This man is a legend. I honestly consider him to be one of the greatest composers of all time. The way he references older melodies and just go all out with his writing. The music completely stands on its own without the game. But then when you include the game, it all comes together to form a true masterpiece. He is the only artist that can consistently give me goosebumps with just a single phrase on a piano.
This is what made halo games so awesome! You could HEAR the resemblence from the older titles in the newer ones :) and you were like "Oh my gawd I've goosebumps cause i know this one" :D
Wow, I saw this video over ten years ago and lost it, and I just found it again! I wish there were more of him playing his themes and explaining what he was thinking.
Martin is my inspiration to make music, I was born too late to really experience the golden age of halo, I really only got glimpses, but after reconnecting with my interests 6-8 years ago, I’ve been playing, watching, reading, listening to everything halo, I truly believe, because of all the passion, hardship, and interest of the people behind the game, it has become the greatest game ever, I can’t think of something more interesting than halo, before I die, I want to meet marty, he really shaped me and developed my interests over these years.
Damn, talk about RUclips algorithms recommend resurrecting videos from the grave. This is ANCIENT in terms of internet years. Still as fantastic as the day it was released, I'm sure. I miss all the old hype Bungie Halo games had. All the H3 advertising should go into some historic cultural archive.
I actually thought the emotion and feeling he put in the music made the games really put you into the setting and direness of the game. He also seems like a good enough fellow too!!! Keep at it Marty!!!
i like how marty incorporate music to set the tone and get that emotion from the player. very few games these days do this. its what makes the halo games feel more heroic and cinematic when they need to be. ive played god of war ragnarok because how epic and cinematic it is and not at one point did it ever make me feel the emotions that halo did with its soundtrack. the difference between a master and someone who doesnt understand the importance of music to set the tone
When I watched it I wasn't like "Oh. Just some dude." I was like, "HOLY FREAKIN' CRAP MASTER CHIEF OH MY FREAKIN' LORD GOOD DAMN YES HALLELUJAH THE SECOND COMING! OF THE MASTER oh wait third coming of the Master Chief, but YES!!!! THIS IS TOTALLY SWEET!"
the halo series is not just great because of its plot/story, but also it's music, it makes it just.. EPIC :D thank you Martin, please continue with making awesome music!
oh GOD how i wish that i could meet Mr O'donnel, i mean im so obessed with his work i freaking almost know all of his songs on the piano. COME TO AUSTRALIA MARTY! PLEASE!!! I BEG YOU!
I don't know much about piano's since I'm a drummer, but I'm pretty sure it's an electronic piano of some sort because I know he plays the chorus that most people think is done by people, on that piano.
@Taedran Marty's got a classical composing repertoire more than anything. He is naturally more worried about excessive volume in his music. You probably won't hear Hans Zimmer or Two Steps from Hell from him, but it's great the way it is and you can't say it's not epic.
If your talking about the intro "chord," well it's not actually a chord it's just one note played at different intervals (E). I'm pretty sure he starts out playing them at 3 octaves apart but correct me if I'm wrong. Then after that he plays that little halo motif (E G F# D E) at one octave apart. Then...I'm not really sure...I play guitar not piano =(
I remember this. Happy 10th Halo 3!
Martin O'Donnell will you ever sell the sheet music?
Martin O'Donnell check out this guy singing the halo theme in a church: ruclips.net/video/nEun9I2VfP0/видео.html

1:00 No, Martin... we don't laught... we lived that moment.
Man it's disappointing that bungie fired Marty, his music played a big role in the franchises success
Absolutely. Halo couldn’t be so mystical and special without it’s absolutely fantastic music.

Anyone else got goosebumps and tears in their eyes when he explained the Halo 2 "Epilogue" line? Marty is a genius.
This is what made halo games so awesome! You could HEAR the resemblence from the older titles in the newer ones :) and you were like "Oh my gawd I've goosebumps cause i know this one" :D
Marty is amazing. He's free-form musical composition skills are just fantastic. The music from Halo 3, is just...just..."wow".

marty O'Donnel, my friend you will live on on forever. remember reach, remember this man as a living legend
Back when Master Chief really was more than just some dude named John.

And to this day. He’s not just some dude in a space suit making his way through the smoke.
I love Marty.
Goosebumps and I love it so much. It was my first cover song put out. We love you

This man really made my boyhood special with the music he’s composed… it’s amazing.👏🏿 god bless you
Gaaa even to this day it really does make the hair on the back of my neck stand up and gives me chills. You have no idea.
Marty has more enthusiasm and passion in Halo than the entire studio of 343. Marty, you're a legend. 🧡

Halo was so many things for so many kids when it hit. I’m glad I was one of them.

“It’s not just some dude, it’s you “…
that there is the man who made the beautiful music of the bungie games

@Taedran If he was to release his epicness into one song, the whole world would explode into pure energy known as awesomeness.
