One of my favourite things about being human (I haven't seen the US version) is that most vampires looked like completely ordinary people, as opposed to the seductive or intimidating monsters
Shows from the UK generally just have normal looking people in general. I kind of appreciate that as an American where 99% of peolle are 20-40 year old models.
I love both versions of the show. I will say the UK version lost me towards the end when it was clearly falling apart and they were trying desperately to hold on. As a result the USA version feels like a more focused and complete story.
When it was finalized that there was a whole new lineup of vampire, ghost and werewolf, it should have ended there, the cycle repeated itself. The ending was confusing and OTT.
Agreed, i preferred the American version. Which is saying something as I'm a Scot. I never finished the uk version, when they replaced everyone I fell off watching.
Loved this show when it first came out. Did get little bit crazy by the end. But was a great dynamic between the three characters. Ultra violet is another British vampire TV show , didn't run for very long but has idnris Elba in it really good and different take on vampire.
You should look at the Vampires from Young Dracula, it's a kids show but the vampires and the lore around them in that show is really interesting. I loved it show as a kid! This video was great and Being Human was awesome!
YES, I've been waiting so long for this. I prefer the UK version but the US version has it's appeal. To me, these are the most realistic and scary portrayal of these monsters, not in that they seem plausible in our world but more so that if classic monsters like these existed in our world they'd be as portrayed on the show.
The vampires depicted in this show are my favourite of all time, I love how they are almost like addicts. So human yet so animalistic given the circumstances. It really shows the sadness and depression of actually being a vampire.
Absolutely love this show, especially Aidan Turner and Stephen Moffat. Also the actor who played the devil. And his TV speech about humanity was scarily spot on. Just *chef's kiss* It did get a little weird after season 3, like you said, but I was able to get back into it fairly well, and it ended strong! I also appreciate that it didn't get dragged out forever and ever. (Supernatural is prolly my fav TV show ever, but not so much Seasons 12-15)
Oh, Cogan, since you're reading vampire books I suggest reading: The Pureblood Society. It's a book that's come out in the past few years (it was also written by a friend). It has some shocking scenes and a curious perspective on the supernatural world (as I think it's just the first book in her series).
The werewolf transformation s for George are on par with an American werewolf in London..( 1981)...Rick Baker would be proud of the practical effects on this show.
Great series, great essay, fab! I prefer the UK version, probably for seeing it first but was glad for it getting a broader recognition. And I think (western) Vampires are depicted more feudal and Werewolves more rural, which makes for nice social commentary;o) Now a couple for your consideration: - The Gates (vampires, werewolves, succubus in suburbia, hidden gem imo) - Dreden Files (decent adaptation, werewolves, lycanthropes, hexenwolves and loup garou) - Jekyll (UK), Jekyll & Hyde (transmogrification, both great in their own regards) - Lost Girl, Trese (Aswang, Shifter) - Wellington Paranormal (What we do in the Shadows (movie) spin-off) - Death Valley (werewolves, vampires, zombies mockumentary) - Hex, Discovery of Witches (Nephalim) - Sanctuary (N. And explains why so many fairy tales have a Hans/Jack^^ Cheers!
Something you missed (and I don't blame you, cause it seems most people did) is that before George the werewolf died, he was beginning to grow stronger and stronger, even in his human form. Usually Mitchell is far stronger than George, but there was a scene where George and Mitchell argued, and George gripped Mitchell's arm. Mitchell tried to casually pull away, but found himself unable to, and even complained that he was hurting him, visibly confused as to how that was even possible. Sadly, since the main cast were all replaced and the plot got what basically amounts to a reboot, we never got to find out what that meant, and why George was slowly growing stronger even in his human form, to the point of being stronger than a vegan vampire. The werewolves introduced later had some animal traits while in human form, but they were also clearly strong cafe fighters, so it's a lot harder to tell if their strength was just the strength of a naturally strong human fighter, or enhanced by being a werewolf (especially since they weren't normal people even without the werewolf blood, living more like wolves pretending to be human, than humans with a curse) But I will never not be annoyed that such a great show got the Sugababes treatment, and had the entire cast replaced, as if anyone was gonna watch what amounted to a completely different show, wearing the skin of a dead show we used to love.
To add to that, McNair was not a fighter at first. He was a business man. He turned into the fighter he was after turning into a werewolf. So there maybe some validity to what you're saying. I think the only difference watch the rest of them develop the way that we watch George develop throughout the series. McNair does have an episode were they go over his origins. We don't know much about Tully and all the back story we get about his is George related. Tom was turned as a child. Nina was pregnant a good portion of her time in the series and didn't stay long enough to be developed. I am almost thinking the added strength comes every time a werewolf kills a vampire.

