- Two brown bear cubs, found orphaned in the beautiful Pamir Mountains of Tajikistan, are released back into wild in the Alichur conservancy in the eastern Pamirs in October 2014. Nicknamed the "roof of the world" owing to the fact that much of the plateau is over 4,000m, October is a beautiful time to visit the Pamirs when stunning autumn colours and crisp, cold days, can be experienced.
The release was managed by the big cat conservation group, Panthera whose work in Tajikistan is dedicated to conserving the snow leopard. It must be emphasised that the release of these two bear cubs was not part of their normal work activities, but a side project.
