Great tutorial. Concise, precise and vocalized well. Thanks for posting.
I can't believe how much attention this video has been getting over the past few months and its amazing. I recently added this string art to my website, jtwoodworks.org, so if you guys want to buy your own, now you can!
thanks Jack the best tutorial
Thank you!
This is amazing can’t wait to try it !!
Loved this video, and the cool end result. My only complaint is that the audio cut out almost completely about halfway through. Thanks for sharing.
I’m sorry that you were having trouble with the audio. I really need to get a microphone so when I do, the audio will sound much better. I have some videos that I’m currently editing so I’ll make sure that the audio quality is better than this video.
Beautiful work, Thanks for sharing.
Uau!!!! Parabéns!!! Ficou perfeito! Vou tentar fazer.
Great tutorial Jack hope u do more..... Whiskers Wayne 😊
I'm doing this design on a significantly smaller scale, and this video was really helpful for me to understand how it all goes together. Thank you. ^_^
I’m m glad it was able to help. Hope it turned out good!
Do you know what your board width and length was for you scale? approximately?
I sure wish i could hear what you were saying.
That would have been helpful.
(The artwork caught my eye)
Good job.
I'm sorry that you weren't able to hear the audio, I'm working on getting a microphone.
It's just waoo appreciate
So beautiful.
Hello Jack. I did some string art when I was about 5 years old in school, I am now about to turn 71. I am really wanting to do some string art but don't have a clue about how to achieve the look I would like. I love the art Deco era and have just decorated my living room in touches of it. It was all about shapes then. Arches and curves but also boxes and lines. I just don't have a clue how to go about this. Can you help. You have been the only tutorial that really caught my eye. Also, well done with that piece as it looks stunning. Shirley from the UK.
It’s very beautiful ✨
Thank you!
very good
Thank you!
Hi from Canada .
I would love to try and make a beautiful piece of artwork, like yours. Maybe you could tell me where the best place is to buy nails. I have been looking online. They seem to be a bit pricey.
Hope you can help me .
Love your work😊
I generally purchase them from Home Depot. Although, I don’t know if this store is in your area. You really only need 1 inch, or 2.5 cm long picture hanging nails. For a pack of 200, it should cost you more than $5.
@JackWood25 Thank-you, yes there is a Hone Depot near me. I will definitely check it out. I can't wait to get started 😃
Badass!!
I love how you start with feet and inches for the size of the plywood, then quickly changed for centimeters for the distance between nails hahaha Thank you for the tutorial, that's the best one I found, even 3 years later! I'll try one now hope it will end up as good as yours!
I know, I was all over the place with measurements. I’m want to make an updated video with better instructions.
Such a wonderful work but can you show us a little nearer to the camera how u brought up the colours just watched up and wanted to try it
Yes, I’ll be making another string art video very soon and I can promise that the video quality will be much better
Hey @Jack, I am a beginner and I would love to do it so much, may you please guide me, what kind of string should I use? Wood materials & I didn't get you well how many nails have putted from one nail to another, if it was cm to another or what.... Kindly assist.
The measurements are wrong on this video just so everyone knows. It’s not 19 1/4 like he states it’s supposed to be 50 cm wide which is about 19.7 inches. I just found out when I tried to draw my lines.
What type of threads should we use for this or projects similar to this? Also, how much do we need for this piece?
😲Excelente!
Good job!!!
how much dimension of playwood ?
WOW
Did it and came out beautiful!!!! Thank you for the guidance 🙏
You say that there are 109 marks needed in the diagonal. Do you count both of the corners as a mark? I did it exactly like you sad, but from corner to corner I do have 110 marks.
It’s okay if you have 110 marks. I’ve built this a few time before with more than 109 marks. Just keep following my video but when you add the last color, you’ll have one more nail to pass and you color may overlap at the middle of the diagonal line. If this is still confusing to you, I’m here to help.
And yes, count both corner marks.
