The way you have your rock wall set is the way this area had traditionally built and had "rockeries". In the space behind the rock, are planted shrubbery, bulb type plants, and perennials; every somoftem a small tree or some annuals other than just along the leading edge. A rockery could pretty much be 2 dimensional along a hill like your retaining wall, 2 or 3 sided as a yard interest or a created berm, or 4 sided more like a raised garden. Thise that are built as sturdy raised gardens with rocks set well enough ypu can c.imb up and do work and/ or run one of those small rototillers have been used for vegetable gardening from time to time and if not too wide (far from the rock) are fantastic except for slugs. I think it came with some of the immigrants who came into the region long befire my time but I don't know which group for sure.
That last shot says it all....Brutus looks back and forth over the space, thinking, yep, they did a good job under my supervision. Y'all have a Blessed weekend.
Al, watching you all put down the shone layers for the surface for the wood storage. My question is : you compacted the stone with a tamper. What ever happened to the plate compacter? The one that you used for the foundations of the buildings?
You should use the ash in your garden. I know you can put it in the compost but it can be directly put in the individual plants for some soil treatments. Or maybe as you close the planter boxes for the winter.
I'm so happy that you have found a food that Pluto really enjoys! At her stage in life, that is so important! I miss seeing her...but I know how that is. I'm getting older too.😉
Ya'll did an awesome job putting the firewood enclosure base in, including sweeping the timbers off Gina...😂😅 Little House on The Prairie😅 Love ya'll ❤️
Great job Al! 👍 I was surprised that you didn’t insert steel rods through the foundation perimeter to secure everything to the ground? Also, are you ready for a dump truck yet to minimize your trips with the tractor? Just a thought for efficient labor on your developing ranch!! Love your channel! Always inspiring! Thank you!
I sure hope that wood is pressure treated and rated for ground contact the way it has been buried. Also, pressure treated wood is not treated all the way through so all cut surfaces need a treatment to retain ground contact rating.
Gina cracked me up using the tamper to spread out the large gravel. great job y'all! It's gonna be so much more convenient to feed the boiler once the wood is in the new shed.
Gina, I have a novel idea, if you learn how to run the loader than Al will have to do all the raking of the rock while you occupy the cushy cab of the tractor .😁
Good morning Al and Gina. ☀️ I enjoy following along as you build things. Can't wait so see your final design for this project. You plan well and the end results are always awesome. Happy Saturday! 🤗🌿
Ms Gina - "this sucks" and also "this is more work than it looks" was what i was thinking some many years ago when we put in what became a leveled 35 yard plus parking area of 5/8" minus. PS: That rock rake Al is using works pretty well in multiple applications in the garden too.
To help preserve the wood you would be better off preserving the wood with a linseed and beeswax mix of 3parts linseed 1part beeswax (warm the linseed to about 120f to help incorporate the melted wax. Paint it liberally to all the exposed wood as well as the joints. Also it will store in an airtight container for a couple of months (if it’s looks funky just warm it back up whilst stirring it). My dad used to swear by it and so did my uncle who lived in Canada.
Good morning Lumnah family from a wet Pacific Northwest. Good morning viewers. I like the rock wall you built Al. It looks really nice. The corner is crisp and clean. Your back dragging worked well. The foundation box and gravel inside is a great idea to keep the wood dry. That ramp up to it is great too. Gina did a nice job tamping it all down. I'm glad you were able to clean out the ash from the outdoor wood stove Heatmaster. Thanks for this video Lumnah family. The wood shed is off to a good start!
Y'all i have been watching you video's since the beginning way back when.....Thanks for all these years Al and wife Gina & daughter = GOD BLESS all of you...... Old F-4 Phantom fighter jet pilot Shoe🇺🇸
HI GUYS! Garden harvesting begins! Tomatoes, potatoes, beets, onions, carrots all have to be harvested . We got a GREAT crop this year! Hope everyone has a great weekend!!!
Next time you use the large /clean stone for subgrade pick-up a long tine garden claw meant for weeding, long handled,5"wide,4" tines, the only tool I found that works quite well moving more than 1or 2 stones at a time !
Inspector Brutus surveying your work at the end and giving his nod of approval. Nice work. Smokey on Friday here in MN too. Noticed it while walking that the air smelled like a campfire.
You guys do great work. I'm a little OCD also, so I appreciate Gina sweeping off the beams! Can't wait to see it built. I love that Brutus. He is so chill when he's out with you.
Good day Al, Gina, Olivia, Brutus and all Lumnah family & friends. The MUDPUDDLE is looking much better now, kinda brings back memories when you built the J.C.S. woodshed at the old place. Wondering if you have thought of breeding the three highland heifers to increase the herd of meat cattle, just a thought as you have both Cookie & Myles already in the works to someday go to "Camp-Freezer" ? Have a good weekend, see you on Tuesday, good lord willing and the creek don't rise !
MY FAVORITE NH OFF GRID RUclips FAMILY! Goood Morning Lumnahs Al Gina Olivia and subscriber friends! I pray 🙏🏼 everyone has a blessed weekend and week ahead! 😁👍🏼
Good morning Al and Gina! Late to the party this morning but still enjoyed the show 😂 The heatmaster is like a huge fireplace and definitely profits from a good clean out. The woodbox is going to be so helpful when the snow and ice come this winter. I am always happy when i see your progress. Gina will have a great time landscaping with some pretty flowers . Praying the weather settles down for you. Hugs from N.C..❤

