I really appreciate how Zak trys to tell people that pit bulls aren't bad! Any breed can be a great dog they just need proper training! I myself have never had a pit bull it has always been German Shepherds, but I still appreciate it!
Harmony Devaney I have a pitbull and I have met many others from family and friends.. in my opinion they are the best dogs ever. Very smart, looks intimidating but are soo sweet and very loyal. Also the thing I love most about my pit is he is very cuddling :)
If this works on my hyper dog, Jasper, I will 100% set up to send monthly tips cause he is such a stress all the time that anyone who is able to help me train him, definitely should be getting money for doing such an amazing job!

I think this is far from being "brainwashed" and in fact I would say you may be either misinformed or a "redard" as you put it. Also saying "you can't cure retardness" whilst using poor spelling, grammar and punctuation is rather ironic. The pitbull is evidently dangerous according to statistics when compared to other dogs and this is not some sort of conspiracy to misinform by the "media" and people who believe the evidence and cold hard facts are "retarded" which is absurd.
Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games ruclips.net/user/postUgkxECnmSvBSv_NGWx4_ChD73pF3NYZwI2F3 and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!
I love that you can tell he really loves dogs. Some trainers get so wrapped up in being professional, they start acting kind of cold. Just because you're training him, doesn't mean he isn't a big, goofy cutie that needs kisses.
I'd actually like to see a video of you working with a reactive dog. All i've seen so far are videos of you working with dogs that are docile in nature. Reactive dogs are a whole new element and i think a lot of people would benefit from seeing different personalities being worked with.

I agree. Most training videos I've seen are with dogs WAY different than the dog I'm dealing with. I want to see more training with difficult dogs, not the calm, docile or already trained dogs. I want to see how Zac would handle a 14 week old stubborn, hyper-active Vizsla like the one I'm trying to train. Then I could relate and compare to see what I'm doing wrong. I've tried his method but my Vizsla ignores me even while holding treats right under his nose. Might be time to call Cesar Milan.
I feel so much smarter after watching this trainer. I fail yesterday with my dog pulling me down the side walk. Blessed not to have gotten hurt when I fell. This guy is someone I will definitely watch again! This is our first dog and he taught me a lot. Thank you so much for your instructions they are wonderful and very helpful!

@@zakgeorge Hey, my dog is a hunting dog bred to hunt bears so her nose is RIDICULOUS!!! Walking is a challenge because she'll smell something like 500 yards away and sprint. She is sweet and never barks but this is a real problem. Any way you can help? btw I adore ur channel and think that u should have at least 10 mil subs. Wish u weren't so busy so u could actually reply :(. Maybe do a video with an untrained hunting hound? i dunno love ur channel tho and i subscribe

I started this kind of leash training only four or three days ago with my 7 years old cockerspaniel and I have to say that this is the best method so far and I have tried almost everything before..! He is already understanding this and it is also pleasant way to teach so thank you! Maybe we can finally get rid of barking to other dogs while walking too by using this suprisingly simple style :)

How does your dog do now? I'm currently trying this one week with my 7 years old king charles cavalier spaniel. She is now walking on leash without pulling very well untill there comes a distraction, especially other dogs. There has been a lot of progress so far and I want to see if others have older dogs with the same behaviour and made good progress aswell.
I also have cocker spaniel, my is 6 months old and im gonna introduce him to this method, cause i have to say my arm is not made from steel lol. But the thing is, with my dog is hard to go on walk. If i have treat in my heand he will just jump on me and try to take it, so i ahve to be constantly bend to him and it's not realy comfortable

I had two shelter cats that I dearly loved, then adopted a pocket pittie who had a perfect behavioral score but was out of time, never knew how sweet, gentle, non reactive, dog and even cat friendly a pittie could be, they are so wrongly stigmatized across the board. what should I do if my dog isn't into food rewards or toys when she's more interested in the surroundings? she will do everything possible to look around me..she's great in the house, really bright and compliant. totally different dog outside!
+Karl Humphreys you have to get your dog used to being outside of the house while on a leash, take them out in the yard or driveway and train. if thats still to far try it in a room with the view of the outside. like he said, unfamiliar = intresting

