I Went to 2 REAL Art shops in Portland, ME! See what I Bought!

- Hi friends! I don't often post haul videos but I had the chance to visit 2 art stores in Portland Maine while visiting my daughter, and I thought it would be fun to see the few things I purchased! We don't have any art stores in my area, the closest thing is a couple of big-box stores that carry the basics (and are very pricy in my opinion) so visiting real art shops with open stock offerings is a treat! What's more, they had singles of some pastels I wanted to try but didn't want to invest in a full set until I knew if I liked them. I will link to the things I bought on Blick because they also have open stock for some of the items and on Amazon because, sometimes the sets are cheaper there. Always compare because the prices fluctuate. I will be using these products in upcoming videos so let me know if there is something you would like to see first!
Haul Items:
Ruling Pen: shrsl.com/4hmq2 *I have never tried these and looking forward to it!
Double Cup cup: shrsl.com/4hmq7 *this one is cheaper, has a cover and plastic, this one would actually have been better for what I wanted if using with watermedia outside. On Amazon: amzn.to/3vRjJea
Caran D'Ache Neopastel: shrsl.com/4hmqd sets are lesson Amazon: amzn.to/3xAX9XS
Van Gogh oil pastels: shrsl.com/4hmqk (sets are much cheaper!) same price on sets on Amazon: amzn.to/3JoljHv
Cray-Pas Specialist pastels (sets only) shrsl.com/4hmqt and amzn.to/4axVnW6
Magnesium pencil sharpener (this was Jasons) shrsl.com/4hmqu
Stillman & Birn Nova Beige Mixed Media Sketchbook: shrsl.com/4hm1p (softcover, I couldn't find the hardcover one I bought at Blick) Amazon has the 6"x8" spiral bound one I bought for a lower price: amzn.to/3TV4JUB
In addition, I ordered a couple of things on Amazon:
QoR Watercolor Urban sketch set amzn.to/3Q2Bs9r
QoR Watercolor Intensity amzn.to/4aPteJO
QoR Watercolor Granulators amzn.to/43VeK94
Silicone brushes set of 5: amzn.to/3JfUOnV

There is NOTHING better than browsing through a real art store!!! There is one in the city about 2 1/2 hrs away from me that is a mom and pop store that has been added on to over the years and the whole place is a maze that is filled floor to ceiling!!! My happy place!!
Please please don't worry about what is or isn't "in your lane" for channel. Do what makes you HAPPY! acrylics and Jelly printing are always delightful.
Aww, thanks so much!
Be interesting to hear your take on the QOR EXTRUDED pallets over pouring and drying from tubes. I'll reserve my opinion until then. I can wander an art store for hours.😂 Thanks Lindsay 🎉
I'm curious too!
@@thefrugalcrafter Did you watch Becca's new video on the Business sellers show she went to? QoR is getting 20 NEW colors of watercolors!
Hhhmmmm me to I’ve heard there’s a discrepancy between their premade pans and their paint tubes when you dry them yourself. However, I live in Australia and these are exceptionally expensive and I only have the 24 small tubes that because it was on sale and I am very happy with them. I would love to try some of the other sets, but simply can’t justify the price
@@mjpete27 I did! It was so informative!
@mjpete27 yes! E talk all about it on the podcast tomorrow!
Oh, Lindsay! You entered a danger zone....twice😂
I'm glad you had fun. It will be interesting to see how these blend with your others.
I'm curious too!
Watercolour palettes....pastels....paper .... silicon brushes .... art p*rn .... Awesome haul .
Yes! Thank you!
I went to Artist&Craftsman on Thursday - my jaw hit the FLOOR when I walked in 😂 good thing I parked in the 15 minute spot out front so I didn’t sell my soul for everything in it hahahahah
😆
Fun, fun! Yes, more Gelli printing pls! Especially for in a sketchbook/art journal? I’ve kind of lost my gel printing mojo and I’d love to get it back :)
Great idea!
Art stores are my arch-nemesis!
When I go into one it's like I'm entering Narnia and no soul will see me for at least a couple of hours 🤣
I compare, I search, get my arms full then start putting everything back and pondering what to get, and then I find another interesting thing and get all lost all over again.. ADHD at its prime right there 🤣
That being said, there are some relaxing feelings when you are inside an art store that does not compare with browsing for deals online. Maybe it's the touching of real items and seeing the true colors that warm our hearts.
I love your hauls, big or small! It's so interesting to see what a real artist picks at an art store 😁
Aww, thank you!
