The speech was misinterpreted, but it was justifiably and reasonably misinterpreted. You don’t usually share compromising details of an accomplishment, before commending the accomplishment. “There may or may not have been shady ongoings that led to the result of Mike Essa winning, you’ll have to ask him. Anyways he’s a deserving champion.” This is the structure of the message conveyed. Notice how the acknowledgement of accomplishment pales in comparison to the pre-context…
The word shady was never used. And that right there is the exact issue. You inserted a motivated word to the negative, not that the message was directed in a private setting to Michael and Chris, people who Ryan went through this experience with and maintained great relationships with from 2013 to when ME retired in 2021. This was him talking to them about that experience and what both drivers went through. Of course, the general public won't get it. It wasn't for them. It was for those that were in the trenches at that time. Problem is Ryan misread the his experience with however Michael felt today and instead of talking to Ryan with the same level of privacy, he distorted what was said and went public, an arena where all it takes is an accusation, not a nuanced history of driver relationships and situations that were out of the public eye.
