I did this the other week on a Yamaha QS300 workstation keyboard. All the videos online show the PCB circuit traces being cut to the old light, but this seems to cut the power to the new light too. So in my case I had to solder two additional wires from the 5v / Gnd connections direct to the new light panel. Worked fine once I did that.
glad you got it working, normally two wires come from the invertor and solder straight to the backlight and you just swap from them from the old to new backlight. thanks for your comment and support bangers and chumley
@@takethefearoutthegear6229 Yeah the videos I saw instructed me to cut the PCB power traces to the dead invertor. I assumed that would provide full power to the new backlight strip, and therefore full brightness. I was surprised when I found it cut the power completely though. Also those videos did not warn about very fine PCB tracks nearby to where they were cutting. Luckily I did not cut through those, as they would be impossible to fix, and then the repair would have been £100 not £15! Again luckily I went REALLY slowly and tried to avoid doing anything hasty.
@@EgoShredder good plan, if possible when changing backlights always have a multimeter handy so when you unsolder the old backlight, you can switch the machine on again making sure the no wires are touching the you can see if you have power from the invertor before installing the new backlight. never heard of cutting traces on pcb sounds drastic. You can also buy replacement invertors as well hope this helps bangers and chumley
1:07 Do you remember these washers, are they only on top side or on bottom side as well? Mine has 6 washers and I'm not sure if they all go to top side (2 for each screw) or 3 to top side and 3 to bottom. Cheers
@@suadcokljat1045 sorry can’t remember it’s been a while
I'm replacing mine with a brand new LED