This is plain training of a dog based on tons of treats. I never train my dog of this way , because I do not start the walk when I am already outside. It starts in the apartment where you constatly have to show your dog who is in charge. If you start the walk outside when the dog has tons of noices and sounds and is more active, when you treat him like that you encourage tons of other behaviours. I treat my dog when I get back home with the food he gets daily, if he was nice, he gets it right away, if he misbehaves and I had to correct him by letting him know he is doing wrong, he only gets meal once he is in the state of mind that I want him to be, which is usually about an hour later from comming back from home. Sometimes even longer. And it works like charm for me. I disagree with tons of treats to give to my dog if he did not deserve it. And no I am not heartless, I just give reward to my dog when he behaves as I'd like him to behave and when he is in mental state I'd like him to be. It is me who gives the reward to dog. It is always me and what I want of my dog to do. It is like negotiating with terrorist. You don't. Otherwise he will keep doing what you don't want. I know people sometimes think it is harsh being of that way to a dog, but you have to remember that dogs come from family of wolves where they can go days without food or water. But that is why we as humans care about them to not get to that point.
I'm going to be adopting a rescue labrador tomorrow. It's my first time owning a rescue dog (we had a rescue Peek-A-Poo when I was 4) and I've been watching a lot of these videos so I can train him properly. I have a boxer puppy, roughly 3 months old. He gets distracted with leaves and usually tries to chase my other dog who I also let out. This lead him to occasionally pull on the leash or wait for the other dog to come back to the house. When I only took the puppy out, he did a bit better, but still tries to go for leaves and twigs. Any advice?

When I try to stop him on his tracks he keeps pulling and staring at whatever got him distracted and we can just stand there for long minutes without him looking back or easing up on the leash. VERY difficult to get his attention on me, even when nobody's around.
+Eszter Edl I have a beagle/dalmation mix 18 months old. I am working with a trainer and she taught me to hold the leash in my off hand palm down a foot or less from the collar. Keep the dog by your side and walk normally. Hunter was a puller for sure. With this method he instantly starting behaving. I keep the leash loose in my hand until he starts moving in a way I don't want him to. Then I tighten my grip. Have been working with him for 2 weeks like that and it's like night and day. I also bring treats. Puparoni seems to be the treat he can't resist so I use that. Some use a Kong filled with Cheese Wiz and freeze it.

Zak's method is great. He is definitely a pack leader. Slow but steady. The dog might not see him a leader but he corrects the dog with patience and eventually, the dog trusts him and follows.

My dog is a wired hair terrier and lab mix breed, he is realy crazy and u have helped me a ton with him. You help me so much and you have helped him get used to water. When he did get used to water I was afraid when he did not want to get out of the tub and now when I have free time I can run some water put some of his toys in and he will play and play and play. Can you do a video about car safety for dogs? What are the best safety harnesses for car rides? What about small dogs? I can never find any solid information about small dogs in cars
The thing i do with dogs is just put them in the car with windows completely down. Then tell them to stay. Then do your best to lure your dog out the window for like a half second and when they dont jump up or put paws on window edge reward them right away. Its important that the do not put paws up on window ledge as this is the first step of them jumpin out. Keep increasing time you try to lure them out the window. Dont use the word come or what ever word you use for ya dog to come to ya. Use any other word though to try to lure. once your dog absolutely refuses to put its paws even up on the window ledge. Step up the lure to something your dog really likes to chase. BTW dont make the same mistake i did and tie your dog to the inside of your car and leave too much slack. Test to make sure how you secure your dog that the harness wont slip or anything. One time my dog darn near hung herself. I thought i had the lead short enough but when she jumped out the window to go after the deer we were watching she kind of hung herself. I got extremely lucky she did not hurt herself. But that did cure her of wanting to ever jump out of the window after a deer again.

How cold and what kind of dogs? My Weimaraners love the snow but they also love their jackets when it is cold. Do you like snow? If not, the challenge may not be at the dog's end of the leash ;-)
You can train your dogs to use a treadmill inside. When I was pregnant this is what I did with my boxer and my pit. At first they were both scared of the treadmill but after a few days they loved it! My boxer would get on the treadmill by himself and look at me like "turn it on I'm ready" 😂
I used to live near Lake Tahoe CA and had to deal with 4 feet of snow every winter where even my SUV couldn't get out of the driveway. If you have a smaller breed of dog, you could play fetch with them inside. That's what I've been doing with my Shiba. I also have a cat that likes playing with him that keeps him busy.
Can you do a video on how to keep dogs from attacking eachother? I just bought a 7 week old golden retriever puppy and my brother bought a 7 week old pit bull and they attack each other anytime they are in the same room together. How can I prevent this from happening?

