      Fenders held up great! I think the landing gear supported some of the weight when it fell.

    Just my two cents but it sounds like someone pulled the king pin while he was sleeping. That’s a shitty situation but we always have those haters that don’t like the fact we have free trucks that want to see someone fail or do bad. Glad no one was hurt everything looks great, so you want you sold me on those fenders I’ll definitely be putting a set of those on my truck after going through that great contact. Look forward to seeing you guys at mats.

    I don't know all the details of the incident and, I don't need them. All I can say is don't get too rushed, too tired, or complacent on the job. I've been trucking for 14 years now. And yes even then.....I have dropped a trailer before myself. When you think you're doing fine and don't do that final inspection....it will bite you in the ass, every time. I'm very happy there was minimal damage, here. Get your show truck fixed and start making that money again, driver! I bet you won't do this again. What a testimony to those fenders. WOW!!

  • @johnmorris7960
    @johnmorris7960 Год назад +1

    If the kingpin did come down that frame rail and it does look that way, the weight that was put on the fender really wasn't the weight of the trailer because the kingpin was supporting it as it slid off the truck. You can hype up the strength of the fenders for being strong and I am sure they are but this looks like a very lucky outcome for the rear deck plate and fenders. Glad the damage was very limited. Beautiful truck guys!

    Is it even possible for your 5th feel to unlock and drop the trailer? or is this certainly a drivers mistake for not checking to see if the pins were locked before driving?

    • @anthonyaubuchon765
      @anthonyaubuchon765 Год назад +2

      No, the way the fifth wheel is designed it can not just come unhooked. If it is latched properly, something has to break before the trailer becomes free on its own. So either he didn't do a tug test to make sure it was fully latched or some Yahoo pulled his pen when he was parked and he didn't check it.

    • @anthonyaubuchon765

      @Ben Cojo You say that, but I watched a guy pull someone's pin after he pulled forward from getting fuel. As soon as he walked away from his truck to get his fuel ticket, the guy walked over and pulled it and went back to his truck. I called the cops and blocked him in with my truck until the cops showed up. As soon as the driver came back out, I let him know and told him he shouldn't fix it until the cops got there. I don't really know why he did it. All I know for sure is he was sure pissed off that I was in front of him. My guess is he was trying to catch it on his dash cam for Bonehead truckers or something. I don't know how it turned out. Once I gave the cops my statement and sent him the video of my dash cam, I was able to go. I know the driver sure was thanking the hell out of me. Because of that, I have made it routine to glance at my handle every time I climb in the truck.

    Im not sure what brand they were but they were a plastic fender that was painted and put on a log truck i drove and they took an absolute beating from chains and logs hitting them and the never cracked. The paint obviously didn’t hold up but the fenders were impressive

    Shit happens. All these keyboard “professionals” need to take a breath and step back. I’ve driven trucks for 30 years and several million miles, accident free, and I’m here to tell you that even the best of us can make a mistake and drop a trailer. Looks to me like it could of been a whole lot worse, but the driver wasn’t hot-rodding it, and the worst of it was just some cosmetic damage and maybe a bit of a bruised ego. I’m willing to bet money that he doesn’t make this same mistake again.

    • @jcsully
      @jcsully Год назад

      A "tug" test isn't the best way to check your fifth wheel. Visual inspection is the only way to be sure. In 38 years, I've tugged on many fifth wheels that passed the old tug test. But, weren't locked properly. You have to look.

    Definitely sucks butt that the kingpin let go .Overall the fenders held up well. If not these fenders on my truck I would run minimizer ones they are dang near bulletproof. Only bad part you can't really paint the minimizer ones but you can get them in some colors and a carbon fiber look,

    • @uliwehner
      @uliwehner Год назад +1

      replacements are a grand, and they need to be painted anyway. By the time you cut out the damaged sections, fix them, bodywork them, you spend a whole day in the shop. New ones is faster and they are new afterwards.

  • @wyatt12358
    @wyatt12358 Год назад

    should be able to fix with fiberglass pads and glue and some bondo. IS THE 5TH WHEEL HITCH BROKEN OR JUST DRIVERS MISTAKE? I HAVE HAD GOOD LUCK WITH THE PLASTIC MINIMIZERS. BROKE A LEVELING VALVE ONCE GOING DOWN THE ROAD ONCE AND THE TIRE RUBBED A HOLE THROUGH.

    WTF one needs to replace it with a new one anyway. I personally don't see what's so special in fenders like that. I think a set if Hogebuilt Stainless Steel half fenders on a Peterbilt truck look as good or better the right brackets painting to match the frame look as if they belong on the truck. Go with the deeper drop fender on the front of them & you have a awesome look that also does the job the were really meant for in the 1st place.The Best of Both Worlds.
