John, I just wanted to leave you a note. I made these tonight so our young children can enjoy the smells and tastes of great baking growing up. Something I remember as a boy. This is a great thing you are doing. I measured mine out to the gram and they came out wonderful! Our kids are so delighted to eat them. - Thank you for everything. - Justin & Family.

I've just made the teacakes, they came out of the oven looking absolutely delicious. And tasted even better, I can't believe I made teacakes, that taste better than bought ones. I've followed a lot of your bread recipes, and everytime it's been a successful outcome. I bake bread using your recipe 3 / 4 times a week now, can't remember the last time we bought bread from shop's or supermarkets. Also when you make your own bread you no they contain no preservatives. Cheers John.
I really miss these, living in Australia, the nearest thing to them are hot cross buns, but not really. My first batch were like bricks, but following your recipe i’m in 7th heaven, i’ll probably have to make at least once a week! I’m also diabetic and have been low carb for over a year now - so rationing myself.
Glad you like them! Ken. Here is the ingredients list and full written method on the channels website, English Teacakes profoodhomemade.com/english-teacakes/
Made these today. Did double the amount as there are six of us. Had no lemons so missed the zest out but they are absolutely awesome. I have no mixer so I hand kneaded the dough. There is no comparison to shop bought ones. They are on a whole different level. My daughter said they were the best teacakes she had ever eaten. Thank you John for the effort you make putting these videos together. I bought same weighing machine as you and it is brilliant. I love how you explain the difference between all spice and mixed spice. My calculation was a bit out as I got 17 not 16 but cooks perk that.
😂😉👍 Definitely a perk, nice job Joanne my friend. Here is the ingredients list and full written method on the channels website, English Teacakes profoodhomemade.com/english-teacakes/
Once again, having been inspired by John, I bought a stand mixer and made these Teacakes on Sunday. 8 absolutely delicious buns that disappeared extremely quickly! Thanks John.

Thank you for this video. I long for English Tea bread suddenly which I have not tasted since 1984. Oh how I miss this. Now with this I can bake it. Thank you so much.

I really appreciate that you give the ingredient amounts in the video as you go. So many videos don't and you have to go to a website for the amounts. They say things like "now add the sugar" without saying how much. Thanks for not doing that. You're videos are wonderful teaching tools.
Just made these today. They look beautiful and they were fun to make. This is the first recipe I have ever made that I weighed my ingredients. I’m so used to cups and teaspoon measurements. They were fun to make. It didn’t take too long to raise when my house is at 86°F. They taste very good. If I make them again I’m going to use less allspice. For me the allspice over powered the cinnamon just a bit. I would probably use half the allspice. They are beautiful to look at and nice to eat. Thanks for the recipe.
Thanks again for watching CL. Try the mixed spice instead , it's a bit milder and may suit you better. Here is the ingredients list and full written method on the channels website, English Teacakes profoodhomemade.com/english-teacakes/

Hello form Canada. This year I made strawberry and raspberry jams. I use a product that is sugar free and contains pectin, aspartame and a few other ingredients. This is a no cook freezer jam. It's very simple, just wash and chop the fruit, add the packet of jam mix stir, it quickly becomes a jam. Store in clean containers in the freezer till use, thaw and keep in the fridge. It's very good on toast or over vanilla ice cream or plain yogurt. Love your show, great presentation and tips.
Sounds great Anne, thanks for sharing my friend. Here is the ingredients list and full written method on the channels website, English Teacakes profoodhomemade.com/english-teacakes/
Your tea cakes are beautiful! I really love the idea of putting sugar water on top. I am sure it not only adds to the beauty of them, but also to the taste. They are beautiful, just like you said. Thank you so much. Your voice is so relaxing, I love listening to it.

Have spent the rainy afternoon making these , my first venture into yeast cookery for quite a while, absolutely marvellous, followed your instructions, using three tsps of mixed spice, and weighed everything, am amazed. Never again will I buy shop bought teacakes. these are certainly a cut above. Thank you for making these videos,.
Glad you like them Linda. Here is the ingredients list and full written method on the channels website, English Teacakes profoodhomemade.com/english-teacakes/
I made these a few weeks ago and they came out fantastic. I would not class myself as a baker but every time I try one of your recipes they come out great
Toasted Tea-Cakes are possibly my favourite tea time treat but so often shop bought ones are a disappointment. I made these yesterday and they are absolutely wonderful. So light and fluffy, such a tender crumb and so delicious with the spices. I’ve just had one for breakfast and it was epic! They are absolutely mahoosive though....next time I think I will make 12 smaller ones so that they are a bit more “snack size”! Thank you John for all your fantastic recipes and techniques.
Glad you like them! my friend. Here is the ingredients list and full written method on the channels website, English Teacakes profoodhomemade.com/english-teacakes/
These tea cakes are out of this world served simply with a pot of strong tea and cream. I had them made on a rainy evening and to my surprise me neighbours came over! To be honest mine was not so aesthetically appealing but still were gone in no time...sigh... anyway I had the neighbours see your channel and they got fascinated.Good job!!!
Thank you John, as Brits living in the USA, Tea Cakes are a missed item for us. I have followed your recipe and made two batches now. Both turned out great. I am now doing them for our grown children Steve

