Thank you for doing these videos, Ohana. Mahalo.
Thanks so much for doing another Tool song! 💜 I'd love to hear more of anything Maynard! Based on this list you've covered a lot of Tool already, but A Perfect Circle and Puscifer are also fantastic bands with plenty of great materia stilll to discover!
Love your reactions, my man! I've grown up with Tool, & they've progressed from dark and visceral, to deep and spiritual. In every incarnation they've embodied human emotion so completely it's why their following is so passionate. They represent what humans are/could be musically. 🖤
You haven't done 'Culling Voices' off 'Fear Inoculum'! Quite different in structure and tone, and very moving live when they come up front together to perform the first half of the song.
Most Tool songs are a road trip. This one is like a joy ride - alone at night on the highway going 90 mphs, windows rolled down, howling at nothing as the wind and the sound of the engine drown out your frustration.

Sure enough, they open with that song, my brother looked at me and I'm tearing up yelling HOOKER WITH A PENIS repeatedly, I was teary eyed the whole show.
I would recommend all the tracks you haven’t done from Undertow. Bottom, Flood, Undertow, Crawl Away, Swamp Song and 4°. As well as Eulogy and H. From Ænima.
big angry Maynard in this one! basically saying "spoiler": "he sold out? so what?" hahaha! the sound of this whole album is really bringing me back! every album sounds different but I kinda miss that sound! mostly on the guitar! nostalgia setting in! great reaction and decomposing as always! aaawright!
HWAP is the spiritual predecessor of Ticks and Leeches. Seeing them play this live on this past tour was truly eye opening. They can still go so hard when they want too, it was so punk/thrash/hardcore all at once.
I would love to hear you react to Prison Sex by Tool. It's the first song of theirs I heard in the early/mid 90s and it hooked me for life. Never had I seen or heard something so dark and yet absolutely angrily groovy.
Agreed, same for me, my first song also - hooked on the first few notes - I'm a lifer. Add in the video for this song and it's so visceral - words become useless, just let the other side of the brain flow and get out of the way.
On the surface the song is about an "OG fan" accusing Maynard and Tool of selling out, since they were getting pretty huge at that time after success with Undertow, and Maynard pointing out to him that he is wearing brand name clothes drinking coke and basically being hypocritical. On a deeper level... hell I don't know if there's really a deeper level to this one haha.
It’s about the question of art vs commerce - if great art serves its purpose and is transcendental or discomforting then what does it matter how much it costs? Or how much the artist makes? MJK also whispers the Tool merch list and serial numbers throughout the song - a comedic and lighter take on what Juda Priest were accused of (putting subliminal messages in their music). Bill Hicks once said something along the lines of Why would a band want their fans to kill themselves? And so Tool want you to buy their new record, and t shirts, and mugs, and underwear… 😂
@@iankrasnow5383the title is self explanatory I thought. Some no nothing stan is accusing them of being a sell out. Selling out being prostituting yourself for money and fame. The band are all guys, hence the douche was accusing them of being hookers with a penis. What I love about the song is how many toxic stans there are who don't know it's about them. They're the same ones who on message boards, then forums, then social media also complained about the length of time it was taking for the next Tool album to be done. 😂
One of the great thing about Tool is that you can literally go through every single song and always be amazed by the quality of their arrangements and top notch musicianship, in every single aspect of their performances!
Toms is like his punctuation, snares work like vowels and the cymbal and high hat consonants. So it becomes like rhythmic poetry, while also leaving points for the vocals to seam together with. It may not be technically accurate, or consistent throughout the discography of Tool, but it's how I hear it.
This is my all-time favourite Tool song. This was the hook for me. I love how Maynard can be super straight forward while still adding a little impish metaphorical layer on top lol what a great track!
My favorite band is TOOL, and these videos reveal to me another dimension to their songs. I hope to become a sound engineer and your vids help me get a bit more understanding in this field (although its a bit hard, since I'm only 16). Super excited to see you react to Chocolate Chip Trip, I saw TOOL live in Budapest and it was amazing, definetly worth the trip from Romania. Keep up the awesome videos!
