no dialogue in the script....the actors addlibbed the whole scene 😮😮😮. To add more depth....This is why all John Hughes movies must be watched! Including movies he worked on but uncredited for such as vacation, caddyshack, stripes, animal house, blues brothers... Bender is the most singular at one time, protagonist and antagonist together, in one film! He gets them to talk , talk to each other , and be truthful about themselves! Each of their lunches represents their lives, Bender has none. Also, Bender gets them all to do something they normally wouldn't, smoke weed. He doesn't smoke! By the way, what they do during that scene is addlibbed! Carl is the fully grown up and self realized version of Bender! Red head guy is Anthony Michael Hall. He had the most successful and longest movie career. He started in Vacation, and was last seen in The Dark Knight! His fist pump at the end, addlibbed. The principal also in diehard! But this cast all did very good movies after this. Anthony did several John Hughes movies! This, vacation, weird science, pretty in pink, 16 candles, not sure if Hughes did Johnny B Goode. This vast got together about 10-15 years ago at the Oscars, and did a beautiful tribute to Hughes passing. Type in here, the cast Emilio esteves is the son of Martin Sheen, brother of Charlie! of breakfast club at the Oscars tribute to John Hughes. He did an excellent funny movie called Stakeout! Hughes was prolific. He could write entire scripts in a couple weeks! Bender guy did an excellent lawyer type movie, a funny TV show, and was in New Jack City!

As an '80's teen Dude, "Pretty In Pink" was my least fave Hughes, but had to do more with it being a serious film, which I think was his only drama? I can appreciate it a lot more nowadays. I watched this movie on TV so many times over so many years before I realized I was seeing the censored version. I never knew they actually smoked weed. I thought I was going to die the first time I saw the full version and realize they're actually was weed in the guys underwear. That just came off as Binder being a smart-ass in the edited version.

The original cut for this movie nearly is complete lost, even after John hues died. It was 3 hours long, there’s some clips you can find of deleted scenes-
Alison has a dream during her nap where she pictures Clair as a princess, Andy as a knight.
The janitor all tells them their future- bender ends up on drugs , Brian becomes a ceo of a company but commits suicide from the pressure , Claire has a bunch of kids and loses her looks and Allison becomes a pretty damn good poet but nobody cares
The part where bender imitates Brian’s home life, Brian responds by showing his home life by going up to a statue in the library and kneeling to represent the statue as his father

Good job on this Tara. So many quotable quotes. Not to mention memes. The scene where they're talking about how they ended up there was improvised by the actors

John Hughes ruled the 80s! I think there are 2 movies that are the epitome of the 1980s, THE BREAKFAST CLUB and my all time favorite 80s flick, ST. ELMO'S FIRE.
In the 80s there was a group of actors called The Brat Pack. Well, members of the Brat Pack are in both of the movies I just mentioned.
PLEASE WATCH ST. ELMO'S FIRE. Where The Breakfast Club is about High School, St. Elmo's Fire is about just after college.
It's a great movie!!! It was extremely popular in the 80s and rightfully so. Oh and both John Hughes.

John Hughes had a string of great teen films, starting I believe with Sixteen Candles, starring Molly Ringwald, who plays the “princess” here. It’s a great film, even though it has a cringy racism stereotype. Pretty In Pink is excellent too. The only person I could have compared Hughes to is maybe Judd Apatow in the mid 2000s working with Seth Rogen. Very few movies go deeper than surface level when it comes to kids because you can tell the writers are in their 40s and 50s and don’t really understand kids. My Girl and The Sandlot have great kid logic.

That was awesome when you said "Eww... olive loaf." I laughed really hard because I wasn't expecting you to say that. I hated olive loaf when I was a kid in the 80's. I had no idea they still made it. Not that I've ever looked for it. I completely forgot about it until you said that.

Undoubtedly a classic from my high school period, except for the unfortunate makeover, in which Allison, a perfectly respectable and artsy goth is transformed into a mall chick for Andrew to drool over. Basically a "Grease" ending in the 'burbs.

    • @TaraTunesIn
      @TaraTunesIn Год назад

I mean... they were just doing it for fun, it's not like they forcd her to change who she is or something. She wouldn't have let Claire give her a makeover if she didn't want one. Allison seemed pretty happy with the way she looked and felt so, that's really all that matters :)

"How did people in the '80s wear headphones!?" Well, headphones like yours weren't a thing after portable music was invented in the early '80s with the Walkman and boomboxes. Walkmans have a much smaller set of headphones than yours, and as for boomboxes, well, the point was to boom the music to the whole block, the exact opposite of what headphones do

Ally Sheedy’s makeover annoys me. That’s not growth, catharsis or “improvement”. Nelson and Ringwald getting together annoys me. It is not earned at all, but bullying pays, I guess. But still a fun film overall.
