There has ALWAYS been misinformation and disinformation in politics. It’s a lot easier to say a lie about an opponent and let them waste time exonerating themselves, than it is to promote the positive things you have done. The only difference in 2024 from 2016 is it is easier to research and debunk lies if you want to take the time to do the research.

AI also has audio elements, it's not solely visual. It has text-based elements as well. So discerning the legitimacy of information requires keen media literacy capabilities for these new and unprecedented technological advancement.
What is being done to make these practices illegal. This smacks of fraud. Shouldn't we pass laws to prosecute the perpetrator of false information. We need to congress to look into this now.

Misinformation did not come about b/c of social media!! What's wrong with ppl. It's always been a thing!!! Social media has enabled the rapid dissemination of information in ways that did not exist prior to social media, e-mail. text messages etc. To say that people did not know what misinformation was before social media is crazy.
