The first two minutes is legit the most concise and comprehensible summary of the plot I’ve ever heard
Yes, sad they cut it off.
It's okay. Missed over some of the nuances and I don't think that the description of the Emperor was entirely accurate.
Agreed
I call boycott until we get the epic voice cut.
FACTS!!
I recently learned that "Alan Smithee" is a named used when the director doesn't want his name on the credits. Wow...
somewhere there is a dude with that name that's all "why am I hated so much?"
yup was about to write the comment for people who dont know, but no need to write it several time, so like he said
all hail Kino+
Under the spreading bad movie / the Alan Smithee stands...
@@VoodooV1 That is the plot of "An Alan Smithee Film" by Eric Idle.
I would happily have listened to another half hour of Epic Voice Guy breaking down the plot, so if you want to release that video, I'm here for it.
We want the Epic Voice Guy cut!
RELEASE THE EPIC VOICE GUY CUT!
If, by my life or death, this can become real, you´ll have my sword! Hail the Epic voice Guy cut!
Do this
Watch the 'Shity History of Dune' video
Dune: A 500 page dense book turned into a 2 hour film.
The Hobbit: A 250 page children’s book turned into 3 160 minute films
And both of them suck mostly thanks to studio intervention. "Why does it hurt so much?"
The Hobbit movies are fantastic !.
@@paulcanning4702 really? its the first time the book is quicker to read than to watch the movie :P
jodorowsky's dune had a script that was the size of a phone book but it was cool
While hobbit is better
"Dune, worm's my car" has got to be the cleverest pun I've ever heard.
Quickly followed by the "electric eels" bit... Had me cracking up.
Is this came from a movie Dude, Where's My Car? (2000)
@@raihanahamad8288 yeah
Dune Hard With A Wasteland
Yep it was so well done I couldnt even laugh. I was just amazed by that perfection.
Calling the Bene Gesserit "the Spice Girls" might just be my favorite Honest Trailer joke to date.
I am still laughing, wow that was such... likw who comes up with those??
Honestly I've been hearing the dune fandom say that for a decade
Dune: Worm's My Car tops it for me.
Missed opportunity to call the film "Spiceworld: The Movie" though
Alia Atreides could be Baby Spice but then she grows up to be Scary Spice. The possibilities are endless
Writer Guy- “I turned a 500 page book into a 5 hour movie”
Producer Guy- “Not good enough, we need it to be two hours long”
Editor Guy- “No problem, that’s Super Easy, Barely an Inconvenience “
Pleased to meet a Pitch Meeting enthusiast.
Ironic, because now they turn 5 page books into 5 hour trilogies lol
500-page books compressed into 5-hour movies compressed again into 2-hour movies are TIGHT!
@@theonebman7581 Ohhhh, compression is TIGHT!
Producer Guy: Oh really, wont the Director be super pissed and refuse to have anything to do with it once it's released?"
Editor Guy: I dOnT kNoW~!?
Producer Guy: Well Okay then.
Epic voice guy must have loved starting with “In the year…” Dune is like a match made in intergalactic heaven for him.
"Between the time when the seas drank Atlantis, and the rise of the sons of Aryas, there existed an age undreamed of."
And that was just the Spacer's Guild calendar, too (nerd moment)
i can't believe they didn't even mention his murderous terrifying little sister
Alia keeps pace with the storm...
Saint Alia of the knife
Never do spice and perform strange strange initiation rituals while pregnant
Of the things Lynch totally mishandled in the film, I think the worst sin was Alia and her terrible dialog. It was bad enough that he changed the entire meaning of the story by having it rain (thus totally undercutting everything we learn about Arakis before the end, everything that is supposed to come after). But he took the one truly unique and fascinating character and turned her into an example of how one should never write nor deliver dialog.
It would add 2 more hours to the timeline. Unacceptable.
Also, Sean Young played the love intrest in both "Dune" (1984) and "Blade Runner" (1982).
That means Chani is still a replicant, the last thinking machine. Hiding in plain sight where no Butlerians would look.
That first minute and a half was the best explanation I've ever heard. I finally understand it all!
I read the book, so...

I hope Denis hires him
@@teknophelia It made me understand the plot better than Villeneuve's movie.
@@arvidp.247 So Denny V. pulled a Lynch, eh?
@@commandercaptain4664 I've never actually seeen Lynch's movie or read the book but I talked to people who did and they explained some things to me. This made me realize that the new movie explains some things pretty bad. For example, it is said that the empreror gave control of Arrakis from Harkonnen to Atreides but not why. It's only half of the story though, so maybe that is supposed to be revealed later. But it felt more like he glossed over it to have more time for the actual plot.
@@IncredibleGoliath If Denis's version is merely cogent and presentable, and by all accounts it is and more, then he towers over Lynch and his train wreck. "Vivid visual work" lol, it's still a train wreck. It appears you are the one being conned into believing a film is a serious art film that isn't. Denis also made BR 2049 which was brilliant.
That’s a pretty impressively succinct description of Dune’s plot
I hadnt realized or forgot how the ASMR lines managed to bring to the screen something that would otherwise be impossible, the majority of the content of the book which happens inside the characters minds. even then it's not enough ofc, bc it must be summarized to the max

