Mark the Chicken is the greatest runner up of all time
I'm surprised she didn't win.I mean she had a good social game because she was giving people eggs. Her biggest game move was her flirtatious game to convince no one to eat her. She knew to put people on the jury that wouldn't eat her. I think it was very impressive that she never got a vote, never casted a vote, and was never elegible for immunity. Since Michelle was the sole survivor and Mark never technically lost the jury votes. She came second place. She also can't talk so getting that far is really impressive.

I think Carolyn is highly underrated, and in a world where Mike loses the Final 4 Immunity, there’s a very good chance Carolyn wins vs Will and Rodney.

@@jwdavid100 There was a chance Rodney would have won. Jeff polled the Jury on finale episode had on their votes had Rodney won the firemaking challenge, and Mike won 5-3-0, a stark contrast to the 6-1-1 that actually happened. It’s very possible the jury saw Rodney as a better player than Carolyn.
UPDATE: Everyone moves down a spot and Dominic Abbate becomes #1.

I think Ozzy deserves to be on this list, his gameplay is great for all of early season survivor and he lost by 1 vote to someone who changed the game and also possessed the god idol. He def isn’t the best strategic player but his physical dominance and the fact that he was one immunity challenge away from winning another season proves that it wasn’t just one season he was good

Aubry really couldn't do much in both seasons but what she had she made it WORK Aubry Is a legend

I would have included Russell tbh. I know he's controversial but he had an undeniably great strategic game two seasons in a row, even if his social game ended up being shit in the end. I agree on Carolyn, Rob, Parvati, and Aubry though. Also maybe would include Chrissy from HHH.

Amanda is not a good player. I’d call her a goat actually. She never made any moves herself and I can’t believe she was ever brought back. Very poor social game as well.

I'm taking it Dom from Ghost Island easily cracks this list. I'd definitely at least put him in the Top 3.
Amanda not being mentioned actually hurts my soul.
I'm an Amanda fan, and she really could have won both times she made it to the end.
Commenting a couple of years late but glad to see some love for Mama C. Especially the fact that she managed to play in the majority alliance (against Mike) the whole time while still doing enough to court his favour so he would send her to firemaking. I wasn't surprised that Mike won but I was flabbergasted that Will got a vote so that Carolyn split the runnerup pot.

We need an all runner-ups season. Similar to the season 31, second chances, still my favorite all-stars season yet.
I actually think that it would be much better than winners at war, which I think is a little overrated.
JT and Stephen have to be top three power couples all time. They covered up the flaws of the other so perfectly. We each returned on their own those flaws were left unchecked and eventually led to their ouster
Don’t get me wrong, Aubrey is one of my favorite players ever, but I honestly still believe that Sarah was going to win Game Changers no matter what.

For me Aubry was a dark horse to win Game Changers. That sound crazy but Aubry’s ideal Final 3 would be either Sarah and Troyzan or Brad and Troyzan. Troyzan I think got screwed by the edit cause he was likable but the edit painted him as a GOAT which is not true and yeah Sarah played a great game but she pissed some people off on that jury and Aubry had to play from the bottom pretty much 2/3 of the game. She got votes and survived, she blindsided Debbie again, won an immunity challenge, and overall played a scrappy game despite playing with arguably the biggest target out of everyone that was on the season. That’s really impressive if you ask me, that’s what makes Aubry an incredible player