These days, it's pretty amazing to have more than one actual dedicated art stores, anywhere outside of major cities.
In San Diego, we have 2, & one is Blick. There are quite a few chain craft stores though.
I loved looking at everything in our independent art store.
I've never been in blick, I might have to visit the Boston location one day! I wonder how far it is from south station?
Qor first please! I have several of their introductory tube sets, like high chroma and love the movement and flow! Very, very interested in how the pans compare.
The QOR mini palettes look like fun. What a lovely haul!!
They are!
When I was a teenager, I would insist my parents take me to Art & Craftsman Supply when we visited my grandparents in Portland! I was into pencil drawing at the time, but I do still have some watercolor pencils and erasers from there. Seeing the logo, I could SMELL the interior in my memory.
Awww;)
What fun to shop in art stores! Whenever we travel to a city, I google art stores and promise my family that we'll only stay 20 minutes:) They usually don't grumble too much that way. BTW, I've used watercolor on the Nova tan (it's the same gsm as their Alpha paper). What I find works best is only painting on one side (one side is slightly toothier than the other). Enjoyed seeing what you bought.
That's a great idea!
I have the ruling pen you showed and also use some silicon clay tools for masking fluid. They work well depending on what you want to do. Thanks for sharing. Yeah, keeping the little businesses in business means you can touch things. At some point, the touching will go away, never to be seen again, so we all should support it while we can. Honestly, I love haul videos -- they're almost like buying the items myself, and I think it's why they're so popular. And yes, I do know some You Tubers who literally museum their art supplies. I guess the supplies are art themselves -- I would agree, ha-ha.
Love your comment!😊
So true!
I would love to see your take on abstract art. Honestly, I love abstract, but I don't understand it at all!
And I would just like to say how inspired I am by your sketchbook floozy thing you got going. I'm finally using my 'special' paper. Drawing and painting more than ever, and it's been a blast. Ty. ❤
Yay!!! I am so happy you are using your supplies!
My weakness is art and craft stores It’s so nice to go in and touch stuff. I like to shop online. But it’s so much better to touch and really see things.
So true!
I got that same Stillman and Birn sketchbook and my reaction was exactly the same as yours. It's a bit thin but good for thick gouache painting, not thin washes. I'll be using it for color pencil, maybe oil pastel, ink so it won't go to waste. I'm planning on going to an art store in July when I'm on vacation with family. I've been to the store once and just love the privately owned small art stores. I'll be spending a bundle I'm sure.
Nice!
Nice little haul. Aww the Qor mini look wonderful, yep want monster has kicked in, love my Qor paint. Granulations one would be great, loads of purple blue hills at the moment here, yep winter is coming.
Thanks 😊
Qor H2O colors for sure - all of the 3 new sets of course! Thanks for enabling me Lindsay 😁- I got the same 3 sets from the same seller - they're on the way! I justified my "no buy" BUY thinking they'd be perfect to take on vakay in Curacaco in May! And those tins - just so stinking cute & UNIQUE with the silicone tray & Qor iconic circle palette wells! Excellent deal & truly, TFS! (I'm thinking of cutting 1 of the center row mixing squares to hopefully accommodate 4 more 1/2 pans thereby getting 16 of the 18 pans in one tin.)
The silicone is very thick but you could pull the whole thing out and put magnets on the pans. You could probably get 24 colors that way.
I have the spiral bound nova trio (gray, tan and black paper) and it’s great for gouache. I don’t think you’ll regret that purchase. I’m using it for your watercolor crayons class as well and it’s been perfect for a lot of those lessons as well.
Thanks! I wondered if that was the same paper.
Great haul. I look forward to your trying the tool for masking fluid. It is so messy I tend not to use it😂. The Qor paints would be the next item I would love to see.
Will do!
I'm anxious to see the Caran D'Asche pastels. They look like they go on so smooth and rich. It's all a nice haul and to have actual art stores to browse is great. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure:)
I’m interested to see how you like the CD oil pastels. They are a lot like the mungyo oil pastels in firmness and colors. CD are a bit more pigmented/brighter. They’re beautiful to work with. All my greens are good. I break them if I want details. I used a ruling pen with watercolor in a class. Maybe you can teach me how to use🤷♀️. I used my Qor granulation set this winter. So cute. Love the cobalt green. That price was crazy good! I bought oil sticks in December. I know🤷♀️. Love them so much. I say that about everything 😂. Thanks for the fun little haul! 💕
Awesome, enjoy them!