Hi Jack, I’m a new subscriber, i would love to see you make a buffalo head Please🙏🏼
Would it be easier to use the ruler to find the 14th, 21st, 28th, etc nails since each point was a cm apart? I love this video. It helps to draw/paint them also. Although I’m thinking I might like to paint the background and use string art to intensify the shapes. Thanks so much, Jack.
Yes, it would be much easier to use a ruler to find all the marks. I didn't even think about that until I read your comment. I also really like your idea of painting the background then adding string. That might be one of my future videos! Thanks for your support.
Can you tell me the math how you figured out the nail count?
I bet this is not a trail and error.
Please let me know .
Nice
Thanks!
What size nails do you need and how thick is the thread?
It doesn't matter what size nails you use but I used 3/4 inch nails and the string is about 0.125 millimeters. I have a link in the description if you want to purchase the thread I used.
I can find the nails pretty easily but as I live in Germany they sometimes have different descriptions for the thread and wool than the US. It sounds like its really thin like you’d use to sew something like clothing or is it thicker? Could the thread fade?
I’d love to try this but not sure if I understood which nails to where:(. Maybe if i play it back on slow.
Yes the thread is very thin and it's used for sewing but you can also use thicker thread if you want. It's up to you to decide. The thread will most likely fade only if it is in direct sun light for multiple hours a day for many weeks. If you build one and display it inside, you should be fine. If you have any other questions, I'll gladly answer them.
Thunk you
Thank you for your support!
what kind of string and nails you use?
There is a link in the description for the type of string that I used and for the nails, I used 1 inch, picture hanging nails. Any type of nails work as long they’re under 1 inch long.
Cooles Video ich habe auch ein neues Video
Muy buen trabajo! Podría mejorar la filmación para ver bien los pasos. Gracias!
Hi I need your channel I'm going to subscribe this is my very first time so I'm really excited I love string art it's one of my favorite things and I'm thinking about doing something in my bedroom on the wall we have an agency kind of thing going so I was thinking about maybe some koi fish in a yin Yang or no I was just trying to think of something do you think you could make something like that? I'd love to go look at your shop and see what you have!
Thank you so much for guiding us, I love how you explained everything as it is,...most definitely going to try this one❤
Awesome! Hope your project turned out good!
Am love with this work..!! Please post more string art tutorials
No entendí nada de lo que dijo pero que belleza 😍
Siento que te haya costado entender el vídeo. En el futuro, definitivamente haré uno nuevo.
I know this is an old video. But i cant hear you, and the music is unnecessary and super loud
Sorry. Since posting this video, my camera gear and editing skills have become much better.
Love it! How do you know when you’re starting I new project how many nails to start off with or what number nail to start and end with?Thx!
woah epic at its finest epicness
Your comment is of most epicness, thanks!
Hey so I loved this video but im pretty sure 19 1/4 inches equals 48.895 centimeters. soooo If we're trying to put 50 nails down, one centimeter apart each, with a half centimeter border......
Sorry but I meant to say that the width is 19 3/4 inches. Got to say it to you though, nice for spotting that mistake!
Thank you for sharing this wonderful idea... 👍
Hi Jack!
Could you please tell me how long are the nails you used? How thick is the wood? ❤
Appreciate your help ✨
Can you make the scuba tank?
Sorry I haven’t made it yet, I’ve been really busy with school but it will be the next video that I post.
Ok 🙂🙂☺️
Hey mate. Could you please send me the dimensions again. I'm in nz and we do things differently. Just easier to read than listen and try and write down. Would greatly appreciate 🙏it.
Heyy, how long has the string to be per color ?
So I don’t know the exact length but I’m guessing that it’ll be around 90 feet. If you’re looking to get string for this projects just check The description and I’ve linked a website to where you can purchase the strings. Hope this helps!
What size nails did you use?
I used 1 inch long picture hanging nails.
