We were poor in the early 90s because we had moved as refugees and left everything behind and only gradually collected more stuff as my parents worked and saved up. So to get us started, my mom's coworkers gave her a bunch of their old stuff for our home. It was amazing mid-century stuff in a mishmash of colors, including one of those old, old televisions that came inside a wooden box/credenza-like thing and would take a few seconds for the picture to come on. Looking back, it's like the chicest thing ever! I have a frame TV now and it just could never reach that level of chic ;)

In Spain we have a wall-mounted drying rack mounted to the wall over the sink (high enough that you don't hit your head when doing dishes... imagine like the hood over an oven), and the rack has a slotted bottom to it so the drips drip into the sink. Pretty good design for space and preventing water from going everywhere.

I’m so with you on having stylish utility items in the home. I never use sponges, just microfibre cloths, but they fit in an open shelf of the same colour. Dish cloths can be washed hot, so I use a fresh one every day. If they have little holes I darn them, because this particular green is no longer produced. Much more sustainable and probably more hygienic than sponges.

Something I like about your design sense it that you seem to like “cinematic” items. Items that photograph well and add interest but aren’t necessarily what my mom would call stylish. These practical items add flare and design by being useful and beautiful in a more industrial sense.

Im much older than you and have to say that those laundry bags on wheels are amazing b/c you don't have to bend down as far to pick-up the laundry. My wheeled one has the bag at about 2 feet off the ground.... love it.

Hi Page, I can finally add something to your video. In my house, instead of buying bath mats we use table mats/place mats. You can find much cuter ones, they are already waterproof and usually come in a set so you can replace them when washing or get damaged. However they tend to be small so it's just the size of the feet.
    Love your content!!

I'm not here to extend my vocabulary. Your ideas are clearly communicated and I enjoy what you have to say about design. Those people are pedantically looking to criticise.

I looked for a shower curtain for SO long and finally found one I love, it’s a peach checkerboard pattern from urban outfitters! I would also recommend target and society6

Here in switzerland, mostly, kitchen trash bins are included in a big drawer. So you never see them. I think that's quite useful and pretty :)

Hi Paige--Also live in and love Chicago. Just discovered your channel and think you're the best. Have been despairing about where to find real fabric here and was so happy that you talked about the fabric outlet in Pilsen. I went right over and besides seeing a fun new neighborhood, was reassured that there were other options in this big city than the craft stores. Laughed seeing this video because I too am picky about every little thing in my place down to the trash cans, laundry bin and step stool (am on about my 5th one) and also love my yellow sponge daddy with it's big goofy smile. Thanks!

For laundry baskets, I don't use one. I just have a bin I put under the bed. Kitchen sponges give me the ick so I use a dish towel (best for getting grease and oil off) and a scrub brush.

I inherited a few tea towels from Grandma. But in the early 2000s I bought tea towels, pot holders, and dish cloths from the Thomas O’Brien line at Target. They are 100% cotton and made in Turkey. In all these years no holes or tears. 🎯