I'm so glad you made this video Zak, I have a 7 month old pitbull and love taking her to walk at the park near my house. The park we walk at is full of kids playing soccer year round and other runners, so she gets really distracted and wants to play and chase them. She isn't violent, she just really loves attention and playing, but with her being a pit, she automatically gets the negative stigma unfortunately. I don't want her to get too close to the kids there at the park because parents automatically freak out and I would hate for us to be banned from the park. I'm going to start incorporating these tips in her training and see how she does! Again, thank you Zak!

Johnnie Thomas we went through the same thing with our boy King Lou he is now 140 pounds at 16 months when he was only 15 weeks old he was 60 pounds and he just threw his weight around even as a pup he would walk on top of everyone if you were laying down siting it didn't matter we started in our bedroom because he slept their with us any time he would forceful and walk on top of us I would immediately say no and remove him From the bed and once he was calm u would let him back up and i continued to do this each and every time he would In our bed and after a while he got the hang of it when i said no when he was approaching he would imediately stop in his tracks and lay down Because he didn't Wana get put off the bed and from their we used it our living in our family room in really any situation that it called for

We do an attention game as we watch TV... Food in hands ,stretch hands out and when dog comes and looks in your eyes , instead of food in the hands... We say "yes," gets a treat.... It's fun when you are sitting and gets him to focus like when you are out walking......
jacob is stunnning!! love this advice. i often used freeze dried beef liver when training my pits to walk. i volunteer for a program at my shelter that works exclusively with the pits to teach them manners and obedience which in turn helps them to get adopted. we use lots of these techniques.

Where are the end results? You spend 8 minutes giving treats to the dog, and only making it half a block down the street. I wanna see the results of this. You walking the same dog down the same street and not having to give him 50 treats just to be good. Most people don't have time to stop and make their dog sit 100 times during a walk. This is impractical. Maybe you should do a before and after. Spend 1 minute walking the dog down the street before any of your training. Then do your whole training spill. Then at the end, walk the dog down the same street without having to stop him numerous times and treating to show an end result.
+Projector Gaming This is the exact problem I am having with my dog. He acts much the same though less hyper about it, always wanting to pull and run to the next interesting thing that I'd be happy to walk over to without him trying to drag me. I tried this same method and it is never ending. You either use an entire chicken to take one walk or he completely ignores you if he knows you don't have treat in hand.
You won't have to do this forever - the key to success is repetition. If you put the time in to training, you will have the easiest time after! I you don't have the time to put into the proper training - perhaps you should reconsider being a pet owner. Animals, like children, require a lot of care and attention while raising/training them!
I am a dog trainer and I use pretty much this same method. Yes you have to do this 100 times and only going one block sometimes. that is what it takes to teach a new concept to a dog, especially when it involves making yourself more interesting than everything else in the environment. You don't have to do this forever.... just however long it takes to teach your dog how to stay with you. it can take as little as days, to weeks, and even months to leash train your dog. If you want results, it takes time and a ton of patience. This is also a great way to bond and build trust with your dog.
these comments are all wrong. this training method is impractical. the dog should never lead the leash, you want to be the leader not the dog. these new modern methods on approaching the dog is also, why they are being euthanized because humans want to treat dogs like humans
Absolutely love this video I have a large staffy x who pulls a bit and is out of control with excitement when she comes across other people and dogs. She's very friendly but I would like to take her to the dog beach without her running away and being uncontrollable. I'm definitely trying this technique

Honestly guy...you're a super entertaining fella. But all the dogs you work with are weak low energy omega dogs...You have some great strategies and you're good with dogs but there a large population of people out there that have dogs that will not respond to your "brand of training." The fact that there's so many people coming on your comments and saying your methods don't work says a lot...I think you're misleading a lot of people into thinking that you have some magic "more humane" way of teaching dogs. 4 million dogs end up a shelter every year and it's because people think that they should train every dog like this...