Could you do a square, magic eye tutorial?? Love this design!! Thank You! 🤘
Great idea! I just looked up some photos and that projects looks awesome. I’ll get working on one as soon as possible. Thanks for the video suggestion!
I wish u could make it a bit slowly so that the beginners can follow it .
Sorry, this video is quite old. I'm planning on making a better, updated version.
I wont to learn this one can yu help me
can you try the same technique to display human face.
I can help you on that
Yeah, I’ll definitely try to make a human face. I’ve see video about them and they look pretty challenge but I think I’m up for it. Nice suggestion!
@@JackWood25 We can work together
I have written algorithm to extract what all nails to connect in order to get a face.

Thanks very much, it’s plenty to think over. Well done, you are very talented.
Thank you!
I love this!!! I used to do string art as a teen… here I am years later watching this and my ADD brain is saying, say huh do what?????
congratulations ... can I know the name of the wire? brand and thickness number ??
It's nice bro pleas show as how to do this on picture
I’m sorry but I don’t really understand what you’re saying. If you try rephrasing it, I might understand and could answer your question.
Quero fazer uma roupa de string e tirar dos pregos, sou de Salvador Bahia
Parece um projeto bem interessante. Penso em algumas ideias.
Wow. I’m very much interesting to make like these . Thank you.
It's a beautiful can you tell me which threads will be used
WOW, that is amazing. Good job. One thing though, I barely hear what you are saying, the music had taken over your voice. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your comment. I made this a few years ago when my editing skills weren't the best. Sorry if the quality was bad.
@JackWood25 do you have a specific high and type of nails you are using?
Already, just with the shadows at 3:30 😅
The volume is really up and down on this video. The music is too loud and I can't hear your voice
I know the audio isn't the best. Since posting this video, I've purchased a better camera with a real microphone.
Suggest having the music at a much lower volume in future. Your voice was almost inaudible while the music was obnoxiously loud when it cut in.
I know. This was not one of my best videos in terms of audio. Since I've posted this video, I've gotten a better camera with a professional rode microphone. Hopefully this setup will have both better audio quality and video quality.
Hey Jack, this is such a wonderful work, but I just wanted to ask you a question.. I’m planning to do this work but in a bigger size and I wanted to make it in a 150cm length and 65cm in width (or could you pls describe a suitable width) I would like to know what would be the dimensions for the nails and could you pls tell me from where I should start and also how much I would have to add in the diagonal line. Thank you so much for this video, it’s great 👍🏼
I’m glad to help but right now I have to study for some big tests that are coming up and I don’t have the time at the moments to measure and figure out the dimensions that you need. I’ll be able to get back to you tomorrow morning. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Ohh, that’s fine we’ll get back with you tmr. Thanks for the reply
Sorry to be responding so late but I think I figured out a solution for you. In my tutorial, I explained that there are 50 nails, 1 centimeter apart from each other and half a centimeter from the edge, on the top and bottom and 109 nails placed through the diagonal. I know that you want yours a little bigger than what I demonstrated. If I were you, I would keep adding nails on the top and bottom until you're half a centimeter away from the edge. Say I placed 60 nails. On the diagonal, I'll do the same. Add more nails until I reach the end. Say that I have 119 nails on the diagonal. Because I've added 10 nails to the diagonal and on both ends of the sheet of plywood, I would divide that by 2, to get 5, and add 5 more steps or loops to the string. When adding the string, in my demonstration I strung the white string around ten nails but since the board is bigger, I'll loop the string around 15 nails. Of course, this will be different because your board size will be different. Just to recap, count the number of nails that you'll add to the end and the diagonal, divide it by 2, then add that number when adding your string. If this is still confusing, just leave another comment.
Thank you for the message, we’ll try it out and let you know how everything went. Tysm Jack
@@tomymathew9100 no problem!
100 subscribers! Nice!
When I do string art I usually go from one nail at one side to the other side then I loop around the next nail on the same side before I go to the second nail at the first side. By doing it that way you will have more "parallel" lines which enhances the illusion giving it a more 3d effect.