Good morning, Al and Gina! I loved LITTLE LUMNAH ACRES, but I love OGP LUMNAH ACRES even more. There’s more space for larger animals and bigger projects. Buying the new property was a wise decision.
I was wondering about the compactor as well. Also wondering why he didn't put some sort of drainage under the gravel so it doesn't fill up with water when it rains. If he slopes the roof towards the retaining wall, the runoff will all go right back into the gravel. And if he slopes the roof towards the front then he'll have to walk through the runoff when it's raining.

@@terryhenderson424 this is very interesting. I researched “rockeries” and their history is fascinating. Thank you for sharing.

Great to see Pluto again.
You said this took you twice as long as you'd hoped, so I had to watch it twice. It was good both times.
Sweet Pluto!!😍
Jena, you need to learn how to run the equipment like Al, make him do all the work and you set behind the wheel. LOL
We give our dog farmers dog as well. He absolutely loves that food.
The end result was amazing. Loved the tractor work. My husband says he needs to get more equipment for the homestead lol
Awe! It’s so great to see Pluto again! Brutus is getting so big! Y’all did a great job! ❤
I loved hearing Gina describe how much she loves raking rocks. Ha.
Good strat on the woodshed , Al . Good work Gina . You are a good helpmate ; Seeya
We had snow this weekend in our area along with frost Sat night
Like seeing just how you both work together so well !...
More of Gina showing off her muscles helping with the timbers. Great job.
Gina cracked me up using the tamper to spread out the large gravel. great job y'all! It's gonna be so much more convenient to feed the boiler once the wood is in the new shed.
Love the rock wall. Gina you need one all along the back of the house for low growing plants.
That turned out s nice. can't wait to see the building over it and then you can fill it up. :)
Looking good.
Gina, I have a novel idea, if you learn how to run the loader than Al will have to do all the raking of the rock while you occupy the cushy cab of the tractor .😁
Gina was right …. The rock wall looks great ! You have all the materials right there 😊👍👍👍
I would find a container to put under the ash door to make the whole emptying the ash process easier.
You guys work so well together. Love watching all your project builds.

Put a metal box down for the ashes to fall into instead of shoveling uneven pavers
Awesome job!

Good work you two! Brutus and I approve! Fingers crossed for dry weather!
I just hope your winter is not as bad as your summer has been
Good morning y'all from the south of Texas. Smile , show the world you are having an amazing day.
Nice to see your comment here Eric! Keep smiling!
If I were younger I might consider going into the gravel business. 😊
Your skills are amazing you and Jeanna should be so proud of all you’ve done.
I hope you don't mind. Her name is spelled Gina. I just thought you'd like to know. Have a great weekend!
Love that Brotus is there with you for every step of the way. He is such a lovely dog. It is going to be a good space. 🙏❤️

The new fire 🔥 wood area is looking amazing. What a clever use of all those big stones you dug up.
I see Brutus is getting closer to the house. It's a matter of time before he's inside with the other two. just kidding.

Great looking wall Al! Now Gina needs to plant some kind of grown cover. Creeping Thyme or Phlox would look pretty.
Aaww Gina you look so cute in your hat and hoodie. I’m a fellow girl that loves wearing hats but haven’t in so long.