Solid list. I do think Rob and Parvati partially lost due to factors that came from outside the game they were playing. In AS, this was the first time where players came back and the returnees were friends outside the game. This all came to a head during the whole infamous Lex deal. There really hasn't been anything like that again both in terms of how personal the betrayed person took it and the circumstances (every player pulled the opposite buff during a tribe swap except Amber). I truly believe without the tribe swap, Lex still gets axed at the merge but votes for Rob instead of Amber. I really don't think his game in AS was much different at all from the win he had in RI if you take out the preexisting relationships he had in AS. In the case of Parvati, you can criticize her alliance choices to some degree, but you have to remember she was the number one target going into the season. No one wanted to align with her due to her game in Micronesia except Russell and Danielle. When the heroes and villains merged, none of the heroes had any interest in interacting with her...again mostly due to reputation (and some sort of falling out with Amanda that was outside the game). I think given how stacked the deck was against her before the game even began and how she maneuvered with limited options she had due to judgement of her past games, she deserved the win.
I don't know why people act like Rob isn't always vurnerable in a jury vote under any circumstance though. On RI he did a better job managing the jury than AS, dominated the game just as much, and the cast still say he loses to all but Philip and Natalie T. Again reminder, while he played a great game in RI he only won since he went with 2 big goats, by far the 2 biggest goats of that season and 2 of the biggest in the history of the show, to the end. Someone with his personality and playing style will always be vurnerable in a jury vote.
@@dianeross4361 It's true that the jury wasn't too keen about voting for Rob but I think it had a lot to do with the fact that he was a 4 time returning veteran more playing against a group of first timers versus his actual gameplay. I think that whenever a veteran sits next to a newbie at final tribal they have to be heads and shoulders better than their competition like Rob was with Natalie and Phillip or Cochran was versus Sherri. When there is a competent newbie in the finals like Danni (versus Stephanie) or Sophie (versus Coach) then the veteran has a much harder time getting that vote.
As mentioned above, I think this all moot for Rob if that weird tribe swap never happened since the boot order is likely exactly the same but the jury demeanor is completely different. Lex and Kathy aren't upset with Rob for betraying them after saving Amber and Rob doesn't make a backup final 2 alliance with Alicia to hedge against the possibility of Amber being voted off instead of Jerri.
I think really the true case study would have been either Marquesas or Heroes vs Villains though to really put our theories to the test since Rob would have been both on an even playing field with his competitors and wouldn't have had weird circumstances as a dark cloud over the season.
@@mattborowski522 Valid point on the returnee factor. Although regarding your Steph example I think Steph's Guatemala game was horrible and deserved to lose. Sophie vs Coach, maybe it was a factor, I don't know. Sophie did own Coach at FTC who refused to own his game, and won the crucial last challenge to boot Ozzy, maybe that is why some jurors voted her too.
Yes Rob got screwed by the silly tribe swap, I agree there. I wish Rob had won All Stars since RI never happens now, and I hated that whole season so much. I kind of wish he had stayed longer in Heroes vs Villians, but then again that season wound up so epic I am not sure I would change anything. Loved Russell losing with 0 votes at the end.
@@dianeross4361 I haven't watched Guatemala in along time so I'd have review it, but I honestly don't recall Stephanie playing a terrible game. I've always felt that she got a bad rap because she was perceived as this huge hero and underdog from Palau so when she had to play more cutthroat the 2nd time it stung more than if she were just an ordinary player. I don't mind Danni winning the vote to be clear since really played perfectly from final 7 onward and was likeable throughout.
Heroes vs Villains is one of my favorites so I'm cool with how it played out for the most part. I do think an alternative version with Rob's alliance making the merge would have been fascinating since the Heroes probably still self destruct since JT was dying to jump ship and play with Rob/Tyson/Coach/Courtney, Rupert had a good relationship with both Sandra and Rob, and Candice showed she'd flip at the first sign of trouble.
@@mattborowski522 Rafe was the best player of Guatemala, along with Danni. Rafe played Steph like a fiddle, getting her to do whatever he wanted even when it was not what she wanted. Rafe's plan which was brilliant was to get rid of all of Steph's big goats (Judd, Jamie, Cindi) so she would have no choice but go with him. Also getting her to burn the jury badly so she would be an easy beat for him. He lost the game on his foolish decision to keep Danni over Lydia at F4. Rafe played Steph like a fiddle, and Danni to a lesser degree played Rafe towards her the end, constantly convincing him to keep her safe. Steph did play a horrible game IMO. She let Rafe manipulate her and control every choice she made, which was mostly disaesterous for her game, including both betraying and buring almost all her allies and best potential F2 goats. Which also ended up costing Rafe the game since Steph should have atleast put her foot down and refused the ridiculous booting Lydia over Danni at F4, which she was even against, but as usual went along with what her master Rafe choice which ended up costing Rafe the game too when Danni won the FIC.
A fluid alliance between the heroes and villians probably would make for an even better season.