Good job dude.
“Alan Smithee (also Allen Smithee) is an official pseudonym used by film directors who wish to disown a project. Coined in 1968 and used until it was formally discontinued in 2000,[1] it was the sole pseudonym used by members of the Directors Guild of America (DGA) when a director, dissatisfied with the final product, proved to the satisfaction of a guild panel that they had not been able to exercise creative control over a film. Well, in all fairness the video’s 5 minutes long and the guys at Screen Junkies have a schedule to keep. They gotta wrap this up.
No lie, that summary at the start was SUPER helpful.
I'm glad this Honest Trailer addressed that the characters whisper their thoughts so much. Aside from how we hear the characters' thoughts too much, why on Earth did they have the characters WHISPER THEIR THOUGHTS? It's not like anyone can hear them.
Because without hearing their thoughts/exposition you get Dune 2021.
@@ianashmore9910 I haven't seen Dune 2021, so I don't understand the context. But really, it's the whispering of the thoughts that annoys me more.
@@connorbrennan4233
You'll miss them when you don't know what's going on in the new film.
@@ianashmore9910 Dune 2021 has been streamlined so that it is very easy to follow.
Because a huge amount of the book is just the various character's internal monologues. It's their thoughts about the subtleties and subtext of what other people are saying. Given that so little of what's important in the book is actually said out loud, this was David Lynch's solution. I think we can all agree it was an imperfect solution, but in this one regard he really did try to stick to the source material.

I was hoping for him to say "REMEMBER THE TOOTH!"
Bill Sienkiewicz (art) and Ralph Macchio made a sumptuous Comics adaptation of the film (and it included scenes from the script, not in the theatrical cut) for Marvel.
Now you got me psyched for Denis Villeneuve's The Hidden!
Another beloved 80s classic. And again it's from '84. That was a good year apparently. '86 had Highlander though, definitely make an Honest Trailer for that.
That last clip really caught me off guard
seems that's what Showgirls usually does ^^
I know Worth it at End
I almost spit my lunch out
💯🤣
And that is the same guy who played Detective Dale Cooper from Twin Peaks TV Show
‘This well conditioned teen suffering from ‘old face’.....I’m WEAK AF💯😂
"Murder in a speeeeedoooo, uooooohhhh....." JUST BRILLIANT!
"Dune, worm's my car" That just works on so many levels. Genius.
"Fremenies" is so goddamn good lmfao you guys at SJ kill me
Please say in your epic voice: "FATHER! THE SLEEPER HAS AWAKENED!"
Right after DUNE hit the theaters, a major hurricane hit the studio where it had been filmed and did lots of damage. Fans said Mother Nature was obvious a DUNE fan and was not happy about the film.
Mildly disappointed that the legendary space pug (Maud’dog) didn’t get a mention.
"Is still an expert in Minecraft fighting" got me cackling
Calling the worm 'free Willy' really killed me! 😂
that s how this trailer earn my like
Googled Alan Smithee and was NOT disappointed by this joker
I'm surprised there were no jokes about Picard staring in this movie...
There was one : "Gurney Holodeck". A little oblique though.
If David Lynch had chosen to direct Return of the Jedi, how freaky would the Ewoks have ended up looking?
I'm worried they'd be worse than porgs.
@@crystalward1444 But porgs are super cute!
The narration and big boy voice is very much the book. The square shields and voice weapon is some of the most original ideas in scifi movie
BEER is the little mind killer! No wait... now I want a Beer... dammmit!
"Turned his 5-hour cut into a train wreck..." There is a persistent myth that Dune was taken away from Lynch and cut down, which is not true at all. The original theatrical version is his director's cut, and Lynch has fought tooth-and-nail to have his name removed from all other versions. No 5 or 6 hour cut has ever existed, despite constant rumors. He may not have had final cut and later expressed his frustrations in feeling artistically limited, but he worked with the producers to get the film's length down to an acceptable runtime, and the film was never taken away from him before release. Also, just speaking personally, I don't think the film is a "train wreck" in the slightest. I, and many others, think it's completely awesome.
Yes, that! From whatever angle Lynch didn't like it - don't care. I like 1984 version on its own! The books are magnificent, their message/theme awsome, but I'm just fine with enjoying those both works of art.
This movie has many issues but I CARE NOT. I unabashedly love it and it's weirdness. Ehhh, maybe not the voice blasters thing, but everything else.
Maybe Lynch knew from the very start that at the time there was no way to make justice to the Dune story (keep in mind this is his first High Budget Hollywood Project), so he made his best to at least make an entertaining movie for audiences (with several Lynch’s elements)
It is his version...AND it sucks. Both.
I quite like the film - but there's no denying, it's a STRANGE beast indeed.
A bit livelier than the SF miniseries part one, too. Good cast also.
Please say in your epic voice: “Well, it's one for the money, two for the show, three to get ready now go, cat, go”
I love how they still have pugs in the future in this movie.
What about the technicolor Afghans?
So glad I stuck it out to the end... imagining the taughting in the voice !
I don't care what others say, I loved this movie in the 80s and I love it now in 2021.
Kudos for mentioning The Hidden. Most people don't know this masterpiece.
Oh my god this is the most perfect honest trailer ever