Lol someone’s doing some projecting and revealing. Did you have trouble training a dog and then wanted to take it to a shelter? Lol. That’s an odd last thought. Only spiritually shit people would take a dog to a shelter if it didn’t learn fetch properly, if you raise it then you likely love it and then you wouldnt mind much. And what do you mean more humane? There’s no reason you would ever need to use anything inhumane on something you love or even care for for that matter. If you love your dog you show it love. If your dogs an idiot it’s cuz your training it to be one haha, or your not giving it what it needs. it’s almost always the owners fault if a dog has issues. Dogs turn out like their owners more often than not anyway, add a few nutty quirks in there. I’ve got my 3rd pit bull but he’s a perfect dewg and very gentle and loving because I raised him with those two things, he never fights and he listens except when there’s a squirrel.
Ha! He looks like my dog Remi (in my picture) She's extremely high energy 4.5 years... I adopted her from the shelter at 6 months, she was street enchant (hell on wheels). I like to work focus training, then a follow me, reward as she's walking with a loose leash. I change direction, and make it fun, I also stay calm and do not hold the leash with tension on my end. I walk her three times a day, 1 to 2 miles a day. What works is getting the dogs out into new environments every day, and working the cues in high distractions. I pair that with mental and physically stimulation. She has become an awesome trick dog and Frisbee catcher! Thanks Zak!
Love this my trainer told me to quit treating my dog. His behavior went way down. He's getting treated at home and behaving better now. I'm training him on competitive obedience all with treats before our class starts. I'm setting him up to succeed.

(lol) I think I am on the right track but this video showed me that I need to be moving slower with the training because my dog is a little bit "gifted" with extra attention to things that are none of his business. I always appreciate watching your videos because of your reminders that it's OK to take a few steps backward if necessary, if not achieving the desired results. The last year with my little terror has been filled with failed attempts at different tasks and I so appreciate the reminders that it's OK, just take a few steps back and try again. You have helped me SO much to be patient and accept that it's fine that we're not as successful as I would like. We go back to the drawing board frequently but we never stop trying!

We went to training and all BUT I JUST DID THIS TECHNIQUE LIKE 15 MINUTES AGO AND IT WORKED!!! The first time it worked. Im so happy. I was getting so frustrated and sad because walking her was just not for pleasure anymore. And i actually liked it this time. I counted 3 times where she was pulling a little bit and as soon as I called her name she came back and walked nicely. Thank you so much. I dont know why all the other stuff didnt work (maybe because of the chicken tbh hahaha)
The thing is i watch people like beckman who do do treats and stuff but also corrections and his work perfectly... and so does this it seems. It's tough figuring out what to do but I think both are needed in different circumstances.

I really appreciate how Zak trys to tell people that pit bulls aren't bad! Any breed can be a great dog they just need proper training! I myself have never had a pit bull it has always been German Shepherds, but I still appreciate it!

Harmony Devaney I have a pitbull and I have met many others from family and friends.. in my opinion they are the best dogs ever. Very smart, looks intimidating but are soo sweet and very loyal. Also the thing I love most about my pit is he is very cuddling :)
If this works on my hyper dog, Jasper, I will 100% set up to send monthly tips cause he is such a stress all the time that anyone who is able to help me train him, definitely should be getting money for doing such an amazing job!

I think this is far from being "brainwashed" and in fact I would say you may be either misinformed or a "redard" as you put it. Also saying "you can't cure retardness" whilst using poor spelling, grammar and punctuation is rather ironic. The pitbull is evidently dangerous according to statistics when compared to other dogs and this is not some sort of conspiracy to misinform by the "media" and people who believe the evidence and cold hard facts are "retarded" which is absurd.
Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games ruclips.net/user/postUgkxECnmSvBSv_NGWx4_ChD73pF3NYZwI2F3 and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!
I love that you can tell he really loves dogs. Some trainers get so wrapped up in being professional, they start acting kind of cold. Just because you're training him, doesn't mean he isn't a big, goofy cutie that needs kisses.

