I discovered Japan after Duran Duran came out and always passed them off as another copy. Come to find out that Duran Duran is a copy of Japan! I was inconsolable for days!
It has bogled my mind since I was introduced to this band in 1981 when I was 13 that they were not as well known. This music is still incredible. A knife went through my heart the day I got the news Mick had passed. What an incredible, amazing, and special group Japan was. There will never be another.
I second that emotion. Hint hint. Japan was one of a kind in a lot of ways! Like the Beatles, an innovative band that ended too soon yet these bands will always be unforgettable. That in itself softens the blow!
Thanks to lack of airplay here in the States I did not hear any Japan or Sylvian songs. If it weren't for an 80s playlist on my Smartphone that played the beautiful Sylvian/Sakamoto Forbidden Colours back in 2013. I wouldn't have known of this underrated band nor the incredible music that Sylvian made in the 80s. Brilliant Trees is mesmerizing!
+Neb NuMu DjediKhepri KauSen They will always be remembered for their brilliant use of keyboards to create a wonderful ambiance, drums in a way which left an imprint on their music and the mellow yet piercing voice of David Sylvian.
Kris Twizzler Nope. Sexual ambiguity is cool! But actually I read in the 2004 liner notes to the Quiet Life remaster that this is about the band's meeting with their record company after their first two albums flopped. Anyone's entitled to their opinion.
Kris Music The song is sung from the point of view of their then manager, Simon Napier Bell, who was querying the band's need to take time out. The "Boys" refrain is Napier Bell talking to the band.
Mick's fretless basslines are legendary and severely overlooked but I understand due to their non exposure here in the states.
Glad to see the original vid back up again. Thanks for posting.
This song is so underrated
David Sylvain is absolutely beautiful. Now I know how Nick Rhodes got his look.
played this for a girlfriend who was into Duran Duran, kind of shattered her worldview.
+MobiusBandwidth find a girl w/ a decent taste in music who can back this and you might have a keeper.
oh she liked it! we broke up for other reasons, but are still close friends.

METAL GEAR SOLID V: THE PHANTOM PAIN
Best example of a band pulling itself up by it's bootstraps, went from glam funk on to something more
Hideo Kojima Brought me here ... The Phantom pain ;)