When it comes to Parvati, she didn't have a choice on who she aligned with. There were people gunning for her since day one, like in the first FvF. She went with people that were also in the bottom due to those circumstances. If she could've worked her way to being in the majority, she would've, in the beginning that is (I know that Jerri "flipped" and they did get the majority of votes after Tyson "voted himself off"). Having someone with 3 different ties on the other tribe was too much of a threat and they wanted her off! So I don't think that was a "downfall" of hers, per se, but the only choice she had! Maybe after the Tyson vote off, she could've flipped and what not, yes, and that may have done better or made her do worse, I'm not sure, but I think Parvati had smaller choices til that point!
Facts Rob and Courtney would have blindsided or gunned for Parvati tho.

While she’s often left out of these lists, Neleh I think is a great example of someone who played a strong strategic game (besides wanting to bring Pappy to the finals perhaps), that lost more due to her personality and nothing she could legitimately change than really a game type lack of decision making. Granted, FTC was a wash, but she really attempted to get close to everyone, seized a strategic opportunity that was game changing in its own right, and won challenges when she needed. While many people probably correctly view V as an underrated winner, likewise I think Neleh is a massively underrated runner-up

Yeah, Colby definitely deserves an honourable mention.. aside from me loving the early seasons, at the time I thought he was totally going to win. That's another early season that showed me how much I do love the social game; Colby was likable enough, to be fair, but Tina was great!
and, dude, I am horrible with top anything, hahha, I could not do five on this one. Colby and then Rob with AS1, maybe even Twila but her social game was terrible so, probably not.. Sugar from Gabon deserves a bit more appreciation, I did love Bob, though. Eehhh, then, Steven, yeah that rounds out five and he does deserve a spot! There, I'm proud of myself! 😂😂
maukamauka right?! He was just so damn good natured and easily likeable, although game wise I do think Sugar played pretty well. In that season, anyway, don't think she'd be as memorable as a decent game player to me in many other seasons.

Thomas Murray yeah, I don't think anyone had a chance against Todd but Amanda is one that seems to fuck herself with the final tribal.. if she didn't have as good of talkers there with her, I can definitely see her being a winner in a parallel universe.

Speaking of Ozzy, I'd like you to make a video which debates the physical game (Ozzy/Brad) vs the strategic game (Yul/Sarah) and which game is better.
Ozzy was robbed by a foul mouthed P.O.S. who thinks his shit dont stink. But apparently I remember reading that Adam (Right After) Brad and P.O.S. himself regretted not giving him the vote. He did all the work and Yul got all the glory. Shameful
Aubrey is for sure #1 most robbed runner up. Then I would say Kelley Wentworth even though she got 4th, still completely robbed of the win. Then Russell in Samoa, Parvati on Heroes v Villains, and what the heck, Courtney in China. She may be crazy but it’s a good kind of crazy hahaha

Wentworth was not robbed. She lost the immunity challenge fair and square. She was voted out 3-1 fair and square by a majority who was is control

Rigged? Production was doing everything they could to help Aubry win and she couldn't. If that juror removal reward was an immunity challenge then Michele votes Aubry out and destroys Tai in a final 2.
Russell hantz went to the final twice ... he created so many blindsides, won immunity in critical situations, and found multiple idols.
And had the worst social game twice…

If we're counting Aubry, then I guess we should also count people who can't win because of the bitter jury/bad jury management. That's why it's called best runner ups, not robbed goddesses.

Bitter Jury is a fallacy. The Jury is allowed to feel however they want. It's your job to know who you're playing with and how they might react. The winner of the season deserved to win that season. Doesn't matter how the name of the game is get to the end and win over the Jury.
And Aubry was helped by Neal's medical evacuation, she would have been the 1st jury member otherwise.
Dylan McCollum But to blatantly deny the most righteous player of their win is just not right. Michele played a very basic Survivor game with nothing remotely innovative or interesting, Aubry did. But she lost because of 2 pieces of shit, a bimbo and a nutjob who formed the jury.

