Port Phillip FOGO

  • In August 2020, the City of Port Phillip conducted a FOGO kerbside bin trial to approximately 500 residents in Elwood. Fast forward to February 2023 and FOGO Green-Waste bins were rolled out to the entire council. Last week I found myself over in Port Melbourne filming the new FOGO collection, but also went out to film 1 of 2 LEV trucks that Four Seasons Waste runs in Port Phillip.
Since the new service started, Four Seasons Waste has assigned the 2 LEV Acco Superior Pak Raptors and a Rear Loader for FOGO. Makes sense sending a single driver out in the run, as there isn't many FOGO bins out and the driver can get in and out of the truck easily to get the bin behind a car or blocked access. It's a lot more practical and probably a job best suited for the LEV's. This truck has had its day though, very neglected and not looked after if you look at things with a closer eye, but it still holds up and goes alright.
Port Phillip takes their Green-Waste to the Cleanaway Brooklyn Resource Recovery center where it is then loaded on to a transfer trailer and sent to the Cleanaway South East Organics facility in Dandenong.
Unfortunately, time is almost up for Four Seasons Waste in Port Phillip and the area will feel very different when Citywide takes over in July. Four Seasons Waste are well known for the Port Phillip contract and have ran it for a very long time now. The driver in the truck was happy I was out there filming him driving the LEV truck and it was his second time being in one too. Enjoy!!! ;) ;) ;)

Can't really remember the last time I watched a low entry ACCO side loader in action, quite a refreshing sight given how crazy rare these are now! Sweet to see this legend behind the wheel of a side arm as well, been years since he starred in those videos of the Atlas trucks. He seems like some kind of "super garbo" hey! =P Was doing pretty good with bin presentation, almost like somebody was pulling the bins out for him hehe There was never anything visually exciting about these FSW Port Phillip trucks, council logo on the back and company logo on the front, otherwise plain white. Somehow I think my interest in the new Port Phillip trucks will be about zero once CityWide takes over... can't see them bringing an extraordinary fleet into the spotlight or anything. Sort of weird seeing the lime green lid bins in this council when I used to only see garbage and recycle, damn you guys have been quickly pumping out the FOGO in Melbourne lately!

It had been years since I went down to Port Phillip and filmed one of these Superior Paks but now that everything will be wrapping up, thought it might be good to revisit and capture what I can. I did set up a few of the bins, more so I can get clips of him moving along in the streets. Yeah a lot of councils are jumping on the trend but I have noticed a lot of people still do their Green-Waste fortnightly rather than weekly and you can notice this when you do a certain run for a period of time.

Nice one, I gotta get brown there to film this too.
    Here’s a rumour for ya:
After talking to a driver he said FSW may have the contract for an extension of 3 months and Citywide takes over in November. Due to how stuffed Citywide are in there current two (really 1.5) contracts, also there lack of drivers for port Phillip.
Don’t quote me on this tho as it may not be 100% true.