Go for it dude. 16 is so young. I'm 28 and there's so many things I wish I started at 16. You could be an excellent sound engineer by 23 if you start studying hard now. Throw yourself into it and don't give up
If you haven't seen them already I highly recommend watching the videos by Rick Beato called What Makes This Song Great, he does some vids on Tool songs and it's so cool hearing individual parts of the songs isolated and discussed by Rick. He's a long time professional music producer, he and Geebz here are two of my favorite music guys on youtube😎🤙
I'm not sure why, but I always have a mental block with this song title. I recognize it as a Tool song, but I never match it to the song... I'm just stuck sitting there wondering what it might be. Then I hear the very beginning. Then my adrenal gland starts pumping. I don't even need to get to the "... I've got some advice for you little buddy..." part for the adrenaline surge. It's already there from the beginning of the song, anticipatorily. But the euphoric rage that I feel when he sings the quote I just wrote, it's truly remarkable. To feel rage, but not in the form of violence toward the target... "... then you're the man and he's the man as well...". Is it condescending? Yes. Is it confrontational? Yes. But at it's heart it is about a fan who says something, and Maynard's message to that fan, with aggression, certainly, but also an attempt to pull him out of his "I have to tear you down to lift myself up" bullshit. Does he do it gently? No. Is it an attempt at education? Yes, I would argue that it is. Given the relative social status, and this being an "artist to fan on the street" interaction, especially after the fan said something rude, unsolicited criticism, the emotions make sense. This would be far less effective (and affective, at least for me) if the lyrics were belittling or mocking the fan. Instead, while there is intensity and hostility here, there is also a desire to get that person to open their eyes and see that he is already cool, without needed to pull himself up by tearing something else down. Thanks Geebz, I appreciate your content. :)

Two amazing Tool songs I haven't see you cover yet are: Pushit the live version from the Salival box set (extremely different from the original, more emotional & an amazing drum solo) and Eon Blue Apocalypse(intro) with The Patient off Lateralus
Puscifer just went on tour. The Underwhelming or Bread & circus. Corina Round is just outstanding. Plus the engineering on this album is phenomenal. You will pick up on what their doing with it.
Really glad you reacted to this band! When I used to do taekwondo, still do just Covid and everything. My dad used to play this and Protest the Hero all the time! my memories of this band are great, hope you have an amazing day! Thanks!
I noticed you haven’t done Eon Blue Apocalypse/The Patient. That’s one you gotta check out. It’s about is struggle dealing with his mothers stroke. An emotional song. Love your break downs!
Gotta disagree with you there, primarily because their songs are intentionally about whatever you want them to be about. Second, I think Lateralus doesn't have much to do with his mother, I think that album is a bit more... esoteric, kinda cerebral. But, don't let me tell you what it's about, make up your own mind. The Patient is definitely an amazing song, though!
The day this came out in October of 96, I was at the end of a road trip/bachelor's party from Idaho to New York. We stopped at a record store in Ridgefield, Connecticut, and bought this. The old Subaru we had was sporting a tape deck with an adapter to a Sony Discman. We cranked this album for days. The first time we heard this song, we looked at each other and said in unison "did he just say what I think he said?". So many good ski bum road trip memories with Tool on the play list. A year or so later, Danny Carey walked into our little ski and snowboard shop to rent some gear for a week. That is another story altogether.
Geebz: I'll bet Maynard has some super dark, super meaningful lyrics behind this. Maynard: Buy, buy, buy my new record! Buy, buy, buy, send more money! Seriously tho this song is so good.
I went to a high school in the 90's built for 1600 people, but with a population of 2700. The was worked around by having a modular system so that some people would be out of class while others were in class. But every day aroung 9 am, everyone had to be in a room for registry. When the clock showed one minute to the end of registry, I'd gather my stuff and park near the door, and when with the clock said 15 seconds to, I'd hit play on Hooker with a Penis. When that bell rang, I shot out of that classroom with my guitar held in front of my like a spear, and I cleaved through the student body as I charged forward to my next class. I can't hear the intro without my heart starting to beat and the feeling that shit's about to go down. Cheers for this.
This has always been one of my favourite TOOL songs. I think the main thing about TOOL for me and how I explain them to people who are yet to be initiated, is that individually how amazing they all are as musicians. Bring them together and you get this incredible combination of fantastic compositions and tbh, a mood for almost every situation possible. 🤘🏼 I hadn't realised that you had done so many reactions to TOOL now, I'll have a look at your playlists to see firstly, if I've missed any, and secondly to see what I can suggest! *Edited to suggest Eulogy! Can't see it in your playlist
The lyrics are really what makes this one great, you should do a deeper dive into them. And they're not really all that deep like some other Tool songs (Its a simple commentary on the useless fools that produce nothing then accuse their favorite artists of "selling out" because they became popular).
