The voice actor for the animated series was perfect for this role. I watch this series every now and then, such an inspiring anime that made me nearly chose teaching as my career. Kids need this role model, adults need to see this inspiring person, this Great Teacher, Onizuka.

Absolutely! It's something I sometimes throw on just for some inspiration. I'm thankful to the author and the showrunners for this.

It's funny because even in the dub which has some definite exaggerated voice acting, but Steve Blum even kills it in the dub

Also Onizuka japanese VA and okoyasu from JoJo part 4 share the same VA

You talking about dub or sub ?

@@rahulranjan9013 sub, I like hearing the original audio for GTO, the voice actor for the main character suits the role so well.

I've watched this in my teenager years
Now I'm a kindergarten teacher out of a 5th grade college, but thank God I had nice education throughout my whole life and when I entered college I was more of a teacher than I imagined, I think even watching GTO helped in that because it gave me a new perspective of what a teacher could be (and I agreed with him because the "normal" kind of teacher bores most of us), while also helping me shape my moral values at the time since I was a crazy mf with no regards to others feelings whatsoever. I care for my students when needed (and sometimes just out of blue 'cuz why not, we all like to feel cared), but I allow myself to be silly just like they are 'cuz that brings them much closer to me and helps when I need them to listen.
But yeah, Onizuka teach us how to live :) The guy's the definiton of human being, altruistic when others are in need, selfish when he knows he won't harm anyone. His way of living is so real, full of contradictions just like we all are, yet such a benevolent guy, my role model I'd say.
The manga began to be released in my country last year and I'm really enjoying the things that are exclusive to the manga.

Onizuka and Yoshikawa was one of my favorite relationships in the show, having someone to talk about games with, and to be able to recommend them, because you genuinely wanted people to experience them.
These days that's turned into perverted fanboyism lol

I remember back in the day, like 30 years ago when I was more heavy on anime...seeing the GTO dvd/vhs box cover art, at rental stores or magazines ads. Never really gave any attention to it. Then a week ago, it was on Prime Video, and decided to give it a go...wtf. Im hooked on this stupid/charming anime, how the students now are his friends after how they despised him, this is a great quality anime that I missed back in the day...❤Love GTO !

Even Shonan Junai Gumi (OniBaku days), though more of an action/delinquent manga, display slices of teenage life we can all relate to.
Once you've immersed yourself into the GTO manga-verse, you'll love and appreciate it even more.

Just finished GTO. What a ride! Stupid fun on the surface, but such a deep piece of art in essence. Speaks volumes on what it means to care for the others and to be there for somebody. Loved every minute of it and now that I've finished it, I feel a bit of emptiness inside, cause it's always a bummer to leave something so beautiful behind.

I have the same feeling currently. It was a great ride watching this anime, full of funny and wholesome moments. I'm not sure I'll ever find an anime to watch that makes me feel the same way as GTO.

The moment onizuka beat up the vice principal for calling those students "trash" i knew i found the perfect show. Onizuka might be a complete moron, always horny, rude etc. But he has his own principals and sticks to them no matter what. This is probably among my top 3 favorite animes of all time

I had 3 teachers who were there for me and others. Mr. AVELLI....my math teacher. By 2009 12th I was a heroin addict, abused and it all happend to collided.. teacher's never did jack...until Mr. Avelli walked up to me in the halls playing guitar(3 BG smack) takes my glasses off and state "Dylan...please whats wrong? His eye's meant Biz...got cleaned....in school teachers knew me from that....I nodded off a bit I was on suboxone.. this bitch teachers tells me "Wake up...what are you high?
IN FRONT of everyone ..I freaked out at said fuck off...my friend (only one who stuck with me)her face was so upset..Mr. Avelli ask me to stay and he tells me "Hey,how are you handling it?I see you again in there" I Shredded a tear...to this day he will have forever saved a boy...who he didn't need to.
Also after HS o wanted to be a marine so he tutors me the AFQT..❤❤
Those are trials I see in GTO and it's easily my 4th favorite