I'd actually like to see a video of you working with a reactive dog. All i've seen so far are videos of you working with dogs that are docile in nature. Reactive dogs are a whole new element and i think a lot of people would benefit from seeing different personalities being worked with.

I agree. Most training videos I've seen are with dogs WAY different than the dog I'm dealing with. I want to see more training with difficult dogs, not the calm, docile or already trained dogs. I want to see how Zac would handle a 14 week old stubborn, hyper-active Vizsla like the one I'm trying to train. Then I could relate and compare to see what I'm doing wrong. I've tried his method but my Vizsla ignores me even while holding treats right under his nose. Might be time to call Cesar Milan.
I feel so much smarter after watching this trainer. I fail yesterday with my dog pulling me down the side walk. Blessed not to have gotten hurt when I fell. I started this kind of leash training only four or three days ago with my 7 years old cockerspaniel and I have to say that this is the best method so far and I have tried almost everything before..! He is already understanding this and it is also pleasant way to teach so thank you! Maybe we can finally get rid of barking to other dogs while walking too by using this suprisingly simple style :)

How does your dog do now? I'm currently trying this one week with my 7 years old king charles cavalier spaniel. She is now walking on leash without pulling very well untill there comes a distraction, especially other dogs. There has been a lot of progress so far and I want to see if others have older dogs with the same behaviour and made good progress aswell.
I also have cocker spaniel, my is 6 months old and im gonna introduce him to this method, cause i have to say my arm is not made from steel lol. But the thing is, with my dog is hard to go on walk. If i have treat in my heand he will just jump on me and try to take it, so i ahve to be constantly bend to him and it's not realy comfortable

I had two shelter cats that I dearly loved, then adopted a pocket pittie who had a perfect behavioral score but was out of time, never knew how sweet, gentle, non reactive, dog and even cat friendly a pittie could be, they are so wrongly stigmatized across the board. This is plain training of a dog based on tons of treats. I never train my dog of this way , because I do not start the walk when I am already outside. It starts in the apartment where you constatly have to show your dog who is in charge. If you start the walk outside when the dog has tons of noices and sounds and is more active, when you treat him like that you encourage tons of other behaviours. I treat my dog when I get back home with the food he gets daily, if he was nice, he gets it right away, if he misbehaves and I had to correct him by letting him know he is doing wrong, he only gets meal once he is in the state of mind that I want him to be, which is usually about an hour later from comming back from home. Sometimes even longer. And it works like charm for me. I disagree with tons of treats to give to my dog if he did not deserve it. And no I am not heartless, I just give reward to my dog when he behaves as I'd like him to behave and when he is in mental state I'd like him to be. It is me who gives the reward to dog. It is always me and what I want of my dog to do. It is like negotiating with terrorist. You don't. Otherwise he will keep doing what you don't want. I know people sometimes think it is harsh being of that way to a dog, but you have to remember that dogs come from family of wolves where they can go days without food or water. But that is why we as humans care about them to not get to that point.

I have a boxer puppy, roughly 3 months old. He gets distracted with leaves and usually tries to chase my other dog who I also let out. This lead him to occasionally pull on the leash or wait for the other dog to come back to the house. When I only took the puppy out, he did a bit better, but still tries to go for leaves and twigs. Any advice?

Our rescued setter is a serious puller! When I try to stop him on his tracks he keeps pulling and staring at whatever got him distracted and we can just stand there for long minutes without him looking back or easing up on the leash. VERY difficult to get his attention on me, even when nobody's around.
+Eszter Edl I have a beagle/dalmation mix 18 months old. I am working with a trainer and she taught me to hold the leash in my off hand palm down a foot or less from the collar. Keep the dog by your side and walk normally. Hunter was a puller for sure. With this method he instantly starting behaving. I keep the leash loose in my hand until he starts moving in a way I don't want him to. Then I tighten my grip. Have been working with him for 2 weeks like that and it's like night and day. I also bring treats. Puparoni seems to be the treat he can't resist so I use that. Some use a Kong filled with Cheese Wiz and freeze it.

Zak's method is great. He is definitely a pack leader. Slow but steady. The dog might not see him a leader but he corrects the dog with patience and eventually, the dog trusts him and follows.