Going through the tool playlist I noticed the only song you did off of the Undertow album was Sober and the Undertow album is very raw and heavy like HWAP so that'd be a good place to start next. Undertow (the song), Bottom, or Swamp Song are some good ones off that album imo. On the AEnima album you still got one of my favorite tracks Eulogy. The other tracks left on that album are Jimmy, - Ions (which is an instrumental), and some interludes. On Lateralus you haven't done The Patient and Prabol/Parabola. Then there is Disposition, Reflection, and Triad which are usually recommended to be done all in one go but you have already done Reflection so its up to you whether you'd want to give it another listen. 10,000 days still has Intension and Viginti Tres (which is an instrumental). Fear Inoculum still has Culling Voices and Chocolate Chip trip (which you already mentioned).
Love your Tool reactions. One suggestion would be to do Tool’s “Holy Trinity” from the Lateralus - Disposition, Reflection, and Triad. Listen to these 3 songs continuously without stopping, they naturally flow from one to another 😎 and really go down the 🌀 😁
Great video as usual. Started with you with tool. Stayed for the rest. But still love when you revisit them. Of The vast amount of their songs you’ve covered I think “the patient” is the remaining one I would highly recommend. It’s a song I turn to frequently to remind myself when to persevere.
If you think about it, one of the first forms of music early hominids experienced would have been percussive sounds. Before the creation of instruments, we really only had our vocal sounds and the ability to beat on things with our hands or objects. Our whole being relies on the beat of our heart which resonates through the body. It makes total sense that it's ingrained within our nervous system
As you've probably already learned, this song was about a trendy boy telling Maynard that's he sold out to the man, and is Maynard's response. Glad you're back to Tool, here's a few earlier songs I'll never dislike: Opiate EP: Cold & Ugly (LIVE) Undertow: Crawl Away, Bottom, Flood
@@JH-3301dr did you ever watch any live RUclips clips or anything beforehand? I actually listen to Puscifer more than I do Tool or APC. Tool is still my all-time fav but Puscifer is right up there in my top 4 or 5. They can do heavy stuff like Telling Ghosts or Man Overboard, really moving and touching stuff like Humbling River or Grand Canyon, there's a touch of country art rock and even punk in there.. Carina Round and Maynard harmonize so brilliantly together, shit I love it.
Yes! Great track, and great video. Very intense. As far as this album goes, I would love to see you do Intermission leading into Jimmy for a video. And I agree with people requesting Bottom, it's so good, and more Undertow would be appreciated.
Oh, we'll need a lyrical vid too. LoL - Maynard holds no punches' in this one like he didn't in Ænema (Learn to swim!) ... or like he doesn't in Puscifer's song The Remedy
Geebz! You've done so many tool songs, i was having a hard time finding songs you haven't done!! You need to check out "Eon Blue Apocalypse" fading into "The Patient". Incredible transitions! Also if you want some straight forward tool, Check out "Jerk-Off" and "Intolerance"! Thank you as always!
Absolutely love this, would love a Kyuss reaction again! Phototropic plus 50 Million Year Round Trip (Upside Up) with Queens of Stone Age too! You Cant Quit Me Baby, anything Josh Homme related! 3 parter?!
literally my favourite Tool song. Was disappointed he didn't sing it when I saw them in 2002. (Lateralus tour) Lyrically the sentiment is awesome to hear in a song. Literally, fuck you I sold my soul to make this record, fuck you buddy, buy my record, fuck you buddy, etc. etc. Musically it's fucking bad ass for sure.
There is a live album from tool called Salival. There is a pure instrumental song on it called Merkaba. I think you would really enjoy decomposing it. Give it a listen, or any song from the Salival album.
Love the stoner rock intro on this song when I was in highschool my mom's old man at the time got me into stoner rock and that was always my favorite intro setup lazy headbang riff progression but just heavy distortion.
Thanks Geebz! Always a good day when we get a TOOL decomposition. Would love to hear your thoughts on a Karnivool classic - Set Fire to the Hive! Cheers Geebz

Swamp Song! Awesome wordplay, heavy sound, great when you're pissed at someone.
Miss you brother...glad you're well, thanks for the TooL reaction!
Please do Bottom at some point! So good! Off their 1993 debut album, Undertow. It features Henry Rollins.
Geebz: I'll bet Maynard has some super dark, super meaningful lyrics behind this.
Maynard: Buy, buy, buy my new record! Buy, buy, buy, send more money!
Seriously tho this song is so good.
You gotta listen w lyrics, maybe their most raw and truthful message out of all their stuff. Gold.
I love this song so much, especially as I've met so many Tool stans who don't seem to realise this song is about them.
This song is a blast.. I feel in sync with his drive.. fck I love his vocals
Love waking up to a new TOOL decomposition! Love ya Geebz ❤
You definitely have to listen to the Extended version of Jerk Off live 🤟🏻
So much nostalgia with this song and this album. Great F U jam 👍
Hey Geebz! Great video (as always), can I recommend a song by NIN called Down in It.