Artist and Craftsman is the GOAT!!! Better than the two Blicks I’ve been to
Good to know!
Love to know what you think of the toned sketch book for mixed media. All look like good buys so enjoy your new supplies!
I've done one painting in the tan book with gouache, and it was fine. I am going to use it a bit more with other mecia and see what I think.
I have a ruling pen and I use it mostly for masking fluid, ink, and gouache. It took me a bit to get the hang of it! I recommend keeping a damp paper towel or something on hand to clean it periodically while using it.
Thanks for the tip!
I LOVE the haul videos...but then, I watch ALL your videos!😉😉 PS... Please do a video on the Caran D'Ache pastels...THEN a watercolor using all granulating colors...I know, you have done that before....but, I'm greedy!!!
Will do!!
I’d like to see the watercolors first. Laughing cause you bought another sketchbook! That darn want monster…
I am out of control!
Oh so much fun!
You are such a gem 💎. We all love you regardless of what any others think. Nope, I still haven't gotten any artist grade watercolors yet, just as well, the pestilence I'm having to deal with would interfere with my joy regardless, professional or not professional. God bless you young lady and your family. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
P. S. Just getting to listen to you, whatever it's about, makes me forget the other stuff for a while. ❤
I hope life gets happier soon 💓
It's always so so lovely to browse art supply shops! The one nearest me is a mom and pop shop and it's better than Disney World! They've also special ordered things for me before. I try to primarily use supplies I can replenish there because I'm so happy to give them my money 😂
Love that!
Yes, there is a Qor Reflection pallette! They are on Amazon! Love ❤from Texas ( this is a 4th pallette from Qor)
I saw that but passed because I don't use metallic that often and have plenty already;)
Oh no! The want monster is almost awakened. I saw the new 150 Cromaflow pencils on the Art gear guide, too and they were tempting. I actually almost exclusively shop at local art stores. They don't really have the higher end products so I only go when I need a certain thing. But these days, with a new baby on the way and little room in our apartment, I find it much easier to just use what I have and enjoy shopping in my own stash.
Congratulations 🎊 👏 💐
Hi, Lindsay. Thank you for your video.❤ Have a good week.
Thank you! You too!
Looking forward to seeing the Qor pans compared to the Qor tubes!
Me too!
No regrets! I have the granulating and the urban sketch Qor mini palettes. I have to say the palette woke up the want monster. They are so cute! I put the granulating colors with the urban sketch palette and I use the other palette for my gouache. The intensity palette may join the other two, but for now I'm good. 😄
I totally agree!
Hi Lindsay! I'd love to see you use the silicone brushes. ❤
Will do!!
Fun items, thanks for sharing! ❤
Thanks for watching!
The silicon scraper things with oil pastels , QOR, then Caran Dache pastels. Please.
Coming soon!
Awesome video!!!!! Love all your videos!!! ❤ thanks for sharing!
You are so welcome!
Local art stores are so fun. Thank you for sharing.
Yes they are!
this is stunning, I love it ☺☺
Thank you! 😊
It looks like a day trip to Portland Maine is in store for me!
Have fun! Parking is free on Sunday!
@@thefrugalcrafter Thanks for the tip!
So funny... I normally don't like that haul videos but yours are different 😂 anyway can't wait to hear that you mind is changed re: the Stillman and Burns nova series❤
One painting done in that book, so far so good!
I’m from Australia and if I ever go to America I’m going with empty luggage and bringing back as much art supplies as I can possibly cram in even paying the extra weight I’d still come out on top. The QoR watercolours that you got just one of those on sale in Australia is between $75- $80. And the sketchbook from Stillman and burn is about $35-$45. I love that you got yourself some stuff and can’t wait to see use the QoR watercolours
Yikes!
You're a good soul, Lindsay. We haven't got a local art store, but even if we did, I'd probably would stick to the big box stores online and go with cheaper prices. My eyes are always bigger than my energy level so I have projects-to-be stacked sky high in the craft room, yet I can't resist videos like this one that get the old Want Monster growling! :) I just pre-ordered two of Tim Holtz new stamp sets. Poof! There goes $50. I just have to be careful of that Poof!, that it doesn't get heard too often each month. :)
It'd easy to do!
Hi Lindsay...Good for you for buying yourself some hand chosen treats....it's always fun to watch.❤❤
Thank you! 🤗
Very interested in the QoR panned watercolors!
I have been using them a lot the past few days. I am pleased with them!
Looking forward to seeing some of these things!!! I love seeing products!! Just got one of the brushes like that. Haven't used it yet!!!
