Thank you Dan Staples & Jeff Walker for the wonderful presentation on Solid Edge 2023, great to see the new enhancements to streamline product design. This release has everything #Cloud #SaaS #AR #Simulation #CAM #GenerativeDesign #Electricalrouting #PCB #datasecurely #interoperability MORE...
I used to work at Siemens. What a great place to work at. I liked it. I liked even more the SE community edition that came with a BS-free license for hobbyists. However, what you've done is not acceptable. The license now expires every three years. What if you change your mind in future and there won't be any community edition available anymore? Well, then all my data would go to scrap. I have already burnt my hands with DraftSight when DS scrapped the linux version and remotely killed all free versions. I used to avoid F360 for the very same reason and evil business practices. Now, my favorite petrol-green logo does this... I need to start looking for an alternative. Siemens, Siemens.... :-(
Hi @John Doe - we checked on this question of licensing you bring up, and there's been a misunderstanding. The license will "expire", but a new license can be downloaded at any time. We've also updated our web page to reflect the misleading information. Thank you for flagging to help us clarify! #TeamSiemens
@@SiemensSoftware Hi #TeamSiemens, thank you for your feedback and reply here on YT. I value it a lot. The way I understand your licensing policy is the following. To use Solid Edge community edition I have to obtain (download) a new license every three years. This means that I solely rely on your corporate decision if you keep supporting the community edition or not. I would also need to download likely the most recent version of the SE CE. There is a high chance that in a couple of years, executives at Siemens decide that the community edition should generate revenue too. This has happened a few times with your competitor's products. I understand the business behind it. I also understand why perpetual licensing is a nightmare for software creators. However, most engineers, including myself, are still conservative and avoid the cloud, subscription-based licensing, and permanent online telemetry. I need to be in control of my software including the version. Perpetual licensing is the only way for me. Believe it or not, I still occasionally run a 16-year-old virtual machine because of the software I bought back then. I understand #Siemens provides the community edition for free and by no means do I have the right to criticize you. However, you used to GIVE the community edition. Now, you LEND it for an undefined time. That's how I feel about the change. I saw on your forum I am not the only one sharing the disappointment. Kind regards, John
I need a sponsor to learn in siemens laboratories. I want to be a solid edge expert and hired on their companies too. But, I haven't any access to do that. I live in rural dwelings and no effiecient laptop/desktop!
Will the solid edge 2023 version have point cloud interactivity? In Industry 4.0 uses this technology in engineering solutions. Will we have this solution in this 2023 version?
1. You would first make an interface that would not be 5 years behind in design and intuitiveness compared to other cad . 2. Then finalize the work with base things like sketches, if you do not have enough imagination, look at the Inventor.
Hi - Thank you for your question. The Solid Edge Community Edition 2022 is available now. Solid Edge Community Edition 2023 will be available after this quarter (in January 2023).
@@manueldurbano9582 You're welcome. Just note that the CE is not lifetime license anymore. As I jsut discovered, Siemens changed the licensing policy starting with the SE CE 2022. It expires every three years. In case they change their mind you're in trouble... Have a great day too.

Looks like a great idea. Even a hobbyist version "Solid Edge Community". NOPE not so fast, crap for support! NOWHERE is there any help for part libraries. Tutorials get into assemblies, but stop short of telling how to install or access the one crucial function of building or downloading this one widget. Sorry guys. IF you are going to say you are giving the little guy a break, the bridge has to go ALL the way across.
I think they made it much harder to use and wish my company would go back to 2022. Everyone I have talked to here doesn't like the changes and thinks it it is harder to use.
Hi Jared - we're sorry that you are finding it more difficult to use. Our team would like to learn more about the specific issues. If you fill out the form here: sie.ag/3oNvSgc, a Solid Edge expert will reach out to you directly. Thanks
Always exciting to see what's new

Great version, it will solve many challenges!
Amazing presentation!

Could you compare your product (SolidEdge 2023) with SolidWorks and AutoCAD. Pros and cons. Thank you!
