Kohli-shastri era is not the best. Few players said that we cannot reach Kohli and shastri to convey things. Kohli and shastri jelled well, but not all... ajinkya rahane led the team in Australia after humiliating loss in 1st test. It's true that Anil kumble was forced to retire as coach...lot many things happens inside that we don't know. Team India means IND winning in eng with zaheer, rp singh,Sachin, Raina, yuvraaj that is the team, they used to paly with purpose

Exactly..kohli was too blind in his power, I respect him as a player, but he doesn't have leadership qualities- I have read reports where youngsters in the team were afraid of kohli and his rules - and the strict emphasis on YoYo test for place in the team -- put a lot of pressure on players to up their fitness and many got injured in the process, not everyone is as gifted as kohli when it comes to understanding his body and getting proper fitness regimes

Even MSD in his early days as a captain wanted everyone to give their best in the field by working out to improve their skills. I think u don't understand how important it is and probably have the wrong idea about the word 'fitness'. It's not just about working out in the gym and 6 packs, abs etc. It's about being able to bat, bowl or field for an entire day or days (Test match). Some ppl troll Rohit about his fitness but he never really gets cramped, he can bat for 20-30 overs even after fielding for 50 overs even at his age. I can give u an example of a match where Shubhman Gill got cramps or maybe something to do with his hamstring, at this age. That's the difference. India wasn't winning overseas test series, our fast bowling unit wasn't up to the mark. So Virat pressed this issue and wanted good fast bowlers even for the next generation. And then he produced the results. We hav won the 2 BGTs in Australia. We were ahead by 2-1 in SA before Virat got some back issues and rested for that game & KL captained the side and India unfortunately couldn't win that match. Even a draw would hav ensured our first victory in SA but instead ended up a draw. The same 2-1 happened in England as well before the last game was postponed due to COVID and then BCCI wanted to focus on the IPL. So that match was played maybe after 1½ year later and ended up in a draw 2-2. Had that final match been played as per schedule India probably wud hav won the series bkz we had the momentum then. Thought while the bowling got better, a lot of our batters struggled in SA & England as compared to Australia and that's the reason we are yet to win in SA & England.

Coaching is more about man management than teaching cricketing skills. It's about managing egos and relationships of board, players & all. One needs to be street smart, good communicator. A great player cannot be a great coach necessarily. It requires a different skill set altogether. Shastri was not great like kumble but he had all the qualities of a fantastic coach.