It’s a bloody great song, love from Australia.
I super enjoy and miss the raw sound of early tool. Its all good but undertow is my first tool album I had. Great times driving around listening to it
I started following from the beginning for TOOL. I'm here for TOOL first and foremost. Geebz didn't disappoint
Thanks again Sir!
Hope every one in the Tool army watched the entire video, unlike those other fans.....
The lyrics are really what makes this one great, you should do a deeper dive into them. And they're not really all that deep like some other Tool songs (Its a simple commentary on the useless fools that produce nothing then accuse their favorite artists of "selling out" because they became popular).
Look at more of what he watched. He done about 5-7 of tool
@@brandonmalone5758 He means a deeper dive into the lyrics.
@@af7119 ahhh, missed that
@@brandonmalone5758 At least that's my opinion! I could be wrong.
@@af7119 no no, you’re for sure right
Going through the tool playlist I noticed the only song you did off of the Undertow album was Sober and the Undertow album is very raw and heavy like HWAP so that'd be a good place to start next.
Solid list, if I had to narrow to 3, Swamp Song, Eulogy and Culling Voices. (The Parabol/Parabola combo is #7 on the playlist.)
Have you done "like a stone" by audioslave?
"You lied" would be a sick decomposition video. It's off the salival album.
Love your Tool reactions. One suggestion would be to do Tool’s “Holy Trinity” from the Lateralus - Disposition, Reflection, and Triad. Listen to these 3 songs continuously without stopping, they naturally flow from one to another 😎 and really go down the 🌀 😁
I have been waiting forever for someone to react to this song.
Great video as usual. Started with you with tool. Stayed for the rest. But still love when you revisit them. Of The vast amount of their songs you’ve covered I think “the patient” is the remaining one I would highly recommend. It’s a song I turn to frequently to remind myself when to persevere.
“Danny is just Danny” made me laugh so hard hahahaha
TOOL just never disappoints. This is absolutely one of my favorite tracks they've ever recorded. And was so stoked to see it live on the last tour!
I think percussion is in our DNA.
We all instinctively respond to percussion playing, especially toms and bass.
It awakens a part of our brains.
You're up to 233k subscribers...I started following you around 12k..congrats on all your success and keep reacting to Maynards trio of bands
Thank you so much!!
Man, I love your channel
As you've probably already learned, this song was about a trendy boy telling Maynard that's he sold out to the man, and is Maynard's response. Glad you're back to Tool, here's a few earlier songs I'll never dislike:
Opiate EP: Cold & Ugly (LIVE)
Undertow: Crawl Away, Bottom, Flood
Aloha Geebz! I don't think you've done the song Flood, but its one of my personal favorites from Undertow.
"Eulogy" is a must Geebz!!!
Maynard uses a megaphone with his vocals a lot, even live, also did it with Puscifer when I saw them Saturday.
How' was Puscifer's set... or do I need to even ask?
@@williamcozart8158 It was as you'd expect, pretty amazing.
I didn't know what to expect when seeing Puscifer the 1st time but I'm sure glad I did! Absolutely amazing live!
@@williamcozart8158 No I had seen any concert footage beforehand & was only familiar with audio recordings.
The tour is over. They did play this song on these recent shows
100% eulogy, hush, bottom, pushit but the live version on salival, the patient, crawl away would all be good moves
Yes! Great track, and great video. Very intense. As far as this album goes, I would love to see you do Intermission leading into Jimmy for a video. And I agree with people requesting Bottom, it's so good, and more Undertow would be appreciated.
One of my favorites of Tools! What a crazy ass song though lol.
Swamp Song - my fav
Btw they announced a Puscifer tour also
Oh, we'll need a lyrical vid too. LoL - Maynard holds no punches' in this one like he didn't in Ænema (Learn to swim!) ... or like he doesn't in Puscifer's song The Remedy
This is a great callout song, nearly as much so as Ænema
Been dying to see you do EULOGY since day one! Still here, Geebz! 🤙🏼
3 parter?!
You made my day brother!! TOOL!!
The Patient from Lateralus has been on the list for awhile!
Maybe it’s time.
Awwwright!!🤙
So glad you decided to do this one! Love it. The lyrics are what sale this song. You should do a lyrical reaction. That’d be awesome.
literally my favourite Tool song.
I saw them play this song live in Anaheim this year. Maynard started the show by saying that every time he comes to California, it smells like weed.
Thanks Geebz! Always a good day when we get a TOOL decomposition.
Would love to hear your thoughts on a Karnivool classic - Set Fire to the Hive!
Cheers Geebz