When he did get used to water I was afraid when he did not want to get out of the tub and now when I have free time I can run some water put some of his toys in and he will play and play and play. The thing i do with dogs is just put them in the car with windows completely down. Then tell them to stay. Then do your best to lure your dog out the window for like a half second and when they dont jump up or put paws on window edge reward them right away. Its important that the do not put paws up on window ledge as this is the first step of them jumpin out. Keep increasing time you try to lure them out the window. Dont use the word come or what ever word you use for ya dog to come to ya. Use any other word though to try to lure. once your dog absolutely refuses to put its paws even up on the window ledge. Step up the lure to something your dog really likes to chase. BTW dont make the same mistake i did and tie your dog to the inside of your car and leave too much slack. Test to make sure how you secure your dog that the harness wont slip or anything. One time my dog darn near hung herself. I thought i had the lead short enough but when she jumped out the window to go after the deer we were watching she kind of hung herself. I got extremely lucky she did not hurt herself. But that did cure her of wanting to ever jump out of the window after a deer again.

How cold and what kind of dogs? My Weimaraners love the snow but they also love their jackets when it is cold. Do you like snow? If not, the challenge may not be at the dog's end of the leash ;-)
You can train your dogs to use a treadmill inside. When I was pregnant this is what I did with my boxer and my pit. At first they were both scared of the treadmill but after a few days they loved it! My boxer would get on the treadmill by himself and look at me like "turn it on I'm ready" 😂
When it's really nasty out we go to stores that allow dogs on a leash and walk. Not sure what stores allow that in Canada tho!!
I used to live near Lake Tahoe CA and had to deal with 4 feet of snow every winter where even my SUV couldn't get out of the driveway. If you have a smaller breed of dog, you could play fetch with them inside. That's what I've been doing with my Shiba. I also have a cat that likes playing with him that keeps him busy.

I'm so glad you made this video Zak, I have a 7 month old pitbull and love taking her to walk at the park near my house. The park we walk at is full of kids playing soccer year round and other runners, so she gets really distracted and wants to play and chase them. She isn't violent, she just really loves attention and playing, but with her being a pit, she automatically gets the negative stigma unfortunately. I don't want her to get too close to the kids there at the park because parents automatically freak out and I would hate for us to be banned from the park. I'm going to start incorporating these tips in her training and see how she does! Again, thank you Zak!

Johnnie Thomas we went through the same thing with our boy King Lou he is now 140 pounds at 16 months when he was only 15 weeks old he was 60 pounds and he just threw his weight around even as a pup he would walk on top of everyone if you were laying down siting it didn't matter we started in our bedroom because he slept their with us any time he would forceful and walk on top of us I would immediately say no and remove him From the bed and once he was calm u would let him back up and i continued to do this each and every time he would In our bed and after a while he got the hang of it when i said no when he was approaching he would imediately stop in his tracks and lay down Because he didn't Wana get put off the bed and from their we used it our living in our family room in really any situation that it called for

We do an attention game as we watch TV... Food in hands ,stretch hands out and when dog comes and looks in your eyes , instead of food in the hands... We say "yes," gets a treat.... It's fun when you are sitting and gets him to focus like when you are out walking......

jacob is stunnning!! love this advice. i often used freeze dried beef liver when training my pits to walk. i volunteer for a program at my shelter that works exclusively with the pits to teach them manners and obedience which in turn helps them to get adopted. we use lots of these techniques.
To take a trained dog and "train" it is easy :). How about using real untrained dog in your videos.