Awesome! Thank you!
That's one thing we lack around my neck of the woods! I wish we had some little art stores around here, they are so much fun to shop in! Thanks for showing us your haul, I think you found some nice things to play with. 😁
Thank you!
I am excited for your review of the Altenew gouache.
Coming soon!
I love both of those stores. I particularly miss The Art Mart. I used to work a couple blocks away and would pop in every few weeks to browse. Nice haul!
That is awesome!
Oh, all the pretty colors 😍 I'm looking forward to seeing you use all the goodies!
Thank you! 😊 check my Instagram, I've used the qor urban sketch set and beige sketchbook already:)
@thefrugalcrafter Wow, I love the church painting! I have the tubes, but those Qor pans are so tempting!
@@daphnen.7182 I'll be doing a direct comparison between the tubes and pans if you want to wait.
Looking forward to seeing Gelli plate videos! I just used mine the other day and remembered why I so enjoyed it:) I don’t know why I hadn’t used them in what seems like forever
I feel the same when I use mine!
"Ohhh, Im just going to go eat worms!" 😄😄😄 You crack me up, Lindsay! I loved your "maxi" haul video 💕
😆
I love Qor watercolors and after I saw your comments on these sets I ordered all three from Amazon! So excited to get them! My watercolor group does plein air in the summer….so they will get a lot of use. Thanks for the tip!
Have fun!
Good for you, Lindsay!
Yes, it`s difficult to be an artist (or a crafter) in a world of plenty.❤
True!
Would love to see a tutorial on the ruling pen. It's supposed to be simple to use, but I can't get the hang of it. If i keep it 'tight' to get thin line it doesn't hold very much. If I open it up to hold more, it blobs. I did look at other tutorials that weren't particularly helpful. Thank you. Visiting art stores is such a joy! I try to bring cash and leave my credit card home. No willpower I'm afraid.
You got it!
The silicon tools are great for stencilling with pastes too. I need some bigger ones 😍😍😍
I totally agree!
I love my stillman and burn nova series. I have several and use them for ink and also neocolors oddly enough.
Cool, I've done one painting in I and it preformed well:)
The ArtMart is a cool little place. Last time I went, I was surprised to see they had the Holbein square oil pastels. I got quite a few at a very reasonable price.
I didn't see them or I would have grabbed a couple!
@@thefrugalcrafter I hope they didn't stop carrying them. :(
I got the Qor mini granulators and I love them! The tin is super cute too
Yes!
Oh, that want monster! Good stuff. Interested to see the difference between the Qor tube paint and the pan.
You and me both!
Thanks Lindsay. I love to support independent art stores!
You are so welcome!
I know what you mean about supporting brick & mortar small businesses. I bought a stack of Rubber Stamp Madness magazines from Half Price Books a couple months ago and got inspired to visit the local IL craft stores listed in their directory. In addition, I found one new scrapbook store just by searching online. I went on a "pilgrimage" and met the store owners and some of their customers and had a great time, it was like a mini vacation treat to go somewhere new! I spent some money in each store and felt good supporting them that way. Before 2008 there were so many local craft stores, but as the economy tanked and the craft industry contracted and matured, one by one they started to go out of business. I miss those days when you had your pick of nearby craft stores to visit and ogle new products at. Today it's a long drive to reach each one, and you hang your hopes on a wing a prayer that they stay in business for a long time. Paying cheaper online is one thing, but spending money at a small b&m business is gratifying.
Indy stores are a gem!
@@thefrugalcrafter I also ended up subscribing to RSM for 3 years. They are also a shoestring company. 😊
I’d love to see you use those Neopastels!
The other day I finished one sketchbook, yay! I was too lazy to draw something so I stamped an image on the last page with waterproof ink, and painted the image with watercolor 😊. BTW fun haul.
That's a great idea!
@@thefrugalcrafter thanks! 👍
I can only imagine how you felt going into those stores! I feel the same when going into an independent stamp/cardstock store. You peeked my interest when you mention Cray Pas because I used these when I was in elementary school-- 60 years ago! I'd love to see a video with you using these. Also, a video on gelli prints would be great. On another note, you often mention ordering from Blick, well, there is a Blick store within a mile of my house. The only time I've been there is 10 years ago to buy my nephew a gift certificate. I think it's about time for me to go browsing in there for me now.
Lucky!
I love my Kum magnesium sharpener!
Would love to see the urban sketch work paints. I love qor paints!! Next is the car a pastels!!!
