@@Ze_Moose Race was mentioned. The interviewer asked the new sheriff if he thought O'Connell's determination to pin the crime on three people who didn't do it was "over-reach by a cop gunning for a promotion, racism, or tunnel vision" Imho he didn't even need to ask. It's crystal clear WHY those three were isolated and persued.

I had an awful experience with a NYC detective. To make a long story short, he targeted me for a crime I did not commit. He knew all the evidence pointed to another woman. He did not care. They offered me something called and ACD but I said no. That I wanted to go to trial. I was found not guilty in 15 minutes. The jury AND the judge met me in the hallway afterwards and apologized for what I went through. You see I was put behind bars in a holding sell for 11 hours as they were about to process me to go to Riker's Island. I lost my job and my pension EVEN though I was innocent. I sued and though it took 7 years I settled for $1/4M. That might seem like a lot but my career was ruined and I had to start all over again. When I shared my story with law students, I always said that it would have been much worse if I were black. Also, the detective stated that I was arrested because of a new initiative by of all people the then mayor, the now disbarred Rudy G. I would not wish my story or this one on my worst enemy. The detective in my case was not reprimanded and retired with a full pension.

Dateline did this story and in it Heather’s family were so frustrated with Sean O’Connell. They voiced pretty early on that they wanted another investigator. It’s baffling how he can stand by his investigation and not take the DNA evidence from her body into consideration and rule out those three innocent people. Instead of investigating to see where the evidence takes him, he tried to find a way to implicate them without a shred of evidence. It’s scary how he looks so believable in his interviews. He served 25 years on the force? Makes you wonder if he had such tunnel vision on his other cases and possible innocent people in prison. Glad that monster is where he belongs and Heather finally got justice. RIP.

I am NOT condoning the mistakes of the first policeman but how can people read his heart and say that “he’s a racist!” I think he should have lost his job for sloppy police work but to put someone in prison who served this country in the military and then had a 25 year service as a policeman is too much. Unless there were other examples of racism over his 25 years, then this was lazy and sloppy work. Since nothing else was brought up that would indicate that he was trying to fix cases against people due to racism, then this was overkill and that journalist poured fuel on the fire. That’s what these lefties do. They hate the police and any time they can, they try to bring them down. I do not see him as some great protector of justice as he sees himself.

The only thing you can prove about the first investigator is his incompetence, nothing else. YT commenters unaware of the concept of _irony_ are accusing him of racism and corruption: Every one of those commenters are guilty of a measure of exactly what they accuse him of. Oh, the irony.

They went after him because they needed to nail him so they could go after the actual killer. The case against him was rather thin. For better or for worse, when police send recommendations over to the DA's office, they commonly send over only the evidence that helps them. It is a very different animal than withholding exculpatory information from the defense, which violates Brady. And this guy made it easy to go after him, because he had a history of being wrong.
