Amen, Ross. I don't think personnel is ever really the problem. If you've got the right coach, (eventually) you find the winning roster, but in the meantime you maximize what you have. If you have the wrong coach (us), you call your rookies busts, blame pro--bowlers for slumping and generally have a negative vibe throughout the entire year. Hey New Orleans, if Dennis Allen had the 2017 draft, he would still miss the playoffs. That's why we are asking our new offensive coordinator to essentially be the head coach, and we're asking our head coach to stay away from the offense.
It's tough, WR corps got a little better depth wise imo (St Brown + Wilson are better than Kirkwood + Bowden), same with linebacker (Gay is better than Baun), but the Oline is a nightmare and everything else is kind of up in the air. I'm mostly worried about the lack of additions to the Oline and running back room, but we'll have to see how it plays out.
To me this all comes down to the O-Line issues from last season. Did the teAm at this point in fact fix that group? No. Fuaga was a great pick, but he is only replacing Ram. McCoy is the only teliable starter from last year that earned his pay. I dont trust Penning to improve enough to be a competent LT. That is just too much to ask of our new OL coach. We dont have a quality LG on the team and Ruiz has to prove last season wasnt his old self coming back since he got paid. I have my doubts about him. Asking Kubiak to make his system work with this O-Line a lot. To even have a chance tgey need to sign and/or trade for quality starters at LT and LG. Thats the only chance Kubiak's system has to work. Just saying.
I know I’m might be way off here. I believe Pistol Pete got overwhelmed with responsibility of trying to involve every special talent on that offense. In reality, he should have focused on the identity of the team by a consistent game planning of two to three core players for example: Kamara, Olave, Johnson or Kamara, Olave, Hill etc. And then make in game adjustments with sprinkling in other players.
5 wins last season and this team is a division winner hosting a playoff game.. Coaching cost this team last season. Strengthening the O-line can solidify a solid team which in turn can bring about a better outlook of what a Kubiak runned offense will look like.
this is true provided they in fact do strengthen the O-Line. Right now it actually looks even weaker than last year. The new OL coach has a lot to fix and they give teams very little practice time to work with guys now.
@@KevinFitzpatrick-fh8ssthe scheme is sappost to cover up some flaws but it sappost to elevate oline play regardless of talent it’s up to the coaches to put the team in position to succeed imo
@moshegoldbergTheKing you can’t judge a guy playing less then 20 snaps sir that’s not enough sample size to tell you where a player is at he played 18 snaps that game not enough a sample size
Ross, analysis like this is why I can’t subscribe to this channel. You attended almost every game last year! You were there!! You witnessed firsthand the offensive administrative debacle that was Pete Carmichael and Doug Marrone. It looks as if the subpar off-season belongs to you dude. We replaced a RT held together by generic bandaids and a toxic wr who didn’t produce anything other than a highly publicized construction crew escalation. We addressed the OC that couldn’t move the chains and kept the defense on the field. Our TOP has instantly improved regardless of the OL. We have an OC that will attack the line to gain more than the LOS. We replaced the OL coach that once earned a HC job but proved to be every last bit as complacent as PC. Did they not teach you cause and effect in freshman English class?? We’ve been improved since before the draft by default and we put some great pieces in place with the rookie class. If we win the SB, I’ll treat it as a massive success, but if we win the the division and merely make the playoffs, I will measure this season in “how wrong Ross was”. Git gud bruh.
Carr has a middle of the road contract and produced middle of the road numbers. He won’t elevate the team but he won’t hurt it either. New offensive design will change that.
Top 9 in scoring is better than middle of the road. They were "elevated" from 22nd to 9th in 1 year and he was top 10 in touchdowns thrown despite several subpar games earlier in the season. Won't mean much if we lose in the trenches this year. 🤷🏿♂️
How is this not a better roster? We picked up Cedric Wilson who I think is underated signing , gay Jr is gonna be a stud in my opinion . Spencer rattler has the potential to be a future star quarter based on talent much higher ceiling than the rest we had . Plus chase young , Kool aid who just might be a generational db, himself , we just drated the best pass rush blocker in this draft . I think we've improved dramatically
Addressed each of those in the show: Rookies unknown, so can’t say whether it’s an improvement or not. Hopefully is though. Said that LB improved Backup QB doesn’t improve your starting lineup. So instead of trying to inflate guys unfairly, I casted all rookies as unknowns for the exercise.

Thanks Ross. Agree. OL still giant mess. Only 2 free agents brought in that worth it ( DE, LB) rest waste of space and money. DC seems to have trouble picking up new offenses. Last yr couldn't run the ball and couldn't stop the run, didn't do any thing to change.Too many ifs and ?

Ross I disagree with your take on the D-Line. I think it did get noticeably better. No matter how you feel about Chase young adding a guy who’s only 24 and got 7.5 sacks last year to a team who had one of the least amount of sacks in the league is huge deal man
That’s totally fine! Like I said about DL “I think that’s a place that might have improved? Maybe you can say that.” So really we agree. Just need to see Young be healthy after the neck procedure is all. Not discounting that signing, I showed it love. Just not gonna put my whole weight behind it when we don’t know anything about the readiness to start the season just yet us all.
Hurst retired. Peat signed with the Raiders. Ram is basically done as a player. Fuaga will replace Ram, but the test of the O-Line is a major question mark right now. But I do like Risner as an LG option.
I’m questioning weather they are better than they were last year, veterans left, rookies or second year players on OLine.new offense, Dennis Allen still there