Happy to see this. “Being Human” was a great show, made on a shoestring budget but bursting with creativity and heart. The only thing I disagree with in this review is that I don’t think drinking blood makes vampires incapable of feeling remorse or guilt; it just weakens their capacity for these things. Hence why Mitchell keeps trying to go clean.
Technically what the older werewolf say is true, every-time that you have an injury, like breaking one your bones, when the wound heal, the bone is stronger, that is what martial artist use to make stronger their limbs and have a far pain threshold, but is more easy than done, because you have to support a lot of pain to rise your threshold, you feel like all your body is screaming.
In the 90s, there was a series called Ultraviolet. It was on Channel 4, I think, in the UK and was directed, again I think, by Joe Aherne. It starred a young Idris Elba and Jack Davenport (from Pirates of the Caribbean). I don't know if you've seen it but it's worth a watch 🧛

I drink in the New Found out, the pub featured in Being Human. I know it sounds stupid but the locals can be pretty strange & the areas where the rest of the series took place apart from the last 2 all have dark pasts . For example the real slave caves under St Mary Readcliffe Cathederal were used, a water pumping station hut on the grounds of Ashton Court where the werewolf changes was used as a hideout in the woods for a local murderer on the run. Strange program indeed, a lot of local background & inside information was used which is why it is so intreguing & compelling. M

@@Kuzaki1530 oh for real that does sound a bit messy , would say it worth continuing the show pass Season 3 or from a old fan to a new fan would you say stop watching once you finish Season 3 ?
I watched the US version only so I appreciate this. I know a thing or two about world folklore and general supernatural beliefs that may answer some of these questions. Crosses and religious symbols - it is believed that these symbols, like anything that's supposed to ward off supernatural entities, do not have innate power in themselves, but depend on the conviction and intention of whoever is using them or made them (which I think is why Mitchel can wear George's cross). Wooden stakes - it is believed that Wood is a substance that absorbs strong energies (which is why we knock on wood to avoid jinxing something), so maybe the wood aborbs their cursed energy, preventing them from regenerating, or something like that. I have a lot more, but i forgot at the time of writing this lol
Being human was such a good show, the ghost lady made the English one, also when the werewolf dudes forces a shift on the picture of a moon by sheer force of will was the single most badass thing I have ever seen but I also kinda liked the american one
Wow, that book series actually sounds interesting! Why does it have to be like 8 books though? :( Anyway, I always thought the premise of Being Human was a good idea, but I've never given it a watch. I'm American, so I'd probably watch the American version, but I'm always down to watch non-American shows & movies. I love subbed anime and IT Crowd is one of the funniest shows I've watched.

Finally! Yeah 4 & 5 go a bit off the rails, but I love that universe. I love that the show really is about trying to live a human life, & all the ways their specific conditions can interfere with that goal. Are you gonna try to cover the U.S. version?
Is season 5 worth five because I'm watching the show for the first time and I see that they get a whole new cast for Season 5 and I don't think I wanna see new characters, so would you say season 5 is worth watching despite having new characters ?
@@roderick8167 It falls off after S3, much less “grounded”.🤔 The cast changes as soon as S4. They do try to ease you into the transition, although it feels more like the house is a bit crowded. But it never feels quite right.
@@Kuzaki1530 oh for real that does sound a bit messy , would say it worth continuing the show pass Season 3 or from a old fan to a new fan would you say stop watching once you finish Season 3 ?
@@roderick8167 I’d say you can stop after S3. You’ve seen all the greatest hits at that point.
@@Kuzaki1530 Ok cool, thanks for the tip man
Loved this series
brilliant writing and acting
I loved the design of the UK werewolves compared to the US one. The UK was a slightly darker show but they were both good.
I had no idea Gatiss was in this. Im going to have to watch this now.
I desperately wish I could gather the attention to watch this show again. In fact, this may be the last show I was able to binge like a crazy person.
Vampires have the heightened sense of smell. So they either smell doggy or lack of smell from ghosts, being able to determine what they are.
Great review, thank you.
Being human was such a good show, the ghost lady made the English one, also when the werewolf dudes forces a shift on the picture of a moon by sheer force of will was the single most badass thing I have ever seen but I also kinda liked the american one
That was such an epic moment
@@coganLollins still gives me chills
@@papafiendish6263 It was badass to me how brutaly George in his wolf form killed Herrick you can just hear the sounds as George rips him limb by limb
The show Bitten and the movie Chocolate and blood I would love to hear you talk about them. Chocolate and Blood is an underrated.
AMAZING BEST SHOW OF ALL TIME 🥰❤️❤️❤️
The series was outstanding...
I was hoping this was going to cover the U.S. version; which I really enjoyed. I've never seen it's original counterpart but it's on my list to watch
Vampire are a mix of snake mosquito and human 😂😂😂
If the vampire get good nose use fart spray to protect yourself 😂
1:08 aidan turner is such a beauty. loved him as killi in The Hobbit
He left Being Human to do the Hobbit, so I actually have a little disdain for that movie lol
Definitely binging this
I remember when this was on, you know back when TV was good. 😉 Blessings from Scotland. 🙏🏴✌️
Do the movie “ he never died” awesome movie vampire
BBC's Being Human was fantastic! I couldn't get through the first episode of the American version.
Werewolves rule
Wow, that book series actually sounds interesting! Why does it have to be like 8 books though? :( Anyway, I always thought the premise of Being Human was a good idea, but I've never given it a watch. I'm American, so I'd probably watch the American version, but I'm always down to watch non-American shows & movies. I love subbed anime and IT Crowd is one of the funniest shows I've watched.
Make one about Salem's Lot!!!!
Old Nick is another name for the Devil, Saint Nick is Santa's name, if you rearrange "Santa" you get "Satan", *Ghost Sounds*. I probably might check this Series out since this is my first time ever hearing about it.
I really enjoy your videos, could you please make a video about the vampires from the video game Vampyr. Thanks
The devil character kinda reminds me of jacob rotschild :))
Do the creatures from teen wolf next