Ahhh... sounds like a cool technique. I'm thinking about re-making this video so I'll make sure to remember this. Thanks!
Hi can you tell me the exact length and width of the wood?
What type of string do you use
Its just common sewing thread. There is a link to the string that I used in the description.
My son had some of this art on his apartment wall. I took several photos hoping I could get into this one day. It somehow reminds me of the heavens in a near death experience. I am her now and I believe you are my teacher.
I could do without the music. I've had to mute and follow the cc directions.
Sorry about the audio, hope your project turned out well.
what string are you using
I don't know off the top of my head but I left a link in the description to the exact string that I used.
Добрый вечер.У вас замечательные работы.Тоже хочу так научиться.
Very nice ❤️❤️❤️
Its very nice ;can i have this work pattern please
Can we get the thread on Amazon?
Yes, you can. I know this video is quite old but there should be a link in the description. If it doesn't work, let me know and I'll comment another amazon link to similar thread.
Bravo! Amazing art work...Thanks Jack.
What kind of string do you use?
I have a link in the description to the exact type of string that I used. It’s essentially string that you use to sew clothing, it’s very thin.
You could teach a course, I would love to take the course with you. Even if I don't speak English, but I think I could learn with translation.
That’s a great idea!
Very neatly n creatively done.. Perfect.. Wanna know.. Which number of thread used means thickness..
So sorry to be responding to your question this late but if you're making this project for yourself, the thickness of the thread is up to you. You can decide. If you want the thickness that I used, the thread is roughly .0163" or .414 mm. if you're wondering the number of the thread, I'm not sure what it is but I have a link in the description to the thread that I used for this project.
Very very beautiful 👏👏
Thank You!
How much
If your thinking about purchasing one, there is a link in the description to my website.
Hi. How much ?
You can check out me website for all the pricing and dimensions. It’s jtwoodworks.org
cou;dnt hear a thing
Sorry, this video is quite old and I made it when my editing skills weren't the best. I'd like to make an updated version.
from Argentina this is amazing!!!!!!!!
Maravilhoso!!!
The design is superb. But, sorry to say that audio quality was very bad and the person who was filming did not move the camera properly especially every new thread after tying the initial nail and then goes where could not make-out.
I'm sorry to hear that. This is one of my older videos and, since then, I've upgraded my video editing software which greatly improves audio quality. I've also been working on my filming techniques. Hopefully, in the future, my videos will be much better than this one.
Very interested,
Pleas can I know the thickness of the strings you are using?
There is a link in the description which has all the specifications about the string
Wonderful video, but i have a question, how do you calculate the number of nails for a project?
Basically what I do is for every centimeter, I add one nail. For example if there are 10 centimeters in a line, I would add 10 nails to that line. I also try to make the wooden board an even number so it’s easier to calculate the number and placement of the nails.
beautiful i also want to make this😀
❤❤❤
Love this but what kind of nails are you using? please
Sorry to be responding this late but the nails that I used are just 1 inch long, picture hanging nails.
Wow..love this❤.Can you plz tell me exact size of wooden board?
After I cut the sheet of plywood, the final dimensions of the board are 19 3/4 inches wide, 39 1/4 inches long, and 1/2 inches thick. Hopes this helps!
@@JackWood25 thank you
@@Abc12345xyz No problem!
In the video you said 19 1/4 by 39 3/4 but then you say 19 3/4 by 39 1/4. So which one is right?
Using your video measurements, I got 111 nails in the diagonal. So im assuming dimentions you have written here will give you 109 nails?
Nice
Love the art work but could hear you
Very cool design. Keep it up. Thanks for giving us the clue.
Glad you enjoyed the video! Thanks for your support!
Nice videos but can someone help with the dimensions of the wood in centimeters

Width: 50 cm
Thickness: 1.27 cm (1/2 inches)