Coach dominated the season when Sophie won, much like Boston Rob in the adjacent season. Still my most surprising 2nd.

ok wow... I probably will never rewatch Worlds Apart but you completely changed my perspective on Carolyn as a player!!
My list would be: Domenick, Chrissy, Parv, Boston Rob and Aubrey in that order. If we exclude Parv and Boston Rob since they already won, I would put Russel and Amanda as 4th and 5th
Surprised to see Boston Rob and Carolyn here. They were solid runners up but not necessarily in the Top 5 for me.
The Top 5 for me is Aubry, Stephen, Parvati, Spencer and Chase Rice.
I think the other 4 are self-explanatory, but Chase is practically never brought up and that baffles me. His game wasn't very exciting, but he lost by ONE VOTE in the FTC, and the winner had votes from 2 quitters who should not have been on the jury... they quit the game. So he should've won 4-3, not lost 5-4. He was quite robbed in that regard. Ryan as well... I mean the fire-making twist was insane. And he could win the Ryan-Devon-Chrissy F3 according to some people who were actually on the jury.
Good list, I did consider Spencer for a bit. I just couldn't shake his crash-and-burn at the end of Cambodia, how big of a goat he was compared to half the jury. Chase is a big question mark for me. I've heard he received a few pity votes from the jury after it was clear Fabio would win. His game was pretty good overall, likely in the Top 10, but the amount of waffling he did didn't impress me.

suggestion: video on bitter jury syndrome and how important it is to impress the jury with big moves while potentially pissing half of it off versus trying to please the jury to garner votes
I know this is a controversial pick but I would have included Russell Hantz on this list. The guy played one of the craziest post merge games ever and was able to get his 4 to the final 5 despite being literally half the size of the other tribe. Then being able to identify the weak link in the opposing tribe and convincing her to flip despite her knowing it would only get her so far. I know he isn't the most well liked and his jury management was terrible but his ability to control the game while being down in numbers shouldn't be discounted. On a side note, which Evolution of Strategy clip did you use in the video?
Amusingly enough the Rob C. clip was from Samoa discussing Russell Hantz and his poor jury management. :P

Haha I just wrote a similar comment above. I know people hate him but I genuinely loved watching him play. I really think he should've been on this list.
If I was a juror on Samoa I probably would have voted for Hantz. Just because as a fan I respect big moves and aggressive play. However, I understand 100% why he lost Samoa. He cost himself. He treated Galu members like shit right to their face then basically demanded their vote. Not good play. I also understand why he's not on this list. Other people were far closer to winning. I'm not sure Russell could have won against anyone in Samoas end game.

