Thank you Edward for taking the trouble to post this video. Many so called 'tradesmen' would not have the courage to expose themselves to critics. You are doing a fine job teaching our future tradesmen and, no doubt, tradeswomen.
I'm working with a brickie from Luxembourg here in Canada. You guys really know your shit man and are a pleasure to work with as well. Keep making the videos they're awesome. How you don't want a brick buttered is how I was buttering them...lmao Thx again!
I've been trying to get the knack of this for ages after watching your video over and over I finally got it, thanks, I owe u a drink , top man 😄 subscribed.
Hey can I just say thanks for doing these videos on brick laying...I'm about to lay a three course wall for my shed build and never laid a brick in my life...your videos are very helpful!
Really? As a bricklayer you need to do everything in the most efficient way. Minimal movements to achieve a full joint is what you are looking for. Thanks for watching hope you learnt something
need advice what kind of u motra mix ?just mix or use dye because you color look a like sand(normally just cement color ) i need it but dont know how to mix thx
I'm a bit late coming to the party but I'm always amazed at the number of brickies who tap the level to level a brick. I was always told you never tap the level, tap the brick. Neat work nonetheless.
Sundance thanks sundance, was taught the same but it is the best, quickest and most common way, guess as tools have become more expendable and the need to work quicker have led it
Nice video. Watching from London, Ontario Canada. Don't use very many frogged bricks, except for restoration. Essential skill laying frogged bricks, nonetheless. Good job!
Really talking about the level I'm using is about as important as the hoddie I'm wearing. At any point have I recommended or said this is my personal level? The video on buttering up a brick! I use a stabila 96-2
Buttering the end of the brick should be one movement just slap it on making sure the face side is full then lay brick and remove with trowel, quicker easier and doesnt soil the brick face in any way, this is how my dad taught me and he been laying bricks for over 60 years
Come across your videos via the RUclips algorithm, thank god! Excellent information and well presented, for a beginner like my self this, this is fantastic information pure gold. Currently building an outbuilding out of bricks 22ft by 12ft. Single skin with pillars. Small mistakes have been been made nothing major, but wish I had found channels like yours before I started building and practiced the techniques before hand, rather than as I build it! Question for you I'm 33 and would like a change of career, in your opinion is 33 too late to train and get qualified as a brick layer? Would be interested in your thoughts. Many thanks for these videos much appreciated 👍🙏
Ha ha not heard that one before, take it you don’t work with bricklayers or stabila levels. It applies even pressure to the unlevel bricks and pretty much all bricklayers do it
Stick rule? This is England, we use tape measures and read metric. When training level 1 bricklayers we use a gauge rod. Please appreciate your opinion is not always right and country even regional differences
Ollie Rawles thanks Ollie, I'm using a marshalltown town 19-11 Philadelphia pattern is my favourite trowel. If you just starting out the 19-10 is a good choice. Thanks for comment
Very true. If you notice here in the U.S. our frogs are laid down because of the way they are made. The bottom of U.S. made bricks are irregular so we lay the straight edge to the line. I don't furrow mortar when using "common" brick because if I did there tends to be a void which can accumulate moisture and freeze during winter months. English brick look to be made cleaner and more consistent.
Great tutorial thank you.... (Your cameraman/woman was a bit sleepy though think he/she kept on having nana naps ;-))))))) My question is:- How do you prevent the weight of the new layer of bricks reducing the 10mm mortar bed below?
Hate the way bricklaying superstars say don’t tap your level. Nothing wrong with “tapping” a level, it’s not made out of glass you fucking amateur. Get back on your YTS course.
That is not a full head joint what you are showing. It should be a solid head joint and what you are showing is a hack way of buttering. It has a void in the center. Please stop making videos.
Best vid on the topic. No BS , simple, understandable and straight to the point
Что за раствор?

Excellent video! I would like to see a video of how to butter, lay and space bricks on edge.
His bricklaying is 10-10

great videos mate . Can you do some more, possibly on block work?
No problem mate, thanks good luck to you 👍

Good bita bricklaying eddie
Great videos , really helped me . Please could you tell what pattern and size trowel you use ? Are you going to do any more videos?
Ollie Rawles thanks Ollie, I'm using a marshalltown town 19-11 Philadelphia pattern is my favourite trowel. If you just starting out the 19-10 is a good choice. Thanks for comment
Wow I was tought to never hit the level with your trowel .
if any of my apprentices hit the level with the trowel.they would get my trowel on there effing arse .just not done in Manchester
Interesting how you do it across the pond and how your bricks have the old school frog. I think you have a better a quilty of brick.

excellent .. informative. clear...
Too many keyboard warriors, thanks for comments
Don't worry about them! You know what they say right? Opinions are like ass holes, everybody has them and they all think theirs smell the best!
Edward Williams
You actually have a very small percentage of keyboard know it alls, count yourself lucky. Great videos
Edward Williams are you in Canada??
natural stone moments . It's an English accent so I'm guessing England
This is....The Larch!
Great tutorial thank you....
(Your cameraman/woman was a bit sleepy though think he/she kept on having nana naps ;-)))))))
My question is:- How do you prevent the weight of the new layer of bricks reducing the 10mm mortar bed below?
The absorption ability of the bricks take up the water in the mortar allowing the mortar to stiffen sufficiently to support the next brick.
do you have a video showing how to butter a brick soldier ?
Thank you!
Please make a video plaster wall complete detail
not picking holes pal but you should never tap your level with your trowel !! just saying
1gambling why not?
You sound like you're straight out of college lol, little tapping the level with the rubber handle end won't harm the level, trust me.
Hate the way bricklaying superstars say don’t tap your level.
Nothing wrong with “tapping” a level, it’s not made out of glass you fucking amateur. Get back on your YTS course.
If a level is that "fragile" that a few gentle taps with a trowel handle throws it off,I don't want it on my job site.
great explanation! I would also like to see how to lay header brick's, sorry for bad English.
Are my eyes mistaking me or have you laid some bricks, with the face side inward, only saying, but a very good video 👍🏻
Garysguitar ha ha I wouldn't have thought so check again :)
Hello, Now you tell me!!
I have just been doing what you say Not to do.
No wonder I had gaps between the ends of the bricks!
You also need to get a good masonry level and throw away those cheap carpenter levels you have.
👍🏻из России
when you range the brick with your level it is better to place it on the top edge not down an inch from the top of the brick.
I feeel sorry for that white wall getting splashed with mortar.
Not a full 10mm joint?? Please watch me lay the second and third bricks on this wall and watch the mortar spill out
4:46 noooooooo
I wonder if Ed got paid for rendering the wall behind the spot board with mortar?
two swipes for a brick joint not three 30% faster
Never tap your level any good bricklayer knows that.
Lee Dawson why? Give me one good reason not to “TAP” a spirit level made out of metal?
Where is your stick rule? Why are you gauging your height with a piece of wood. This is bad practice.
You never plumbed it
Did he say plumbing next lesson m8 at the end .....This for guys who have never picked up a trowl
You never listened. Obviously!
opening scene.....you look like you want to slap te camera.....chill winston.....this world is full of keyboard experts.....all paisty and weak.
