Do not put it on the ball, you'll take a chance at killing someone.

Yeah, that's probably good advice. I use the ball but that has shown to be problematic at times. Shackles are a better choice.

Absolutely never recover from the tow ball. If you have no other recovery points take the tow hitch out and recover using the pin that holds the tow hitch in place.

That is a good idea, thanks. I did end up buying a receiver hitch mounted shackle to use instead.

NEVER use a trailer hitch ball with a recovery strap, rope, chain, cable or any such device. Yank on it hard enough and the hitch ball can break off and hit the vehicle being pulled out. There have been fatalities when the hitch ball went through the windshield and hit vehicle occupant.

Yeah, I have heard of that. The best tools are the ones you have when you need them, but I agree that there are better options.

Would suggest taking this video down as there will now be people that think it alright to recover using the tow ball… absolute no-no

You mean I am the first one to think of this? I thought people knew about this for a while. I am sure there are others out there that have done this before.
Joking aside, you are probably right. There are much safer ways to help pull someone out, but there are safer ways to doing everything. I have pulled people out of ditches with my tractor by connecting to their tow ball. I have also pulled people down the street using a chain. A tow truck would have been better but that was not available.

@@SeidelRanchReviews The difference is when using a snatch strap or kinetic rope where the built up energy is much higher… anyway, just my thoughts for what they are worth

@@graemegrieve1953 No, I understand and agree with you. These new kinetic ropes increase the force on the tow point and could overload it. A tow ball shooting at you from that would be pretty dangerous.