Hi John, I just wanted to say, I made these teacakes yesterday, I made them EXACTLY as you instructed and honestly they are stunning……My husband said they were the best teacake he’s ever had and every chance we get when we go to a cafe etc we get one, so that’s definitely a compliment because we’ve had so many of them. You’ve made me look like a good baker, thank you so much!!!!…….I only found you recently and this is my 1st bake from your channel. I promise it’s the 1st of many……I hope you’re ok and well and thanks so much again…….Jan xx❤xx

John, you've done it again! I made these this morning, as well as another batch of crumpets, and they're wonderful. I had a bit of a scare, as my buns didn't proof rise as well as yours, but they baked well. I just had half with butter, untoasted. Absolutely delish. Thank you❤
THANK YOU JOHN! I baked these yesterday. and it's a really really good recipe. The little bit of lemon zest works great - as does the Allspice. The only thing I changed was to divide the dough into 9 balls rather than 8... which im glad I did, because otherwise i think they would have been a bit to big to fit in the toaster!... and it still makes a very generously sized (as well as very tasty) tea cake.
Just an update...just finished making your teacakes John and shared one with my hubby. They are fantastic!! so soft in the middle and perfect colour on the outside!! Will be making these from now on!!
Made these for the first time last night. Absolutely delicious, so light and tasty. Love watching your videos. Now have both your books and am looking forward to working my way through the recipes. Invested in the easytek scales and these have made a real difference to the results of my baking. Thank you very much for taking the time to these videos.

Thanks John for another amazing recipe. Delicious. My grandchildren loved them. They are however nuts about bagels and I have tried making them with little success. Just wondered if you ever make them and if so perhaps you might be able to make a video as all of your recipes are brilliant. Thank you. Bev.
I have just made these after watching your video, I didn't have allspice so I used mixed spice, they were lovely and very light. I will be making them regularly. I wish they stocked your book in the UK Thank you
Thanks John , i tried your easy to follow Tea Cakes recipe and they turned out excellent , Just as a Tea Cake should be , fruity and a nicely balanced spicy flavor , 10 out of 10 . Everything was done as explained and i got a perfect finish , thank you so much for sharing this recipe with me .

Thank you, Mr Kirkwood, for another lovely video. I'll be making these tea cakes very soon, I'm sure! I want you to know I think your instructions are just wonderful and I love your method. You clean as you go, your workspace is always tidy and everything you do is efficient. The way you work reminds me of my mother and she was great at it. I learned a lot from her but my skills are not to be compared (as I wouldn't be a match in a contest). Your videos help me improve my kitchen. Made your Victoria Sponge for a friend's birthday a few months ago. Hey John I’m a new viewer I just wanted you to know a jam recipe You can use blueberry, raspberry, blackberries or strawberries, Anyway so choose a berry put them in a pot rinse them then drain water put them on cooker medium heat once they go mushy add 1 table spoon of lemon juice and 2 table spoons of chia seeds stir for few mins then take off heat let it cool down then jar it up and put it in the fridge it’s not as nice but still does the job very healthy :)

Hi John, I love to bake but have only recently started making bread and doughs so I treated myself to a stand mixer (what else can you treat yourself to during lockdown!) I am so please to have found your channel as your simple but precise instructions and guidance are the best I have come across.
Fantastic! I'm pleased you gave them a try my friend and they turned out well.
Made these Teacakes the best we have tasted.
brilliant
My third lot this week John, my family love these very much, and so very easy when busy. Thanks John

Once again, having been inspired by John, I bought a stand mixer and made these Teacakes on Sunday. 8 absolutely delicious buns that disappeared extremely quickly! Thanks John.

All the best for 2025.
I really appreciate that you give the ingredient amounts in the video as you go. So many videos don't and you have to go to a website for the amounts. They say things like "now add the sugar" without saying how much. Thanks for not doing that. You're videos are wonderful teaching tools.
Thanks for watching much appreciated.

Have made tea cakes several times without them being great but this recipe was very easy to follow and resulted in a fantastic end product.
Wonderful David.

John, you've done it again! I made these this morning, as well as another batch of crumpets, and they're wonderful. I had a bit of a scare, as my buns didn't proof rise as well as yours, but they baked well. I just had half with butter, untoasted. Absolutely delish. Thank you❤
Fantastic! I'm pleased you gave them a try my friend and I hope they turned out well.
Thanks again for watching Tim, much appreciated.