My sentimental fave, Courtney from China needs a shoutout! Amanda, while with a much weaker game in HvV, probably deserves one too, if only because she did it twice in a row!
She probably could have won heroes vs villains if Candice didn’t flip and the heroes made it to the final 4.
Yeaaah I was literally clapping when I saw you had Aubry at the #1 spot❤. She's one of my favorite Survivor players ever🤩🤩
I personally feel like Twila's gameplay was overshadowed by Chris's. She was at the majority alliance right from the beginning. She survived the tribe swap by working hard (men appreciate that way more than women) and connecting with Sarge who was in a power position for sure. When it came to the merge she saw a clearer path to end by siding with the women and started pagonging the men.
At the point where Leann grew closer to Julie and decided to ditch Scout from the final four she knew she had to flip the script. After strategizing with Scout they went to Chris and told him the plan and tipped him about needing to talk to Eliza. Which showed good game play on her part since she couldn't stand the girl and vice versa. At that point Scout was the most loyal to her and in her mind she must've thought Chris would be more loyal to her as well than to Eliza, because she saved him. She only really had to beat Eliza to get to top 2. Which I think she thought wouldn't be a problem since she had previously already won 1 immunity challenge.
Now don't get me wrong, I do realize she at times was about as subtle as a rhino in a china shop. She clashed with the younger girls often and at times was their target and with a better social game she could've avoided those kinda situations. She also could've handled the Jury better at the FTC.
In my opinion Chris was a smart player on his own, but he lucked out when the women self destructed. He also benefited from the fact that Twila had to cut more friendships in the end than him. At the final tribal Twila kept it 100% and Chris faked it till he made it. Not sure if Twila would win against Chris if their season was played on the "modern era", but it sure would be closer than what it was.
That's an interesting point to make: is it better to 100% honest with the jury even if the jury doesn't like what they hear like what Twila did? Or is it better to fake it till you make it like what Chris did? I think Todd and Tony are the best examples of who juggled that expertly. Todd knew how to fake it till he made it with each jury member: he knew exactly what to say to each one, knew exactly what jury member wanted to hear. In China, Jean-Robert, for example, wanted his ego stroked and Todd stroked it so hard it more erect than a tent. In Cagayan, Tony was copping heat over his erratic and at times ruthless gameplay, so Tony knew he had to be 100% honest. With Trish in particular, she was so emotional that Tony just let himself cop whatever flak Trish thought he deserved, and answered exactly how she wanted to hear it: a simple yes or no.
It's a tough act to balance, and one many fail at. Mick from Samoa I do believe had a great shot of winning (yes, I mean that seriously), but he failed to fake it till he made it and bombed at FTC. Natalie however was awesome at faking till she made it. With Russell, the jury wanted honesty in both Samoa and HvV, but he refused and even double-downed on his gameplay. As Coach said at the HvV FTC: if Russel had just owned up to his style of gameplay, admitted how his gameplay was ruthless and savage, he would have garnered a lot more respect from the jury.

I 100% agree with Aubry. She’s also my #1. I always hated that Michelle won, in my opinion, because she was prettier. I would hope that the jury would have a different opinion once they actually watched the show and saw all Aubry was doing behind the scenes to control the game. Michelle did none of that. All she did was be nice to people and look pretty.
I also think that on this list should be both Ozzy and Colby. Although, they both fit into the category that their season winners also deserved to win just as much as they did.
And as terrible as some people think this opinion might be, Russel Hantz deserved to win on his first two seasons more than the people who actually did. He played a much better game, he just didn’t win because people didn’t like him. I would hope that the game has changed enough since then that he would be given the props he deserves, were he to play again.

@@harleypost985 THANK YOU! Amanda did it ALL. Parvati wasnt masterful enough and Cirie was in here feelings at times. Plus Cirie, and Eliza, couldnt even get over their sour grapes to give Amanda the win when she was the one that orchestrated their demises.

@R F Parvati is the one that wanted eliza out because eliza had been targeting her since the beginning so that wasn't sour grapes when eliza voted for parvati to win.
@cooper l. circe coming up with plans doesn't mean she was leading them. natalie, amanda, and cirie were all going to take Parvati to the end that's how loyal they were to her. when james had a question about the alliance and what was going to happen he asked Parvati who she was going to take to the end because he could see she was deciding who was going and when. when cirie wanted to use ami's plan to take out ozzy it was parvati that decided it was time to pull the trigger and she's the one that got the people on board. parvati was the leader. the leader isn't always the brains or the brawn like cirie and amanda but she's the one that kept them together and the one that made the decisions.
I hate when people argue about this. Can't we all just say that all of these women did their job and all deserve credit? They all played a pivotal role in this plan, period.

Once you sell a lie (Russel...I'm with you to the end girls...and we're all in this together)...you have to follow through Parvati's reaction to that news was spot on. He immediately went primal once she called him out and it seemed to me he almost frightened her in response. It wasn't a "strategic" move on her part. I believe it was totally instinctual.

One thing that I think about Aubrey is that maybe her edit did her too much justice and she might have had a pretty bad social game. I’m thinking about how she treated Tai when he had valid concerns that it might be a final 2 and she belittled him and talked down to him about it. If that’s how she acted normally throughout the entire season it’s easy to see why Michele won and not her.