This dog,Lafitte went completely crazy(very similar to my own dog outdoor behavior :D),and I really like how Zak approaches him.You can see that he is also lil bit struggling ,but hey who wouldn't?!At the end -good work. It's not easy for his owner Rachel to go for an everyday walk,but she should try to train him when she's got him,not to wait until 3y to pass :/ That's why,many ,tiny easy steps are soooo very important (even if some ppl think they are stupid and unnecessary they aren't!) they will guide you to sure success and happy time with your dog! Where are the end results? You spend 8 minutes giving treats to the dog, and only making it half a block down the street. I wanna see the results of this. You walking the same dog down the same street and not having to give him 50 treats just to be good. Most people don't have time to stop and make their dog sit 100 times during a walk. This is impractical. Maybe you should do a before and after. Spend 1 minute walking the dog down the street before any of your training. Then do your whole training spill. Then at the end, walk the dog down the same street without having to stop him numerous times and treating to show an end result.
+Projector Gaming This is the exact problem I am having with my dog. He acts much the same though less hyper about it, always wanting to pull and run to the next interesting thing that I'd be happy to walk over to without him trying to drag me. I tried this same method and it is never ending. You either use an entire chicken to take one walk or he completely ignores you if he knows you don't have treat in hand.
You won't have to do this forever - the key to success is repetition. If you put the time in to training, you will have the easiest time after! I you don't have the time to put into the proper training - perhaps you should reconsider being a pet owner. Animals, like children, require a lot of care and attention while raising/training them!
I am a dog trainer and I use pretty much this same method. Yes you have to do this 100 times and only going one block sometimes. that is what it takes to teach a new concept to a dog, especially when it involves making yourself more interesting than everything else in the environment. You don't have to do this forever.... just however long it takes to teach your dog how to stay with you. it can take as little as days, to weeks, and even months to leash train your dog. If you want results, it takes time and a ton of patience. This is also a great way to bond and build trust with your dog.
these comments are all wrong. this training method is impractical. the dog should never lead the leash, you want to be the leader not the dog. these new modern methods on approaching the dog is also, why they are being euthanized because humans want to treat dogs like humans
You should not get a dog if you do not have time to train properly. No half ass in between training. If you want a fully obedient dog, you need time.
Absolutely love this video I have a large staffy x who pulls a bit and is out of control with excitement when she comes across other people and dogs. She's very friendly but I would like to take her to the dog beach without her running away and being uncontrollable. I'm definitely trying this technique

Honestly guy...you're a super entertaining fella. But all the dogs you work with are weak low energy omega dogs...You have some great strategies and you're good with dogs but there a large population of people out there that have dogs that will not respond to your "brand of training." The fact that there's so many people coming on your comments and saying your methods don't work says a lot...I think you're misleading a lot of people into thinking that you have some magic "more humane" way of teaching dogs.

There’s no reason you would ever need to use anything inhumane on something you love or even care for for that matter. If you love your dog you show it love. Dogs turn out like their owners more often than not anyway, add a few nutty quirks in there. Ha! He looks like my dog Remi (in my picture) She's extremely high energy 4.5 years... I adopted her from the shelter at 6 months, she was street enchant (hell on wheels). I like to work focus training, then a follow me, reward as she's walking with a loose leash. I change direction, and make it fun, I also stay calm and do not hold the leash with tension on my end. I walk her three times a day, 1 to 2 miles a day. What works is getting the dogs out into new environments every day, and working the cues in high distractions. I love this guy. My dog pulls me off my feet and since she is the same breed as Jacob, this really helps.
Love this my trainer told me to quit treating my dog. His behavior went way down. He's getting treated at home and behaving better now. I'm training him on competitive obedience all with treats before our class starts. I'm setting him up to succeed.

Thank you so much for this video. My small dog is a nightmare on walks - but only if we see any other people or dogs. (lol) I think I am on the right track but this video showed me that I need to be moving slower with the training because my dog is a little bit "gifted" with extra attention to things that are none of his business.
I always appreciate watching your videos because of your reminders that it's OK to take a few steps backward if necessary, if not achieving the desired results. The last year with my little terror has been filled with failed attempts at different tasks and I so appreciate the reminders that it's OK, just take a few steps back and try again. You have helped me SO much to be patient and accept that it's fine that we're not as successful as I would like. We go back to the drawing board frequently but we never stop trying!

We went to training and all BUT I JUST DID THIS TECHNIQUE LIKE 15 MINUTES AGO AND IT WORKED!!! The first time it worked. Im so happy. I was getting so frustrated and sad because walking her was just not for pleasure anymore. And i actually liked it this time. I counted 3 times where she was pulling a little bit and as soon as I called her name she came back and walked nicely. Thank you so much. I dont know why all the other stuff didnt work (maybe because of the chicken tbh hahaha)

The thing is i watch people like beckman who do do treats and stuff but also corrections and his work perfectly... and so does this it seems. It's tough figuring out what to do but I think both are needed in different circumstances.