I've posted 3 paintings and a mixing chart with the qor urban sketch set on my Instagram this weekend! So good!
Would love to see the oil pastels you're excited about!
Coming soon!
Ah! Thank you for the link to the Amazon seller for the Qor mini pallets. Too irresistible to not order. Ordered the iridescent set that I've been wanting, and another of my favorite granulating set. I'm a sucker for cute, tiny things😅
Glad to help!
Would love a video of you using the pastels.
Will do!
I love my Neopastels with Sennelier on top as needed. Oil pastels will work great on your Nova sketchbook, I think. Although I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with gouache.
Thanks for the tip!
Nice haul, Lindsay! I wish we had an art store here; we have Michaels, and that's it. I am excited that you bought the Cray Pas Specialist, as i just ordered a set off Amazon last week (they were 40% off). I've only swatched them so far, but they feel really hard and crumbly. I like that they have the lightfast ratings on them though. I also ordered a cheaper set of Artecho for under $20.00 Canadian and they are much softer and creamier, and more opaque. Then I went down the rabbit hole of watching oil pastel reviews and ordered the Mungyo set. I am out of control. After all of this, I hope I actually like using them, lolol.
I think the specialist being hard is an advantage because they will keep the corners for details.
It was a sad day for my local Jerrys Art A Rama when i moved. But my bank acct felt much better. Lol😊
Goodness...that title did a doubletree on this one. I lived in Portland Oregon and my vrain immediateky thought "You flew to Oregon!?" Lol...I need more coffee. I will say this though. If you or anyone else visurs here ypu need to check out "I've Been Framed" a totally fun art store there.
Noted ✅️
Use the ruling pen with ink - it's an old drafting tool to draw lines of precise, even thicknesses. Fun!
I hear it can also be good with masking fluid too?
Can't wait to try both!
So exciting!! I’d love to see a review on the Qor palettes - I keep eyeing them up at michaels :) i ended up caving and getting the viviva color sheets the last time i had a 50% off coupon and these were a close second!!
Coming soon!
What good finds! Those QOR palettes were indeed a steal. I have a ruling pen for masking fluid, and it is really good. I haven't tried it with ink yet. Now I am curious! Great tip about the Magnesium KUM pencil sharpener...never knew it could be a survival tool. You also got me thinking about the toned paper. I have some Canson Graduate and Claire Fontaine PaintON toned mixed media paper in A3 format. I could make sketchbooks out of those! Thanks for the inspiration! I would love to see a review of the Caran d'Ache and the Cray Pass - I really like the colours you selected.
Sure thing!
SO thankful for you sharing your haul with us. I used to live in Portland and Artist & Craftsman was my favorite place. Now there's more than one!!! But now I'm in Old Town, and Bangor art supply stores are just a memory. Sigh. Nothing like looking and touching and feeling before buying. Anyway, YT hauls and reviews are my lifeline for deciding on new supplies, so I'm not every going to say don't do a haul or test video.
I think Fiddleheads in belfast is the closest one to us now. Do you remember Art Etc. In Orono?
@@thefrugalcrafter Yes, I do! (now). Actually I was remembering the shop in Bangor. I don't recall the name but it was at Penobscot Plaza for a while until it closed for good. Was somewhere else in Bgr before that. Good times.
@@pemaher Penobscot Paint! Ahh, that was my favorite too!
Denver has a lovely art store Meiningers, and I love going there and wandering, and petting all the pretties. I usually end up with a few open stock items. Also, the Neopastels are my favorite!
I totally agree! I went there when I visited a few years ago! I wish I had more time to browse! There was another one too... Guiry's I think? I got some mini gel plates there!
@@thefrugalcrafter yes! Guiry’s and up in Fort Collins, a Jerry’s Artarama. Not a big store but still fun to wander in.
I watched this while adding holbein gouache open stock to my Jerry 's wishlist. I want to round out my palette. I really enjoyed using it plein air yesterday. However, using it dried from the pan was frustrating (maybe because I was using watercolor brushes??) I ended up dabbing some paint out fresh onto my palette and enjoyed that more.
We're going to Portland Saturday and I told Keith I wanted to go to Art Mart. 😊
Is awesome!
I'm interested to see what you do with the ruling pen.
Me too!
Since I bought the darn QOR sets I vote for them. 😂
Will do!
I saw someone light fire from a magnesium pencil sharpener...🎉I have now seen another ha ha i need one of those ha ha lol😂🎉😅
So many people there whole channel is mostly hauls. and most of us crafting/artist don’t have any problem with materials on hand. So I had much rather see how they are used and if that artist like them or not before I go spending anymore money on anything else I appreciate your review so much.
Thanks! Coming soon!
I'm curious to see your comparison of the QOR pans and tubes. I feel that the tube paints don't dry well when poured in pans.
I only had trouble with cobalt violet rewetting from dry tubes. I'll compare them side by side tho:)
Hullo Lindsay, I learned how to Ink my drafting drawings in high school with a ruling pen! I remember the day the teacher bought a set of Koh-I-Noor Rapidograph Pens and everyone was so excited to try them out! I knew several of the well off kids came to the next class with sets of their own! I never had a set of my own, but the "class set" was available to everyone. In fact even my compass set was a hand-me-down from an Uncle. This is where I got my ruling pen! I have never had great luck getting Stillman & Birn to accept washes unless they were watercolor paper, I think their idea of a light wash is MUCH lighter than mine. I did hear in Becca's new video that QoR is getting 20 new colors! how about you? I wold be most interested in seeing the QoR watercolors first but then you know I am a sucker for watercolors. If I got 1 or 2 of these sets, I would put the sets together and fill the other palette from tubes, what will you do? More QoR paints or do a ultimate mix?
Well, the Urban Sketch set is fabulous! I just tried the intensity set tonight and it's intense 😆 the granulators will need some friends in the box to be useful. I have lots if qor tubes so I will probably round out the sets with those after I put the sets as is through their paces and do the comparison swatching. I know they discontinued one if the colors in the granular set, ultramarine pink, maybe there were others and that's why I got such a deal?
Bought the Urban Sketch set before I even finished watching the video 😂 these prices are too good to pass up!
You will love it!
You got a great price on those Qor sets. I was tempted by one at Michael's today, but it was $54!
You know, if I was traveling and didn't have paint I would pay it for the Urban Sketch set. I an loving it!
Funny you mention traveling, because the only reason I looked twice at the Qor set is because I'm heading out soon and I want to do watercolor sketches on the road. Instead of purchasing, I put together a Franken-palette of Daniel Smith and Van Gogh pans I already had on hand. Would love to see a video featuring the urban sketch set, though.
@@lesleyegbert4807 will do!
I've never tried pastels, a little acrylic but I'm a watercolor gal.
I love using them!
You are right. I want RUclips to show me what the channels I subscribe to are doing. Instead I get random stuff that doesn't include what I've subscribed to. I have to go click on the channel to see what is there. Thanks for your fun videos!
There is a “subscriptions” tab which is a feed of only channels you are subscribed to, nothing else.
@@ToWhateverEnd I'm aware. That is where I go to see the channels I want to see. I just don't appreciate the 'suggested' videos. They try to get you to watch something new and often unrelated to what you normally watch. It's just annoying.
My pleasure!
The ruling pen would be interesting.
I'm curious about it for sure!
We used to have an artists and craftsman in Berkeley! I loved that place but it closed down a year or two ago 😢
I went into an actual store last week too I never do. Well there is one near my work, but they are very over priced, that I don't buy from them. I went into a nicer little boutique store and they had 20% off store wide which was so nice. I bought a few things, as it did feel nice supporting a smaller business and their prices honestly were roughly as good as Amazon, or better once the discount was applied. Because I am in Australia, while Amazon obviously does have great prices, some items, come from Amazon US /UK and I think they raise those prices a little, to cover the 'free' international delivery. For those items, this store was actually cheaper (open stock primas were half the price for example). For items in the Amazon AU warehouse, it was maybe slightly more expensive in the store, but very close in price. If prices are close, but even a little more, I am happy to go to. I refuse the other store near my work, as they are always 15-20% more than Amazon for most things. It just isn't worth it (although I did do well with their paint sale).
Interesting
Beautiful haul I really enjoyed watching. I love oil pastels, so I would like to see those first. I'm surprised, that the van Gogh are so expensive in the US. I can find the Neopastels for 2,29€ and the van Gogh for 0,99€ incl. tax.
You live closer to here they are made, that's probably why.
I love the caran dache oil pastels! I don’t like the van goh ones the green is so streaky. (At least in the small set I got). The fancy cray pas ones it could just be a bad set I got a bad set that had leaked its oil and they were all chalky, but the replacement batch was really nice. So there may be some quality control issues on shipping to the US or something if you aren’t liking the ones you got.
I agree. Love the Neopastels, but not a big fan of the Van Gogh - too many crumbs.
